Yeah, he gets scolded for vaporising people in Empire.

The adorableness of baby Yoda made him change his ways.

He killed a lot of stormtroopers in Mando. I’ve just realised that they are all technically his brothers.

There's a point in the Star Wars history where that's no longer the case though, isn't there? Like Finn and Phasma in the Rey trilogy.

After the end of the clone wars, or before episode 4.

Yeah I think the Clone Troopers are replaced by recruits and conscripts who become Storm Troopers
Which might help explain why the Empire can be taken down so quickly while the Republic/Early Empire was so effective at winning its wars

That Bad Batch show was all about the early empire being racist against clones and wiping them out or something.

The whole clone troopers --> not clone troopers thing is a bit of a naff cludge anyway.

Oh they retconned the retcon?
Also, two episodes left now - regardless of what happens, probably safe to assume we’ll get a Mando post-credits scene with him flying off on his next mission. Or maybe a tease for Ahsoka..?

I watched these over the weekend, they're enjoyable for what they are but not as good as Mando. Episode 5 was definitely the highlight.
Is Ahsoka next? Hopefully it is rather than Obi Wan and we see some new locations as I'm a bit Tatooine'd out.

I think the problem is very much George Lucas fault for taking a cool phrase like clone wars that sounded like it was about 50 years in the past from New Hope and tacking it onto being 20 years from New Hope and having to actually flesh out what that cool phrase could mean

A New Hope makes the Clone Wars feel epic, and I guess it was in terms of its scale, but the need for Anakin to be present at its outbreak and the kids to be born at its end means it ends up feeling truncated. Also the fact that the Republic is about 10,000 years old but the Empire only lasted about 25 years makes Palpatine seem a bit shit. Also I'm pretty sure Kenobi is next (May 4th?!) followed by Andor. Don't know if we're getting Ahsoka this year as they've not started shooting.

That's the trouble. By shoehorning everything that happens in between a couple of generations essentially, they've managed to make everything seem so bloody small. Even watching Mando and BoBF, which we know take place not long after RotJ, it's hard to watch knowing that in basically a handful of years there will be a fully fledged New Order and much much more. In the space of what, fuck all time really. It all feels so bizarre and compressed.

Which doesn't really make much sense in hindsight, given that Luke's dad was in them. But the empire being about as long as Tony Blair's premiereship is a but underwhelming.

Tony Blair was PM for 10 years ![:P](//storage2.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Not 23-25 years. But yeah "Clone Wars" was quite enigmatic and cool sounding, could have been anything really. Could have been the Republic's Vietnam where Anakin fell to the dark side, then the Empire was a separate take over later. Which is the character arc of Revan in KOTOR effectively. Could have been anything. The films do make it seem a bit naff (though the cartoons gives it a bit more of an epic sweep). It doesn't even have obvious geography (which is a tradition of Star Wars films now as the JJ ones are even worse). Like Revenge of the Sith they're just suddenly fighting over Corruscunt the capital of the Republic, is the war going really well or really badly? Huh? Palpatine's plans have too much weird happenstance in them as well.

It’s a single line from Star Wars (I’m fucking never calling that movie A New Hope) that I never even once remembered or placed any significance on until it was made into a terrible, terrible movie.

My personal hot take - Attack of the Clones is the worst of the three prequel movies

My take is AotC is the best by default. Cos it has flippy yoda.

My take is AotC is the best by default. Cos it has flippy yoda. I mean it's sophie's choice of who do you hate more out of a Tory cabinet. But flippy Yoda was one of the worst things about the prequels.

My working
Phantom Menace is a children’s film and looks and acts like a live action cartoon and it does that job just fine.
Attack of the Clones is pure filler and really fudges up the canon
Revenge of the Sith tells the actual story which the prequels needed and looks most like a proper film

Phantom is a kids film but it's pretty dull and only really has the Maul fight to commend it. Revenge is just joyless. QED AotC wins by default because it has Christopher Lee and Flippy Yoda doing the bruce lee hand gesture.

I actually do like Attack of the Clones best, and that's mainly because it's the only one that gives Anakin a reason to turn evil. Tuskens enslaved his mom and had her work to death (or maybe tortured her, it wasn't clear). Okay, I get why he snaps, though slaughtering a whole tribe is a bit much. But I get his anger.
Revenge of the Sith, he was a nightmare and decides it's in his best interest to kill kids and Windu.
Also superficially, AotC was a gorgeous film. Wasn't a lot of it shot in Spain and Italy? Had Natalie Portman looking like a living Alphonse Mucha poster. And more Christopher Lee is always great.

Where does the CGI film with the queer-coded Hutt fit?

Oof. That put me off the whole Clones Wars TV tbh. I know everyone says it becomes great in later seasons, but I remember that film, and the goofy nicknames they use like Snips and Skyguy and I just can't.

Crikey lots of good stuff in the new episode and a significant VFX upgrade too. Was certainly not expecting the live action debut of a certain person, ha - I even made this vague in spoiler protection!
