4 easily my least favourite.
I think at this point I really had no clue what was going on and the gameplay wasn't enough to enjoy on its own.

Even though MGS4 had a terrible cut-scene to gameplay ratio, I'll more than likely pick it up if it does appear in the 2nd part of the collection (and isn't a totally shit port), as I've only every played it once on a friends PS3.
I've forgotten much of it, but the return to Shadow Moses section was amazing, if brief. Really leaned into the nostalgia.
I am tempted to get the first part of the collection too. Even though it's bare bones I would like to play them again...

From all I remember of MGS4, the first 2 chapters were OK? All I remember after that is hiding in Shadow Moses and skulking around London trailing someone. There is stuff in MGS4 worth seeing but not playing.

Has anything been mentioned about streamlining the inventory/camo management? I couldn't get past how crunky and distracting from the gameplay it was so never made it further than maybe 5 or 6 screens in

Boo. At least it'll load quickly (or should, at least)

I'm actually psyched for this, and very much hope they don't screw the pooch with it. The Phantom Pain was the game that made me a gamer, for want of a less wanky turn of phrase. Sure, I'd enjoyed the other titles I'd bought for my PS4 between September 2015 and early 2016 - GTA V, Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs, and the Uncharted compilation - but they were just games, y'know? The equivalent of action movies. Really good action movies, like Die Hard or Face Off, but still popcorn cinema at heart.
The Phantom Pain, though? Man, I loved that game. It hit me in a way that I didn't think games could, or ever would - just an incredible experience from start to finish, warts and all.
It set me off on a path that would one day lead to everything from Dark Souls to Death Stranding, and from Nier: Automata to Font Geek.
I was initially excited for last year's Master Collection release, until I realised a) how little effort Konami had put in, and b) how tough I (as a modern gaming softie) would find it to play those old-ass releases.
Can't wait for Delta, though.

The fact that it's a 1:1 remake as they've said and it really does look that way still disappoints me to a degree. Maybe Konami didn't trust themselves enough to do a Resi style remake.

Am I right in thinking that the original MGS3 was the first game in the series to have a 'modern' third-person camera (Metal Gear 1 and 2 being 2D, and Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 being top-down)?
If so, I reckon a graphical overhaul and an updated control scheme should be fine; as ever, only time will tell!
It's being co-developed by Virtuos, a studio about which I know very little - looking at their Wikipedia page, they seem to do a lot of ports, some good and some bad.

It was the Subsistence version that introduced the more modern camera. Original release was top down. The camera made the game feel a lot nicer but did make it substantially easier in places.

Thanks! That's interesting.
Did the Substance version of MGS2 add a modern camera as well?

I think it did. I had the PC version of both MGS and MGS2 back in the day. I don't how I completed those games on what are considered terrible ports.

Even the voice acting is the literal same. MGS is a series that belongs to Kojima really, anyone wanting to change or add to it is gonna get called out on and they prob don't wanna risk it. There is a nice touch that any scar or injury you receive will remain permanent, that's def something Kojima would have wanted. If he was in charge, no doubt you'd get a remake with more changes. Seen an alarming amount of takes that they hope MGS3 doesn't turn political which is...hilarious, honestly. But even giving the benefit of the doubt and referring to what they define is political then...Volgin is bi, The Boss is the greatest soldier that regularly beats the men, Snake makes no advances on Eva and it's all down to her to do so and pretty sure you can wear rainbow colours as camouflage. Oh and a black guy is on your support team. They'll hate it.

Feel like I’m late to the party but I really liked 4, even if it was batshit. Wasn’t it the only one you actually got to pilot a Gear in too? I really liked the callbacks to the first two.
Got really heavily invested in 5 and then felt betrayed at the end, where it appeared to change into a football management game or something and want me to be online. To be honest I didn’t understand it at all. It played good though.

5 had the best gameplay of the series, but the weakest plot and the locations could have been better - what we had was great but a few more large bases like Ground Zeroes would have been appreciated... Honestly GZ was better.
I am interested in this Delta remake because it was the best entry in the series, overall. Most coherent, good variety of biomes, and actually a good balance between gameplay and cut scenes.

So yeah everyone called it it's effectively a very nice looking HD Remaster. The fact that it even keeps the small play areas divided by loading screens is just mind boggling. Part of me wonders that it isn't a full remake due to spectre of Kojima over it as I imagine quite a few on that team used to work with him and the awkwardness of trying to recreate his work without his blessing may have had an influence over this decision.

I see this like the Shadow of the Colossus. A nice to have with a graphical update, and a fairly like for like update. The new controls/camera I'll probably not use.
A weird one. I'm probably more excited for what they've done with Silent Hill 2.

That's a good analogy. I'm in a similar position (except that I didn't get to play either game back in the day, and I'm all about the updated controls/camera/etc.!).
If nothing else, it'll be nice to have another modern-ish Metal Gear game to play - I keep getting tempted by Master Collection Vol. 1 every time it's discounted at Amazon, but then I rewatch some gameplay footage and remember why I balked at getting it at launch. Just too dated for me.

From a camera/controls perspective, perhaps 1 and 2 are feeling dated. But, then part of the challenge can be not knowing what's around the corner.
