Scoreboard implementation delayed to March now. I mean it's difficult not to come the conclusion that the people in charge of development don't know what the fuck they're doing.

The sad thing about the scoreboard is that it is pointless work. The people playing don’t really care about it, and the people clamouring for it won’t come back once it is implemented. They will just complain about how it is ‘wrong’. A waste of dev time when there should be higher priorities.

That dev time is apparently taking them a long time it seems. This is all does feel very ramshackle.

Sadly, it's just a bit balls.
And broken.
That's not really halo's fault.
Hopefully it will get fixed, but a lot of players have gone already.

The "gamers' expectations have changed regarding releasing a game and fixing it later" bit is damning, too.

It really is some proper desperation tactic to blame another game as to why yours was released in an early access state. It's even more stupid when you take into account that Halo was also not released in a great technical state. Bit I guess that's why executives get paid the big bucks; to speak absolutely bollocks.

Give us up to date BC2 without any added bullshit and I’ll be back in the game!

I was so close to buying this. Miss playing a BF game, 4 and 1 were/are fantastic! Can't see how they are going to put this right without a complete rebuild?

its a slightly disingenuous article as the misleading headline leans into the groupthink that EA blame Halo as the reason for the poor launch and reception of 2042. It would better to say Halo was one of a number of factors as to why 2042 was received badly, along with the bugs, the pandemic and the misguided design choices. Writing an article based off the mood of the 2042 subreddit is not very objective really and perpetuates the pile on.

Yeah, taken in isolation it looks like they are talking nonsense, but I think it is reasonable to say that your competition's success was a detriment to your product.
From what I've seen though, it did sound like they weren't acknowledging some of the stupid design choices. Seems like Covid got most of the blame (although the narrative doesn't make much sense, if Halo managed alright).
I still maintain that Battlefield 2042 is mostly fine. It certainly isn't great, but I can log in for an hour two ever so often and have fun. I think the community reaction is, as ever, way too overblown. My gut reaction is to push against that a bit. Hard to deny many of complaints though and the lack of acknowledging them from DICE and EA is a bit of a shame.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the launch of the first season in Summer, but I am not expecting anything to change drastically and that 2042 will probably continue to die.

I think the biggest legitimate complaint is that you can't go around proclaiming yourself to be a live service game when you fall at the first hurdle of what is expected of a live service game. Also calling stuff such as a server browser, scoreboard, VOIP also points to the people in charge not having a clue about their community. It's been a confusing cluster fuck since launch.

True and BFV suffered from the live service push too, with a roadmap of releases constantly never being met and the initial idea of doing releases that were chronological following the war (which should have been great) never materialised.
As much as I liked the thought of ditching map packs, I think a return to that traditional style of release would probably be better. Yes, you risk splitting the community, but BF is (or was) a franchise popular enough that this shouldn't be a big issue. It certainly didn't seem to be for BF1.

Yeah, I seen that. You can tell by his interactions with the devs on social media that they must absolutely fucking hate that guy lol.
Really hope they can pull something out with bug fixes and S1 content. There's definitely a good game in there, would be a shame if it never gets entirely realised.

Update 1.0 rolling out now across all platforms for those interested. This is in prep for the upcoming launch of Season 1 (rumoured to begin June 9):

I still drop in for a few rounds of Conquest now and then. Should hit S rank, shortly, after dropping it at c. lvl 90 for a few months.
They've got a 64-player Conquest mode on the go at the moment which draws in some portal maps (Arica Harbor, Caspian Border etc.). Crazy to see how much better the experience is on them (both performance and gameplay wise).

New Specialist looks to have an obscenely OP anti-vehicle launcher. That'll be fun pairing with a recoiless or C4, to grief the bloody vehicle campers

Yeah it's been months for me too. Will go grab the update later today but a lot will have had to change to make it back to the regular rotation ahead of Destiny.

They need to get this on EA Access/Gamepass. Keen to take a look but don't want to reward them with an actual purchase

The Eurogamer article mentioned that production on the new Battlefield has already begun. Guess that is inevitable and thoughts on what's next probably are kicked around before the current game is even released, but still feels like they are gearing up to just ditch 2042.
That may not be a terrible approach either. I don't think 2042 is as bad as others, but it still isn't a game that I could see anyone wanting to spend more than a few dozen hours in. The complete absence of teamplay and the complete blandness of the maps, weapons and gadgets just doesn't entice me much, even if the moment to moment play is mostly fine. There would need to be a complete rethink on all those accounts (as well as changing how classes and specialists work), which is effectively a new game.
I don't see huge amounts changing with just one new map and a couple new bits and pieces, so season 1 is unlikely to be too exciting. Perhaps when season 2 rolls around it might be worth hoping back into.

Played a couple of matches last night and it definitely felt like a smoother experience gameplay wise. I still think the specialist/load-out selection is a pain in the arse. It just won't commit to muscle memory. I know I'm old, but this is a sure fire sign that this is just a clunky UX.

I think it is ok, but that's about it. I need to try the current state though.
I always bought the games at launch, but won't be now. I probably got my money's worth in playing time as the core game is still entertaining, but do feel I got burned a bit by the glitches and overall 'meh-ness' of it tbh.

Yeah, the cynic in me reads their recent dev chat as desperately trying not to just come right out and state how much of a terrible misstep 128 players has proved to be, whilst basically also confirming that a return to 64 players is where they see future maps and content going. Guess it's a tough one for them, as it was such a headline/flagship feature, but it's been an unmitigated disaster. (As has Hazard Zone, their Tarkov-esque mode which they've also effectively now admitted is totally dead and won't be seeing any further dev time. Another Firestorm, I guess.)
Despite it's many (many!) flaws, I've still managed to sink 150hrs plus into it, and I'm looking forward to trying the new map tomorrow. Looks like tons of verticality mixed in with proper CQC areas for infantry.
They're still going to get absolutely flamed for this, mind. 1 map, 1 new specialist, 2 new weapons, and 1 new vehicle is simply not going to be enough new content for people after a 7 month wait. And this is meant to last another 3 months before S2.
