So whatever nods to modernity they’ve done worked on me - I bet you feel like a Quake kid having your hobby invaded by CoD dudebros here lol. Not at all. Everyone gets to enjoy their own hobby however they like, doesn't affect the way I think about it myself or enjoy it myself. I got my first white dwarf during the RT days I think, played through 2nd ed with mates from school, then 3rd Ed was like 6th Form and basically drifted off for Uni before 4th ed. Then came back once I actually had money again around 2016-17 when they started doing Necromunda and Blood Bowl again. As I always preferred Specialist Games to the core games. Then the new Phoenix Lords and new Sisters started coming out and I've picked them up, but still not actually played a game. The new rules seem very "eh". Uni days was more D&D/other RPGs/bits of historical gaming as it's cheap. Most of the Imperial Agents love I have just comes from leafing through the old rulebooks, which had loads of John Blanche illustrations for Inquisitors, Tech Priests, Sisters, Imperial Nobles, Navigators etc. None of which had models of most of the time I seriously played. So it was just staring at the artwork and letting my imagination run (well plus some of the old novels/short stories), rather than the miniatures. But they also had like a half-whole dozen artists with their own styles, doing their own weird stuff, and importantly paintings of things that didn't have miniatures. I don't get the same tingle from the new books though. They've got an in house illustration style, so most the art looks the same. Like technically good, but there's no expression to it. For the most part they will only do an illustration of something you can buy now. Which is "fucking boring." 2nd Ed codices used to have rules for miniatures they never actually made, I miss those days. Otherwise everything in my imagination would have goblin green bases...

@drakesmoke zagibuIsopropyl alcohol worked a treat and stripped the scenery (plus a couple of other old Skaven models), which has now been primed correctly Cheers 👍

I played the Speed Freeks beta, it was surprisingly fun. Think orky Mario Kart, but on an open map and with LOADSA DAKKA.

Spent so much time on these flying models and the negative hype on the flight stands was so right.
I think I’ve fucked them.
I’ve also bought a batch of transfers off eBay since the combat patrols don’t come with the transfers for the better chapter, and compared to the Leviathan one they are horrible - it is like they set immobile immediately with no sliding time to position them.
Honestly doing my box in these models should have been finished two days ago

Pin them with paperclips they say
Who has paperclips in their house in 2024
And if I did I’m quite sure I’ve probably ruined the integrity of the stands and models and will probably break everything trying
Sorry I’ve finished now!

Right I’ve used poly but am taking the weight with blue tack.
Last night I stupidly followed a video from a bloke that suggested a strip of masking tape would do the same job - it didn’t.
I’m not touching them until tomorrow. I will stop ‘contributing’ now lol.

I absolutely will not use those curved flying stands.
3mm x 60mm steel rod painted black. Much better.
Although, for my SoB Seraphim I chopped up a piece of terrain and glued ruined pillars and wall pieces to their bases then glued a part of the Seraphim (edge of the wing or the side of a leg or a foot) to those terrain fragments. It looked ok, but was a bit of a long winded pain in the arse to avoid the flying stands lol. I'd just use the steel rods if I had to do it over again.
For vehicles I tend to use 2 or 3 6mm diameter clear acrylic rods and attach them to a proper (appropriately sized) base. Gives them much more stability. I first did this after literally all of my Necron Doomsday and Ghost Ark stands snapped - because they're FUCKING USELESS.

I think they look quite good - all it would take to make them work IMO would be a plug end and then actually going in a hole, push fit style.

I don't think they look bad, they're just more trouble than they're worth - terrible to attach to the mini and the plastic is extremely brittle and prone to snapping at the thinnest part.
On more than one occasion I've seen folks turn up to a shop to play a game and the flight stands have snapped. You'll often find grounded Inceptors/Suppressors lying prone on their bases facing the sky as they're moved around the board lol

I wouldn't mind getting some of those smoke trails for jump packs, but I haven't seen any I really like the look of yet. What would be ideal for the look I'd want would be a clear resin version that I could spray the end that connects to the pack in orange/blue or whatever colour you paint jump jets with these days.
Fuck, I need to get a 3D printer and learn how to model my own stuff.

Yeah I’ve never been keen on smoke.
I need to sort this as I’ve sort of gone big on flyers. I think the Rocketeer planted some sort of subliminal jet pack love in the lizard brain when I was a child, and I’ve got these Inceptors, some jump pack intercessors, and 20 flyers for the sisters too.
Does anybody know what sort of thickness in mm is best for pinning stuff like this. I’d like to try using the existing stands and pinning them. I note GS World do brass pins which I’ll try if better. Just really pissed off as I wanted these models finishing during my week off - it was like a target and I’ve put so much work into painting them. I think they are cursed to be honest, I tried posting a WIP on them here the other day and the image host site died!

For pinning stuff on troops I literally just buy a box of assorted size paper clips and have a really cheap wire cutter on hand (you can use side cutters, but don't use your good ones as you'll blunt them pretty fast!). If you don't have one already buy a super cheapo modelling drill from Amazon for less than a tenner with a decent assortment of bits (ideally 0.5 mm to 3 mm).
I tend to save brass rod for stuff like resin (although if you're pinning something really heavy steel rod is much stronger, but more difficult to cut to size - ideally then you'd need a proper set of lever action cutters for thicker steel rod). Brass is generally fine though, unless you're pinning the arms on a Forgeworld Warlord Titan or something!

North East Open is once again here and once again I've spent the last couple of days frantically getting models ready.
I probably should have checked I actually had some of the models before I submitted the list.

Lol. I’ve calmed down now. I’m under more stress because my band has got our first gig tomorrow in a long time, and it’s hard work and I get stage fright. Generally my head is fooked the day of it but it’s hit me today this time. Probably because I’ve not been at work. Working on the minis should have been my zen remedy but it FUCKING WASNT BECAUSE OF THISE WANKSTAIN STANDS AND THE GLUE HAS MADE THE BACK OF MY PAINSTAKINGLY PAINTED MODELS ALL SHIT
Ahem 😂

By the Emperor, it appears to have worked. I followed this: stormsgatecreations.com/2019/02/17/pinning-primaris-inceptors-to-flight-stands/Although IMO it was off in terms of length of pin - I went with over a cm, and also went about 5mm into the stand rather than the 2 suggested. I’ve thrown so much stuff at these that the backs are a bit of a mess. I will NOT be trying anything else on my future models and will go straight to this pinning technique. Sadly I won’t have chance to finish the basing etc today. I’m going to try to get a Chaplain done by Monday night and will then take proper pics of everything.

It's been a while since I did some official Warhammer scenery, this was a refreshing change. There's still another 3 bits to do from the Skaventide box, so I might switch to quicker methods. I think those are worth the effort. They are probably the best models in the box! I popped into the Blackpool Warhammer whilst we were up there and came out with a couple of paint pots. They had Skaventide out. I was shocked at how tiny the basic rats are!
