The last time I played it was a ton of people at base controlling drones, snipers all lined up never moving and a stealth chopper doing circles and people refusing to attempt to shoot it down. Back in BC2 this would be the point where AcidSnake would be in there knifing them for their tags!! I don't recall if that mechanic continued into later games? It exists still but there's less focus on it as the series progressed from V onwards and the animations used clearly ape what was brought in for the Modern Warfare reboot rather than the 1st person viewpoint that felt really brutal and more specifically much more personal.

Bring back blaring out music from vehicles, still one reason I would probably say Battlefield: Vietnam is my favourite Battlefield. Also dangling vehicles under choppers like playing a full 3D version of Thrust while VC/NVA players tried to kill you, fun times. The remix of White Rabbit for the menu was fantastic.
This game will forever remind me of PeejLAN.

I'm still looking for the video footage from the time we invaded their base during StagLAN, it's probably gone forever but it was so damn good.

Too bad they turned the servers off for BC2 last year. We still had a few games but it just wasn't the same. The only players left were hardocre players who could angle their tank cannon to snipe the objectives from the other side of the map. I calculated time spent on the game by the leaderboards and there were some people who had logged 3 hours on average a day...since launch! As for 2042, I gave it a go but it was clearly a lot of parts that weren't working together as well as they should. And some rules that were changed since way back when which make the game less fun. Such as being unable to spawn on teammates bacause they are "in combat". Also, they need to settle down with freight containers everywhere and cargo ship maps...

The last time I truly had fun with Battlefield was 4. Once it got fixed I put an inordinate amount of hours into it. The best was either that or BC2 I thought. I didn’t really enjoy any of the past games and whatever the last one was, which I bought a Series X at launch for, was terrible. It sacrificed almost everything that was great from previous entries.
I am very glad the operatives are going. A quality of life thing would also be to limit snipers. There should also be vehicle training modes and the aircraft should handle like Ace Combat instead of whatever that was.
As it stands I don’t see it as a viable alternative to CoD so there is a lot of catching up to do.

Last CoD I bought was MW19, I've not really enjoyed much of them since. Quite enjoyed DMZ for a while but I'm just not a CoD player anymore, it's certainly no longer the game that's anything close to its roots.
2042, even with its many faults, you could still see it was a Battlefield.
Don't get that Icelandic composer back whatever they do, she's had a lot of success in TV and movies but what she did to the theme was unforgivable!

Re: CoD: probably sounds silly but I genuinely stopped playing it because of the current menu layout and separate launchers for the PC version. I use to happily dabble in a bit of WZ, enjoyed the DMZ at launch, and would usually see out the SP campaign, but it's just such a ball ache to move between any of these modes now that I eventually just sacked the whole thing off. BF2042 is such a weird one. Really was a travesty at times, though I did feel by the final few seasons they had at least got the game into a fairly enjoyable state. Think I ended up clocking about 300+ hours overall, finishing the BPs for all seasons (and only ever paying for the first, then using earned currency for subsequent ones). Feel like they'll need to pull something special out if they're hoping to get any pre-orders this time, though

I guess it also didn't help that they charged full boxed price for a multiplayer only game which doesn't fly well these days.

That sounds like everything I want except BC2 levels of destruction - really hope they follow through with it. I miss playing Battlefield with a group of mates and in general really. Had some amazing times on the PC, 360 and PS4 with 1942, BC2 and BF4 respectively.Let Battlefield be Battlefield and stop trying to chase other trends or games. Yeah I think I played with a lot on EG way back in the PS3 days. I don't think I could go back to playing online shooters though. I'm an old man who just wants to press X to jump.

The Battlefield talk had me going back to BFV and BF1 for a few hours yesterday.
I've always stood up for BF2042, and have had a lot of fun with it over the last 3 years but compared to the previous titles it really lacks that quintessential battlefield feeling of being tits-deep in war. BF1 and BFV also look flipping fantastic on Series X. In fact, they look (and importantly for a Battlefield title, SOUND) better than 2042.

Has anyone tried to play BFV on a second Xbox? I can't seem to get it working for my boy on his S. It keeps saying "Trial expired" and won't let him play. Not a problem for BF1/2042. Just V. A quick Google suggests we're not alone, but doesn't offer any fixes.

If the rumours are true, that they are dialling back to their pomp of current day weapons/tech, and the vibe of BF3 and BF4, I will be all in for that.
I'm the same as most of you, COD tickles the shooting itch, but I love playing as a team, hitting objectives and generally having some tactics.
I'm not asking for BF4 reskinned but that era, with a definitive class selection, on the new gen, yes fkin' please.
