It’s a touch higher than I would like but I sit further back than that where photo was taken and it’s fine. And, sadly, the tv isn’t fireproof.

But I accept that there isn't full throated support from the thread on this device, so if my whelm is undered I'll only have myself to blame. Nah, coming from stock speakers it will be a massive upgrade and it will be good for music. You might have to turn the dialogue enhancement on in the app, tho. I guess I’m a little down on it because after living with it for a while I’m butting up against its deficiencies more and more but it actually pretty good for what it is.

Problem then is I’ve got a whole load more choice! I’ll stick my other tv in there to see what it looks like and go from there. Appreciate all the helpful comments. I have a 65, and I think I sit about 5.5 feet away from it. And it's perfect. It seems mad as absolute fuck on Day 1 when you first get it, but it just takes a few viewings, and you're in. There's a thingy online where you give it the size etc and it'll tell you the optimum doo dad. Must admit though, there's no way I could put this telly in the living room. Not just because there's no real optimum place to put it, but I prefer to socialise in the living room and watch films/game elsewhere. Just have a tiddly 28" in the living room with a 20 quid soundbar Horses for courses innit! If it was just a mancave I’d definitely go big, but it’s a family room so it has to look like that unfortunately. Going to see if I can sneak up to 50 though.

This is the issue I have been encountering in figuring out how to get our telly on the wall when we re-do our living room. I think we have binned off the idea of a log burner and are now on a wide-screen ribbon gas fire. Otherwise the fucker will be mounted far too high given the short distance to the sofa.

We would be about 6-7 feet from TV in a small living room but 65" C1 is tempting, albeit costly.
Speaking of 4K Blu-Ray, any player suggestions for when I go that route or approximate budget for a decent one?
I have never purchase any external bars or speakers for a TV before and am not really an audiophile (and live in a terrace so neighbours on both sides), would a cheaper soundbar be any improvement or only worth it for a pricy one?

I have a fairly cheap (think it was around £200 - £300) Samsung sound bar in the living room. The difference to the tv speakers is massive. So ime you don’t need to spend a massive amount of money for a noticeable improvement. I’m certainly no expert on these things though, just going by what my ears tell me

I’d love one of these LG OLEDs, but I just don’t have the budget for it. I really need to be in the sub £800 range I think.

I was turbo against it and pouted a bit when it was installed but, yeah, it’s fine. For the distance we sit away from it, we could/should have gone 65” but at the time that was way more than I wanted to pay. Sounds like you’ve done the right thing, though. You’re lucky your other half is amenable because mine was full tilt for a log burner to the point she would have happily binned the telly and just had the fire, so it was that or nothing.

I ran the numbers, and I note that the forum hasn't hit its misogyny quota for the week; so I'll take the opportunity to suggest that you throw your wife on the log burner and then brick it up and install a 65" TV. It's the perfect crime.

We had the same discussion. I managed to win that battle by saying that she could have free reign over everything but I got to pick the AV stuff. Still got the log burner but it went in the corner. Still usually just got her murder documentaries on it though, can’t win everything.

It’s a really long and annoying story but there was a log burner in there originally. All these houses were built with massive alcoves in them but most people tore them out and put their AV units in there and we did the same when we moved in. Over time all of our furniture got oriented to it so there was nowhere for the TV to go without at least re-buying the sofa (the chez was on the wrong side) and moving a load of lights.
Bricking most of it up was amazingly, the cheapest option and possibly the least shit place for the tv (the room is a weird shape).
You know how you get when you get weirdly obsessed with something? Like when you get into headphones, coffee or some other random thing and always have ten tabs open with stuff on it? The Mrs was like that with the log burner. 18 fucking months it was all I heard.

Slightly off topic here but I'm playing Tidal hifi through my ancient Yamaha RX-V373 with some tiny speakers and it sounds absolutely incredible.
After years of Spotify, I'd forgotten how good proper hifi music sounds. Life-changing.

If you aren't cementing your TV directly into the wall then I just don't know what you guys are doing wrong.

I've thought about doing that, but she wants to put back in the chimney breast and have shelving and cupboards either side. Will be a cheaper option though, for sure. As for getting her to agree to gas, the general mood music has helped a bit. I'd definitely still prefer a burner though.

Building site, shit projector (720p), no sound, just testing for size (120") and viewing distance (5m). Looks good, long way to go. i.imgur.com/lZTriTI.jpeg

I'm hoping that my current amp (Onkyo NR 626) will just work with my CX when it comes. I know its a bit old, but hopefully will produce sounds as good as or better than my current setup. I've got it connected to Cambridge mini's (5.1) Ahhhh, I'm glad I read this! That's the same as my amp - the setup of which is having issues with my telly. My TV will handle anything that you throw at it via this amp, but it struggles with HDR output. Do you have any devices on your setup that output HDR signals? And if you do, could you kindly tell me what telly you are currently using?

My TV is an LG 55CX. I am having some problems with it since getting the CX, in as much as at times it doesn't auto start or it starts but still connected to the previous input (e.g. Game when it should be TV). I'm thinking the solution is to have all sources connecting to the TV via HDMI with a single ARC input to the Amp via the TV. I've not had time to look into it too much as yet as life is hectic with work etc.

Hm, so that tells me that it's my Samsung telly that's having the HDR issue, and not the amp. Curious. That's going to be a bit of a bastard because I have rinsed all settings on my samsung but it still has issues with HDR signals. Bollocks. Just out of interest, why are you using the Arc? Can you not have all devices going into the amp and then one HDMI out from the amp to the TV?

Tried to casually bring the mrs round to the larger TV by saying I'm going to move our living room TV in there at weekend to see what it looks like and get an idea of what size we can have. I had a pretty firm - that TV is too big. She was suggesting a TV in the 30s, but to be honest I'd rather just not have one in that case! It has to be 43 minimum. We got a sofa delivered today so should get a good idea of what is right now. I think I might be onto a loser with the 50 inch though To be fair, from the pictures she sent me today, she might not be wrong. But I'm sure will be fine. I've not given up yet though. Baby steps.

Can you not have all devices going into the amp and then one HDMI out from the amp to the TV? What issues are you having? I had a Samsung TV connected before this to my amp and had no issues. As for my current config, I have all devices going into the amp and then the amp connected to the TV via the ARC port on the TV. My understanding is that's the correct way to do it. However as I say, I'm getting some failures in the amp starting when the TV does or switching to the correct source, so think I will try all the sources plugged into the TV (there's only two of them) and then the TV connected to the amp via the ARC. I'm not using eARC as the Amp doesn't support that. One thing I noted earlier was that I was amazed just how great the sound was through the amp on 4k sources. I didn't realise that would improve as well as the picture. Its a good amp and maybe just a bit too complicated for me as it does more than I need.

Like I said, it's a 'family room' so I'll probably have to compromise. If only I had a 55 in the living room I could put that in there and agree to come down to a 50 I'm hoping it looks ok in there though and she says, wow that actually looks really good. It's highly unlikely though.

Kids are always going to want a bigger telly imo. Although I am also looking for a new telly for the summerhouse, which will be like a family room. No chance of bigger than 49" in there, it's tiny....(still hoping to put a corner bar in there though..)

quitsking Ok, say you've got your switch on and you're playing something and then you want to use something else like your 4k player - you know when you change the input source on the amp to flick to the 4k player and it goes black for a second or two while it sorts the signal out, and then it pops up with your 4k player on the screen? Well, everytime I turn a device on that is enabled for HDR, it comes on as normal, but then without me doing anything at all, it will randomly do that black screen for a second or two. Then it's ok. Then it does it again. Sometimes, it does it a few times and then it's fine for hours and hours. Sometimes, it will do it for 20-30 minutes, constantly flicking off and on - as if I'm pressing different input buttons on the amp myself. That's the problem. And it only does it with HDR. At the moment, I've just turned my psvr on and wired it up, so that it isn't sending an HDR output and everything is absolutely fine. For my 4k player, no such luck - as I can't see any options on the setup menu that help - so it's a lottery if I want to watch a HDR 4k film. Or HDR PS5 games, for that matter. Other people on the internet have shared the same views. It did it with the PS4 as well, though that was fixable by setting the HDR output to YUV instead of RGB/Auto. As either RGB or Auto will cause it to have the same issue. YUV is fine though. Unfortunately, that setting is missing on the PS5. Cheers, Sony. Regarding ARC - I've never used it before - I just have everything on hdmi in or out and leave it at that. I thought ARC was something where you had to re-route the audio back somewhere else. But I have 5.1.2 speakers setup on the amp, so I obviously want the amp to process the sounds, and the tv to process the picture, which is what the standard hdmi out on the amp does for me to the hdmi in on the telly. Could be wrong though, there's a myriad of things that I don't know about home cinema.

Try connecting your amp to your TVs ARC port. That's the one you use to input into the TV from external sources and output to it from the TV. That might be your problem. The Arc is basically a two way port.
Mine is and always has been connected that way and I get TV sounds through the amp and it to my speakers. I also get my player and Switch playing through the speakers (5.1 wired).

I will certainly try it, as that's something I've not tried and I'm willing to attempt anything at this point. I'll give it a go soon. Cheers.

Yeah, the TV should be connected to AVR via ARC (audio return channel). It's the basics, Quad
