I think probably the fantasy sci-fi trope I hate more than any other is that one character can speak an alien language and the other English and it’s just fucking fine. Interestingly this episode had three different scenarios for alien languages - none of which were exactly that. Though yeah that is basically the annoying default in a lot of Star Wars. Boba could clearly understand the Sand People by now, but unlike say, Chewbacca, they couldn't understand him speaking Basic fully, so he had use their gestures to make himself understood. The Ithorian Mayor, true to Star Wars lore, couldn't speak Basic because they don't have a vocal system which allows them to, so used a translation device, which he seemed to almost be chewing on. It was gross. The Hutts were just being rude, with the girl Hutt speaking Huttese and the boy Hutt translating it into Basic. Apologies for knowing all the nerd-names, I used to run the pen and paper RPG (some of the lore in Filoni/Favreau stuff was pretty much definitely established in the RPG, I note, though I dunno if they got it from there or Wookiepedia or what).

Reasonably entertaining so far. Not sold on the main actor.
My biggest gripe is that any scene, other than the Tusker/desert setting, looks like Hollyoaks does cosplay. I don't remember Mandalorian looking this bad.

Eh, it's not the best, it's not the worst. I'm invested either way. I like the whole seedy underbelly aspect of pretty much anything, lap scifi/fantasy up and I can trust them to tell a decent, interesting story if Mando is anything to go by.

I'm not massively on board so far but I do like it. I like what they have done with the tusken chaps.

Hope the Tuskans story has been sufficiently told now. It's nice lore and all that shit, but it's outstaying it's welcome. Maybe they can pop up in a later episode to lay ruin to something for some reason, but otherwise just move it on. The production team doesn't seem to do A plot/B plot episodes well at all. Considering he is wearing what they outfitted him with when we see him in the Mandalrian, I think there is more to this story to be told. I can see him getting the Tuskens to help him with the Hutts, or turning his back on it all and returning to a nomadic life in the desert.

The Tuskegee tribe will all be killed off by Bob Fortune’s crime boys, leading Boba to go after Bib and becoming doyen of tattoo envy.

The second episode confirmed what I said last week about the story structure and casting.
The "present day" scenes are completely unnecessary and the story should focus purely on Fett's time with the Tusken Raiders (which it mostly did anyway)... Then move to the "present day" stuff in series 2 or 3.
I still think the lead actor is miscast too. If Disney wanted a stoic, characterless lead then they've certainly achieved that, but they shouldn't expect audiences to become invested in the story of such a bland character.

He's a hangover from the godawful prequels unfortunately.

People seem to be looking forward to Obi-Wan for some reason. I can only assume collective amnesia.

I've never really understood people liking Ewan McGregor's performance. He was fucking dreadful. But given every single actor in the prequels gave career worst performances he may be better in something without such a terrible script.

I quite like E McG, and don’t think he’s particularly bad in the prequels. It’s just that they are so bloody awful themselves.

I like E McG in pretty much everything, but he was terrible in the prequels. Not his fault, but still... I find it hard to get excited about an entire tv devoted to his alec guinness impression.

The best thing McGregor has done is those bike riding documentaries, Fargo and Trainspotting.

Retro fitting the New Zealand voice to the old films was one of the most irritating things about the special editions.

But given every single actor in the prequels gave career worst performances he may be better in something without such a terrible script. I don't think it was just the script. I think it takes some pretty seriously bad directing on top of a script to extract bad performances from so many otherwise-reliable performers (indeed, the cast of the prequels is full of reliable actors with long experience, other than Christiansen), and that's on Lucas. So there's some hope, I think.

Darth Maul's performance was the only thing in the prequels that could be considered good, and that was only thanks to him not having any lines.

I thought E2 was dreadful. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood or whatever, but I was bored shitless. It's more stories that don't need to be told, with a really dull, wooden lead actor. There's no charisma at all. I suspect I was just being charitable last week. Will see what E3 brings before deciding if to continue.

I thought episode 3 was ok. It does feel like the show is broadly treading water until the eventual showdown in three more episodes time.

It doesn't help that Temuera Morrison sometimes reminds me on an angry and confused Michael Rooker depending on what kind of facial expression he's trying to achieve. Not watched the third one yet but it's been very poor so far.
