I really don't get how when you're on your 7th iteration of basically the same game you can fuck up the basics? Like surely you just build on what works...? Somehow DICE take two steps backwards for every step forward.
It's like they are starting from scratch each time even though it's the same franchise, on the same engine with the same gameplay.
Really bizarre how they keep fucking it going right back to BF4.

I put 4-5 hours into it today. Went from thinking it was a bit meh, to not liking it at all to absolutely loving it. Its janky af, kind of expected for an old build and I really hope they've fixed a lot of the issues come release. The camera as a tank gunner had me feeling like I had parkinsons - shakes all over the place and definitely needs sorting out. Took me a while to get used to the gunplay but settled nicely into the LMG with the mid range scope. Deals pretty well with vehicles with the AP rounds too. I'm liking how you can run any loadout too, rather than the pre defined roles of previous BF's. I'm still seeing people reviving, dropping ammo, repairing etc and I like the flexibility of it. Love changing weapon mods on the fly too, great addition. Had some suitably epic "only in battlefield" moments already. Racing towards the rocket capture point in a tank, fired at some enemies on the tower just as a jeep came flying up the tunnel ramp which got blown up by my tank round, as the rocket started to launch had me grinning like a kid full of sugar

Ha! Yes the tank gunner view is a touch 'bumpy'.

razerWith regards to the "old build" bit and the amount of jank in the demo. As per my above post, the concept of "old build" seems weird when it's the 4th or 5th BF game on an engine DICE themselves created. I've never been involved with game development but in my head at least when you have had as much experience as DICE have had with BF (and all the learnings from previous buggy launches) I find it mind boggling that the open beta 4 weeks before launch is so unpolished.

I e definitely had a few moments of Battlefield magic that I haven't really felt in the last couple but Jesus it needs some work.

I just wish there was another mode in the beta as I never play conquest. One rush map would have been a welcome addition as I'm trying to show a mate who is new to the series that the vehicles don't always play a big a part of things and the game can be more focussed on a smaller map.

I've stuck with it, and the Helos are now great fun to me. Definitely use a controller and prepare to crash quite a bit. My time played is over 5 hours now and I am now exclusively playing vehicles.

Oh I'm not disagreeing there tbh. It's disappointing that there are so many broken/missing things a month out from release. But for me the fun is there despite this. I've been a bit bored of gaming recently, got back into Destiny 2 and enjoying it but nothing else has grabbed my attention. Maybe I'm just getting old (just turned 49) but playing with a mate had us both laughing at various things, both good and bad. I've got it pre ordered for £35 and I think I've seen enough to know I'll get my moneys worth.

Rush in BC2 was probably my favourite multiplayer thing ever. Would love to see it return properly.

Great map but my perfection was probably Arica harbour. My god that was incredible. Most of the bc2 maps worked so well in rush. Bf3 still had some classic rush maps like damavand peak.

Valparasio and Isla Inocentes were both fantastic rush maps from BC2. I also quite enjoyed Seine Crossing in BF3 for Rush.
I really wanted to like BF:2042 but it just feels underwhelming in every regard. Was really excited to get it but the beta put me from a must have to a 'wait a few weeks and see if they fix it'.
I don't feel confident about the game though. I miss having dedicated classes as I enjoyed playing medic and engineer and now with all the lines blurred between classes they seem more like they're designed for solo players. I can also see them making fancy classes which we have to pay for if you want them. Which would be criminal in a £50 game.
I Don't think I'm going to buy it but I'll certainly 'rent' it with EA Pro

Played more of this tonight, had some good rounds, just kind of running round essentially but the greater player counts makes a big difference. Also finding it quite easy to land headshots for some reason. Is auto aim quite strong?

Just spent a couple of hours with it. It's alright, but not for me. Far too chaotic- you run, you get the drop on someone, someone gets the drop on you, back to the spawn menu. Had one great moment where I was finally allowed to drive a tank and roamed around the periphery of a capture point for 15 minutes launching shells at enemies, and then it got blown up, and I was back to running and gunning.
It's weird coming to this from something like Apex where everything is readable. Might be better if not playing with randoms, but I miss all the communication stuff.

My thoughts exactly. Christ I’ve loved 3 or 4 iterations of BF (especially BC2 and BF3 rush or BF1grand operations) but no chance I’m stepping into this one. Have they fucked up or have we moved on?

Not really feeling it to be honest. Surprised at how lost I felt with it, despite playing a fair few battlefields in my time. Felt pretty similar to Godwhacker a couple posts up. I don’t know what it is, whether the physics feel light and airy or there just seemingly no structure to the map/game mode but it just felt a bit odd. Don’t know why that would be really.
Only played a couple Of rounds though.

It's too big and too random. Chaotic is probably the best way to describe it. It's crying out for more focus which is why I hope they've put some effort into rush.

Need a bit more time on this as first impressions are mixed - by far the worst bit is the UI, it appears to have been designed by a toddler.

Anyone else trying it on PC here? I've had a bit of fun out of it, but the performance really is surprisingly poor.

Not knowing who is your team mate and who is the enemy when you die is also irritating it show how many metres team mates are away from reviving you.

Anyone else trying it on PC here? I've had a bit of fun out of it, but the performance really is surprisingly poor. I've been playing on PC and the performance doesn't match up with how it looks, in my opinion. Some games can be a 'steady' 60-90 FPS with occasional drops to 55 and then the next game can be a stuttering mess. I'm not going to hold it against it too much as it could be resolved when the game actually releases and nvidia release drivers for it. Playing mostly at Ultra with 1 or 2 settings turned down to high and medium. Can't remember which off the top of my head but I think post processing was the one I switched to high. For reference my system is a i7 9700k, 16GB RAM, RTX3090 and playing at 3840x1600
