Richersounds seemed to have the Samsung Q990D soundbar for £979 (Belfast) with a £400 cashback offer from Samsung. I've splurged as it seems a ridiculously good offer. I think it might have to be a mistake but I spoke to RS and whilst they have now taken it down my order did go through and they said they were only taking it down due to the popularity but that the cashback deal is legit... The wife seems slightly less convinced that this deal is amazing

Anyone had a TCL tv? Looking for a second screen for the kid’s lounge and they appear to be quite good value for a qled panel My current living room TV is a TCL. Generally very impressed with the PQ for what I thought was a very budget brand but they absolutely pack a lot of bang for their buck. Their mini LED is actually very impressive. A few niggles with Google tv which may or may not be specific to TCLs implementation but nothing that would stop me recommending it. My biggest issue is the DSE but, again, not necessarily something that would deter me from recommending it, especially for you use case, and it’s a lottery anyway.

New TV day for me!
Just taken delivery of an LG C4 to replace my 6 and a half year old Sony Bravia (which has a 3 inch scratch on the screen from where my son had a tantrum playing FIFA and threw a DualShock 4 at the TV. This was about 4 years ago now and I’ve put up with it for long enough. And yes, he’s still in trouble for that one.)
Anyway, this is my first OLED TV and I’m very much looking forward to getting the PS5 hooked up.
I will post thoughts when I’ve had a play around!

I thought I was more than happy with my Sony 1080p TV until I (almost begrudgingly but not quite) had to upgrade to an LG CX. Genuinely night and day with the right source. You're going to love it.
Don't let the boy near it; or at least tether the dualshocks to his wrists!

Was round a friend's house and got roped in to setting up a new TCL TV for their kids down in the basement/den/playroom. For the price range, I was quite taken aback with the snappy UI and picture quality to be honest, really great little TV. Definitely considering one for our eldest when he needs one in his bedroom. I'm having this consideration. My eldest turns 9 next month. He wants his own console which will probably end up being a Series S, so he can play Minecraft, FIFA and no doubt Fortnite. Obviously he needs a screen but don't want him having a 32" smart TV in his room and smaller sets seem to be hard to find now or are 720p panels. So I guess that leaves us in realms of monitors (he can access tv apps through the Xbox) but most of these don't have speakers and Series S doesn't have an audio out port. Anything obvious I'm missing? (there was an interesting conversation with my wife about this, she is adamant he is too young for a console let alone in his room... But I have vivid and fond memories of having a CPC464 in my room from the age of 8. "Didn't do me any harm". Odd popular culture point to do with modern kids and screens which conveniently ignores the fact most of my friends had amstrads, spectrums etc which they were glued to)

I think tue problem these days is that kids move from one screen to the next. They always have something to watch on the telly/phone, play on the console or phone. When we were younger, games were more at a premium (until we started copying tapes) and kids tv was only at certain hours of the day.

Don't monitors generally have a headphone port, which could be connected to a pair of powered desktop speakers

I introduced gaming to my 6 year old. He absolutely loved it. A bit of racing in hotwheels unleashed, and some Lego Star wars. But then a couple school nights he demanded to play, shouting etc. So he agreed he wasn't able to handle it and he can only play once a season.

I wouldn't have thought you get great quality, as the DAC will be in the monitor and an after thought, but it should be more than serviceable

He won't notice the quality he isn't that savvy. And that's also the reason I don't want to spend more than say £150.

Quick first impressions on the LG C4…
Screen: starting with the obvious, this is so much better than my old LCD Sony. The colours are just much more vibrant and the blacks more black! That’s probably not news to anyone who has had an OLED tv before, but it really is a huge difference. Putting the PS5 Home Screen through at 4K resolution really does look excellent. I tried Astro Bot and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and the space sections especially look much more deep and impressive.
The LG Game mode also seems vastly better than the Sony equivalents with a special UI for settings on refresh rates and latency. I’ve not really played with it much (the default settings seem fine) but it’s good to have.
Sound: A few reviews recommended getting a soundbar to go with this set, and I do have an old ish Samsung one I could use, but so far the TV speakers are perfectly good and clear.
UI: I mentioned Game Mode already, but the rest of the TV seems to be decent in terms of giving access to the usual streaming services, TV Guide and so on. The “Magic Remote” is basically like a Wii controller which… well, it took me back a bit! It works about as well (or badly, depending on your point of view) but I’m not yet sure whether it’s more gimmick than genuinely usable.
Setup throws a lot at you - and doesn’t do a great job of explaining things to be honest. You’re asked to consent to all kinds of online services and advertising which doesn't give a good first impression really. There are also lots of ads on the Home Screen - not enough to get in the way of the content you want, but it’d be nice if it was easier to remove icons for streaming services you don’t use, and to prioritise what you do want.
Anyway, I probably have lots to learn - but I like it and the improvement in image quality is worth it alone.

Not sure if anyone here will help with this, but drawing blanks on how to solve the issue and equally not sure why there is a problem with my audio setup.
For a bit of background, I have a Denon X2600H AVR hooked up to a Sony XF9005 TV. Previously, I had my PC, PS5 and Switch plugged into the AVR and then the eARC from the AVR connected to the TV. Only problem was that the AVR was only HDMI 2.1 passthrough, which caused some issues with HDR (could never enable it properly on Windows and the PS5 would regularly show flickering green pixels unless I dropped the video transfer rate to -2).
As my TV only has 2 ports on it that are 2.1 compatible (one that is the eARC and the other I had a Firestick in), I decided to get a HDMI switch. So, now I have all my things connected to the HDMI switch, which is plugged into the TV and the TV connected to the AVR, as before.
This seems to work fine for all the video, but I can't get it to work with the surround audio. I can put the AVR into some fake surround mode and all speakers will work as expected, but nothing will get a 5.1 or higher signal to go through the switch. I've gone through all the options on my TV, AVR, on my PC and on my PS5 and I can't find anything to get it to work. I also tried plugging my PC into the AVR directly again and the 5.1 worked again.
So, I guess my question really is can a HDMI switch not support surround sound? I've tried Googling the answer to this question (and the problem in general) and not really getting anything. I can only think that these switches just don't support what I'm trying to do, but equally have no idea why it wouldn't work.

It should work! You might need to change the sound output settings to bitstream or something similar.

You're right, it should work. Checked through the Firestick yesterday and that definitely is working, so it isn't the HDMI switch itself. Nothing I do with the settings on either the PC or the PS5 seems to get it to send a surround signal though (not checked the Nintendo Switch).

On the LG C4... I've got the 48C4 and I find the auto-dimming on bright images way more aggressive and frequent than the 48CX it replaced.
If you're watching a programme with lots of quoted black text on a white background, for example, the brightness adjustments are all over the place. It even happens in bright outdoor scenes. I didn't experience it this frequently on the CX, and it wasn't as aggressive when it did happen. It leads to some very dull looking scenes.

Think you're in service mode territory if you want to turn it off. Can't remember if you need a specific remote or not.

I've got an LG service remote, and I used it to turn off one of the settings on the CX (TCL or something?) to solve the issue of prolonged dark scenes becoming too dark to see.
I thought the dimming of bright scenes was another setting though. I'd like to avoid poking around in the service menu if at all possible.

They’ve locked up a lot of the service menu now, you don’t have the same access anymore.

Interesting. Is that for all models through firmware updates or only more recent ones?
It's one of those things I.was waiting for the warranty to lapse before poking about!

Just newer models, I believe. They fixed the dark scene dimming and then locked access in the menu, but I guess there's other stuff they've locked up too.

Most of the settings are greyed out, as it is all being passed over to the AVR (and I've checked the options there too). Weirdly though, the PS5 just started working last night. Don't think I changed anything, but the menu music was coming out the rear speakers. So, just PC that refuses to work.

Grasping at straws... But are all cables proper high speed ones?

Yep, all the same HDMI 2.1 cables. These ones: amzn.eu/d/4RHlY4EIf one isn't going to work properly than the PC is the least troublesome, as I never think games (particularly on PC) use surround very well. PS5 is where I watch 4k/blu ray discs though, so that is the important one. Hopefully now it is working it stays working.

Oh hang on, I get something similar to my x2600 (although the PS5 is connected directly to the telly and passed through). It'll just stop working and I have to unplug all cables, turn off and reattach. Just a handshake issue I think.
