I’ve read stuff about this and I believe it was all around the 5th Edition which I wasn’t there for. I came in at 2nd edition and had dropped out before 3rd - until I got the last AoS edition my sole connection to WH was occasionally flicking through White Dwarf when I was in WH Smiths.
So maybe I’m just not that emotionally invested and like blue*
Plus, they are the chapter everybody aspires to be and invented the codex Astartes and Reboot has the Emperor’s Sword so is the best and everything

Yeah I don't really hate Ultras, I just think there are much more interesting chapters and GW is featuring Ultras too often in their stuff.
Personally, I am a traitor at heart, so any loyalist fools rooting for the corpse on the throne can suck it anyway.

Wasn't Ward coming in swinging, stating as canon that Smurfs were the bestest at everything, and nothing to do with being his preferred chapter ?
Then angry nerds cast REASON, and asked why all these various chapters, each of variation and specialisation ? And Ward said no. Anger increased, turning to hate. And hence thereafter the lore has softened back to great logistics and planning, allowing their generalisation to seem amazing. The everymen of the Astartes.
I care not. I'm too busy dodging stares in Hobbycraft purusing dress making pins and rose tinted things to make trench base.

I mean, Crimson Fists are Ultramarines + a crimson fist, which is clearly better than Ultramarines without a crimson fist.

Forgive the creased bedding backdrop please. Finally got what I thought would be the Saturday treats fully delivered this morning - half the delivery wasn’t done over the weekend as DHL are the courier for Element orders containing rattle cans. Anyway here’s the consolidated madness! There’s obviously more Sisters stuff I want, especially walkers, but I’m not going to add to this until I’ve painted some - honestly. And just for fun, here’s the old, fat, awesome discontinued Combat Patrol vs the new, skinny, slightly miserly new one!

It’s still a good set, but they seem to have a policy of removing vehicles from the relaunches, albeit not consistently. Some like Tau and GS Cults appear to be getting small vehicles instead of big - I don’t know in what world a rhino is a big vehicle though!

I hate building.
Spent hours tonight trying to get my Redemptor dreadnought done.
Looking into it, it is a bit of a notorious kit.
Slotted arm joints that don’t swivel without filing them down.
A power fist that just keeps popping off every time I touch the thing.
The arm for the same power fist, which is supposed to have articulation, is in fact articulated to the point of impotence - it just hangs.
Shoulder armour plates that won’t stay on and are only connected by a tab - which is now deformed by glue.
I was planning on swapping the weapons in and out on this thing and this is possible, but as it basically falls apart when I look at it I don’t know whether I need to f*ck that off and just make it as secure as possible.
It’s still not finished and I reckon the priming weather will turn tomorrow knowing my luck, it’s felt like it wants to thunderstorm all day over here.
I just wanna paint stuff! Give me push fit monopose any day.

Give me push fit monopose any day. DO NOT WISH FOR THIS. THEY ARE HORRID. Would love it if there was a non-sweatshop market for building minis, I'd be first in line (would prime too!)

Well I stayed up way too late (combo of being determined to finish it and then getting suckered by the XBox) and I’m feeling beyond f*cked as a result, but I think I finished the model and should be able to prime it today.
5 Intecessors to round out the Dark Angels Combat patrol, which I’ve actually built - but am unhappy with as I’ve knackered my pouch and holster placement.
Luckily I have fifteen more in various boxes so I’ll build 5 of them instead and be more careful. Even these are a PITA!
Painting wise I think I am now going to make a push on finishing the ‘nids but it’s always good to have a primed ‘queue’ of models. When the ‘Nids are done I need to figure out lighting that cabinet more tidily and magnetising all the bases too, so there’s still loads to do - which is good.
I note that the 40K codex roadmap is now almost done with nothing listed for Autumn/Winter. Secret codex upcoming later in Summer which is reckoned to be Imperial Agents (with possibly Deathwatch rolled in) or Emperor’s Children. Interesting that there is nothing listed beyond this, and wonder if this means there really will be a break due to a shift to AoS or what ever. I guess historically the last codex will release about a month before the edition finishes!

I always loved building more than painting. I remember when the posable Khorne Berserkers were new, that was one of the best weeks in my life.

So at the risk of reaching ridiculous Auspex Tactics levels of posting, here is one on the new spray stick. Inb4 just use a ruler or piece of timber or old mop handle - I know lol. But this really is an elegant solution. Firstly an improvement is that handle is central. On the old model, it was at the end, which made for an awkward spray angle and meant that over time on mine, the weight degraded the joint until the handle came off. No such problems here: Best of all, it pivots. So you can do all faces from the same angle, turning the surface as you go: I don’t know why GW persist with this idea of suspending your models on these tools with elastic bands, as you can see I’ve gone for tried and tested blue tack. That aside, I think this design is fantastic. Time will tell how it holds up from a quality perspective. Update: just sprayed him - that was great and much easier than either the old design or a ruler. Zero spray paint on my hands too which I think is actually a first!

So I have been painting up a few odd bits and bobs for Deth Wizards, the new game from Uncle Atom and Vince Venturella - mostly some fancy undead lords and a few zombies, and I'm plodding away at some revenant-style armoured undead which I'm sure I'll finish this weekend when the temperature drops enough to stop my paint evaporating. I played a game last week and it was a lot of fun, and I'm playing again this evening.
I seem to have run out of steam on my Greenskins army after finishing up the last batch and basing everything - 18 built but unprimed Orc archers are staring at me, everything else for the project is still on sprues or in boxes (or on sprues in boxes). I have enough for an army built and painted already, which has sapped my desire to finish this off / do much more with it. I'm not sure I'll even play my first game of Old World in the next 6 months anyway, so there's that as well.
So what have I gone and done, having stalled out on this project? Well, pre-order the Warlord Epic scale Hannibal boxed set and a bunch of 15mm terrain of course! I am my own worse enemy. I've never played Hail Caesar, I've never painted 13.5 / 15mm scale and I'm not sure anyone I know will want to play should I finish up both armies in the box - so what could possibly go wrong?

ForkHandles I had the same thing with the Tyranids - got it to about 90% and just hit a brick wall. Painting something else IS the answer in my experience. I’ve now picked up the enthusiasm to finish the Tyranids and as of last night am a third way through my Tervigon, with a new wraith can and…something else…in the post. You’ll get the itch again. I think it’s great you actually play the games, I sure as hell don’t, but I think collecting/building/painting is a reward in itself too.

ForkHandles I bought the hard copy book for Reign in Hell when they first launched Snarling Badger Studios and only played a couple of games (I did enjoy it though!). Keep meaning to get the solo play rules. I'll probably have a gander on DriveThruRPG tonight.

Errrm…yes.
Ordered a large oval base from an eBay seller (lost the Tervigon base).
Seller gave the option to magnetize and it has printed magnet, erm, receptacles on the bottom.
They don’t glue the magnets in! I have a stack of magnets and just thought why not for ease, could have saved myself the money on a bog standard one.
Also, comparing it to the Tyranofex I have which is the same base, the tolerances are off - it’s something like half a mil smaller all round. As a consequence of all this, I will now protect my bases like Bilbo Baggins and his f*cking ring.
The tournaments I will never play at will no doubt block me from using this unit now!

Here is a little painting bit of news you might find interesting. If you have ever dabbled in Gundam modelling you could be aware of paint pens by Mr Hobby. They are pretty cool, I got some for my boy to use on his robots. But the colours can be limited and they are expensive in sets. AK have just announced a range of their Real Colour paint in paint pens. As usual the bumf promises the world, but I recking they could be very useful in detail painting where a brush is a PITA. Here is the link to the bumf: ak-masters.com/app/pdf/AK_REAL_COLORS_MARKERS_DOSSIER_DIGIEN.pdf

My Primaris Outriders got delivered yesterday, and I am baffled by how large the bases are. The extra width on them might come in handy though, as I'm considering posing one in such a way that his power sword is angled down and gouging the floor. EDIT: Bit like Clu in Legacy.

Just ordered this off Etsy, for just under 12 quid. Not sure if he'll be my Chapter Master yet, but certainly a named character. It's pretty much ideal, as I've been leaning in the direction of a stylised heart as a chapter symbol, so I'll paint those up like bits of sapphire, and it's got feathers on the pauldron for the Raven Guard descended aspect as well, not to mention the jump pack fitting my theme.
As for the weapon in the left hand, that it's holding a piece of heart shaped crystal ties in nicely with something I've been mulling for their background as well. Will probably swap the bolt pistol for a plasma weapon, and add a cloak. Possibly a head swap, as I'd like to try modelling some longer hair with Green Stuff.
And the fact that rather than a seperate head, it comes with two body pieces means I can flog one of them to a mate who has just started a BA army.
There is a whole range of them, designed as Blood Angels. I could probably file off a few of the IX Legion bits from a few others.

Had two games of Deth Wizards last night, was good fun but I failed miserably to take any photos. It's got pretty robust mechanics but we did find a bit of a cheat button with one of the spells being pretty powerful, so we've house ruled it to nerf it somewhat.
I've been watching vids on how to paint the Warlords Hannibal minis - think I'll be fine with my usual zenthithal and speedpaint combo and the 3 feet rule, it's just the volume of minis that could be interesting! I'm getting a random Epic sprue with the July Wargames Illustrated magazine so I'll have a practice before the giant box arrives at the end of the month which I'll show off here once it's painted.

Long delivery times on some of the stuff I ordered from Etsy.
While the Lazarus model above is estimated for next week, a collection of bits including winged backpacks and cloaks is estimated for anywhere from the 10th to 29th of July, while a set of boltgun silencers is estimated for 10th to 29th of August.

I’d imagine it’s all essentially print to order isn’t it? If they are one man bands maybe the sellers wait until there is a big enough batch to make it economical - but I don’t really understand printing.
