I found I died too quickly in the more recent BF games, especially 1. BF is at its best when the game is a bit slower and the average life expectancy is longer as it allows for more interesting things to happen rather than endless 1 on 1s or getting shot at by a million snipers or running into a hundred grenades. I just hope they don't fuck up the 2 BC2 maps as they're the ones I'm most interested in

BC2 maps with 128 players sounds like hell.

Surely they won't actually "support" that, right? I recall seeing something like each map having different player limits or something.
Rush with any more than 32 players is terrible already, and it's already pushing tolerability at that point too. 32 people fighting over a single room isn't usually a fun time.

I'm hoping the increase in scale will make it feel a bit less chaotic to me. I've always been pretty decent at these games, they've just completely failed to hold my interest long-term since BC2. I put hundreds of hours into 2/2142/BC2 and about 30 at most into any of them since. It just gets so tiring to play when it's this relentless clusterfuck instead of a battle that ebbs and flows. Maps are huge. I just spent a match going between just two points, never seeing any of the rest. Plenty of time and space to set yourself up and breathe

I don't think making the maps bigger is necessarily the solution, especially if there are natural choke points such as flags/mcoms etc.
In a game like BC2 you survived for longer due to a mixture of being able to take more bullets and the maps being incredibly well designed for the player counts. As Duffking said, even going up to 32 players from 24 could slightly spoil that balance on some maps, I dread to think how they'll be able to do it for 128.
Still, I'm looking forward to giving it a go, and the big player count should make it an interesting spectacle at least.

Yeah it's not necessarily a size thing (though obviously if a map is tiny it's hard to avoid spam). More a chokepoint thing. Like if you look at something like Amiens in BF1 and Mashtuur City in BF2, they're similar layouts, but in Mashtuur they put the flags in courtyards and had a few entrances to those courtyards, so fighting happens between points etc.
In Amiens, they put the flags in the middle of the chokepoints in the city instead of the spaces they open out into, so it just degenerates into this spam.

Played 2 rounds over lunchtime today. Admittedly, I was playing on X1X and it is a beta so maybe that influenced things a bit but I thought it was pretty mediocre. Weapons feel weak, map is pretty bland, both teams look the same, trying to revive usually results in you taking the dying man's gun instead of helping him, the medic is a granny etc...
However, I didn't run into any grenade spam or endless camping snipers so that's positive and the robot dog companion is cool.

If it is then we'll have to organise a game 😀

I've got no idea what Xbox's you're talking about given their stupid naming convention but it's only crossplay across current gens.

I'm quite enjoying it. It's very reminiscent of Battlefield 4, which was probably the last Battlefield I genuinely enjoyed.
Looks quite tasty on Series X as well, performance is solid also.
Loaded with visual glitches and the HUD is a mess, objective icons are so small I can't even tell what letter they are.
But yeah, not bad.

I'm pretty gutted with this, it just isn't fun to play. Vehicles are a nightmare, but worse the gunplay is so flimsy.
The hud is cluttered, the skins look the same and the specialist system is confusing and a bit naff.
Glad I didn't preorder, been since 2016 since I really loved a battlefield. It was one of my favourite series too.

Servers keep falling over, which is not ideal. Quite enjoyed the time though.
Hud is busy, but sure I'll get used to it. Not having unlocked weapon mods is a nightmare though. A silencer and some sights would help.

It's okay, but I can't see it attracting anyone who isn't a BF fan and putting off alot of the hardcore.
The annoyances for alot of people in the past have been visibility or being able to see people.. Then seemingly being shot from nowhere leading to frustration. Then just being able to understand the flow of the game and what's going on at a quick glance. The core game has always been brilliant. Just those minor things led to so much frustration.
With this its like they've doubled down on everything that frustrates people and created more issues. Woefully complex hud and menus, tiny fonts so you've no idea what objective is what. Incredibly hard to see enemies (impossible to see from the air) The gunplay can feel snappy after some tinkering (reduce dead zone to 0 and increase sensitivity) but hitting enemies doesn't feel or even sound satisfying.
I don't understand DICE, rather than a perfection of the formula, it feels a bit of a mess. No sense of flow, no sense of those last minute wins capturing a point.. I'll push on, but I'm not convinced.

I'm a bit puzzled by some of the choices, 4 man squads again is a PITA and the HUD is just so damn busy. I know this is an obviously old fork of the current build but some of the stuff is bizarre, I thought I was messing up trying to res people as I didn't notice the teeny-tiny button that appeared and eventually did so I just press square (on PS5) when near a downed person rather than see if it's actually there. Spotting is also very finicky too, it's like they've got it set for PC using a mouse and didn't pay much attention to using a controller. I expected glitchiness but some of the weird stuff that crops up you'd think would have been fixed even in a beta build. The UI is fucking dreadful too, the selecting of kits/modifying things is so damn clunky, it has to be better than what it is now. Also has anyone managed to get a lock on with a portable AA launcher? I never got a lock no matter how often I tried.
Edit : next game I try and AA launcher locks on to things now!

Not having unlocked weapon mods is a nightmare though. A silencer and some sights would help. If you bring up the 'plus system' with left bumper you can customise the weapons a bit and there is a scope/sight you can choose. Also silencers are available for all weapons apart from the assault type weapons bizarrely (and shotgun obvs).

I'm hoping decent maps and modes on launch will allow it to show more potential. The amount of marketing behind this and with Christmas coming up/EA, means they won't delay it any further.
Honestly I reckon they should do a Halo and give it another 6 months to rework things. It isn't overly buggy, its the design decisions that are WTF.
I really miss the old Battlefield days, stunned that DICE have managed to screw things up yet again.

I have to say that I enjoyed what I got to play. I set aside a good few hours yesterday to give it a good shot but unfortunately it shut down my series x on a number of occasions out of the blue. It also caused awful issues with xbox party chat too for some weird reason which resulted in my friend and I not even being able to talk over xbox unless we rebooted the game, set up party chat and only then start up the game.
I found after a few hours of playing that I got to grips with the mechanics and was enjoying it, knowing that the issues 'should' be resolved at launch.

Had a go last night and thought that it was decent. Best thing is… it feels like Battlefield. BF4 vibes aplenty and a lot of fun to be had!
The menus could do with a user review (not massively intuitive at all) & the HUD needs to be clearer but other than that I think that it’s looking great.

People need to calm down a bit. There are issues, and it’s clear DICE have been having development issues hence the delay, but people are so quick to judge. It’s one map, and it’s a buggy and (hopefully) old build. It took me a while to grasp some of the idiosyncrasies. It took five games to work out how to change my load out for example. I will definitely need to tweak helicopter controls too. With specialists I would like to see the entire ten before casting judgement I want to access land mines and claymores and I’m guessing a specialist or two has them. I also want to see the progression system. It looks great, the weapons seem fine to me. It took me time to a) find things like LMGs and Snipers and b) Apply sights and grips to make them usable for me. I await the full product now before deciding whether this is a hit or a miss but I think it will give me that BF feeling.

It took me a while to adjust yesterday, I was a little underwhelmed at first and it took me a couple hours before I took any enjoyment from it which was a bit worrying. I went back on it today and it sort of clicked straight away and felt more battlefieldy.. I really don't like the operators, I can't see any reason for them other than paid for seasonal content. Not feeling the calling in of the vehicles, rangers as I don't think it adds anything to the gameplay. I hate the interface and the sound just feels off even on wartapes with my headphones on. Ammo is an issue, the free firing launcher needs buffing imo.
Still itching to get back on though...

I've not managed to call in a vehicle yet. Does that even work?
Agreed on the operators, but can see how some people might enjoy that side of it. I like that you can mix and match traits and weapons. Medic with AA, sorted.

I'm sure lots will be improved in the final release but I must say I'm really looking forward to the Portal side of things than the main game. Assuming El Alamein hasn't been cocked up I'll probably be playing that a lot.

Had another couple of hours, I'm enjoying a lot now however I hope the faults are ironed out, apparently it's an old build that streamers played behind closed doors a couple of months ago(hope this is true)
No grenade icons so you have no idea if you are near one or it's about to go off. It needs a compass on the screen and not just when looking down your sights. Not able to request ammo, health or even thank team mates for reviving seems an odd oversight. I hope the quickness of respawning is not as fast in the full game, it's pretty much instant at the moment. The spawn points are really bad when you just drop on your objective often getting me killed instantly or putting me behind the enemy for a cheap kill. Something more obvious to differentiate friend or foe as it's sometimes difficult to tell at first glance. The massive bar that drops down when you capture or lose an objective is annoying.
