Think of ARC as being like "audio out" for your TV.

Kids are always going to want a bigger telly imo. Although I am also looking for a new telly for the summerhouse, which will be like a family room. No chance of bigger than 49" in there, it's tiny....(still hoping to put a corner bar in there though..) I'm going to measure up later. Hopefully I can then find an online guide of distance vs size that says we need a 50"

Doesn't work unfortunately. Still get the flickering on both PS5 and the 4k Player. So can rule ARC out as well.
I've never been able to fix this in years. The only thing I ever got close, was when you could change the output on the ps4 to YUV which fixes it for that, but for 4k films + ps5 - you basically have to get lucky which is fucking shit considering the expense of the items, but trust me, if I could fix it, I'd fucking fix it!

Have you tried disconnecting one of the sources at a time and seeing if you still get the issue? If it fails no matter which is connected, then it's the amp or TV.
Have you checked your TV doesn't require you to set anything for arc to work properly was many do. It should certainly be arc though that you're using on both the TV and the amp (arc main out on the amp).

Yeah, I've tried that, and I've tried looking at the ARC setup on the TV now I've set it up that way. And also just gone through everything again on the amp as well. Nothing untoward going on. It's definitely the amp or the tv - I just don't know which device is struggling with the input and none of the settings help on either device.
Thing is, say I did something that made it 100% clear it was the TV or the Amp, what do I do then? I've changed and checked every single setting as it is.
I suppose what I could do, which won't cost me anything is ask a mate who has a business where I could borrow a different telly for a day and see if it does it with that.
I was thinking of upgrading my telly at one point you see, but I'm fucked if I'm doing that until I find out more about this issue. Last thing I want to do is get a different telly and then have the same fucking issues.

You don't have a spare TV do you? You've tried a different HDMI cable between the amp and the TV? My guess is its your TV if you've always had this issue as my setup is fine and I've the same amp. Of course you could have always had this issue on the amp.

My mate should be able to sort me out just for a quick test. Yes, done the leads, settings, CDC stuff, HDCP, Deep colour settings, output settings, different sockets, different amount of stuff in the amp. Last telly before this was a 42" plasma, non-4k. This is the first HDR enabled 4k telly I've owned.

I think bigger is generally better, but for the same size screen I think you want to sit closer for movie night compared to Bake-Off, and then even closer for gaming. Watching regular TV on something I find ideal for gaming would be awful.

I should sit 9.5 feet away according to that. It's more like 6 feet. Oh well.

7 feet for 50 inch, that sounds promising. I think it is more like 6 feet though which would technically be 43". Fingers crossed for 7! On the plus side, I should have a much bigger TV in the living room

I've had a couple of Samsung TV's with connection issues including the ones your mentioning. My last one developed a fault and had to be replaced but I got a Sony instead and zero issues with my PS4 flickering etc. Fast forward 2 years and ive just got a Samsung NEO QLED and lo and behold nothing I connect to it will work. I managed to get the PS5 working with it by setting it to 1080p. Needless to say its being returned and refunded. Loads of people are having the same issues with Samsung's new models. I've given Samsung the benefit of the doubt but never again. Frustratingly the picture is actually stunning when it worked. I'd be very surprised if it's the amp at fault. Hope you sort it. Very frustrating.

Yeah, I think she is more concerned with how it looks in the room though unfortunately. It might look better wall mounted as slightly further away, but the layout of the room wont allow it.

Very frustrating. No worries - hijack away! Thanks for the info - and yes, my money is on the tv too. This is one of the KS8000 ones from around 2018/2019 iirc and it's always done it. Yes, it is *fucking* annoying - if I'm not in a rush or have time and I'm on my own, I can work around it by either waiting and hope it settles, or put the psvr in to remove the hdr, but I shouldn't have to do that. Plus, it can also randomly pop up later even if it settled earlier, which is a fucking absolute nightmare when you're gaming for instance. Dark souls boss fight and the screen goes black? Yeah, that's really helpful. Interesting that you have the same issue too. On a Samsung. And yeah, when it works, the picture is fucking amazing - I end up (believe it or not) just putting up with it and using whatever method I can to get round it, because the warranty is long gone. Sorry to hear you're having the same bloody problem - I know exactly how frustrating it is. I can't even sell it on really, because if anyone puts an HDR device on it, it'll do it to them too, and that's just not on in my book. So I'm kinda stuck, really.

I had the KS8000 and just put up with the PS4 flickering. Samsung ended up refunding me for an unrelated problem and i've not had one since until yesterday. I did loads of research before getting the new one and loads were having issues but some weren't. I was hoping for the best but I ended up with a duff one. Lesson learned .

So we’ll be about 5.5ft away. I’ve measured up and I have to reluctantly admit that I think 43 is the right size. She won’t go bigger and I won’t go smaller Being so close hopefully it will feel bigger! I need to decide whether to move my console in there though. It’s currently on my 49” in the living room, but I measured and I’m sitting 10 ft away! That’s a 71 inch I should have! I do have a chair that’s closer but it doesn’t have my surround speakers so I don’t usually sit there. Might be better closer on a 43”

What exactly is "revolutionary" about a TV with a streaming app?

Vincent Teoh is also quite positive about the sky glass TV. He notes it's obviously not the kind of thing he is interested in usually as it is not going to be the best picture quality, but for people wanting something affordable in a simple package it was an interesting prospect.
He expects it to not be very bright at all (500nits maybe) with not that many dimming zones.

One thing is got going for it is the Radio Rentals model. New features are accelerating in frequency so returning to a rental model, aside from the physical mechanics of swapping the TV, kind of makes sense, I suppose.
Like I just bought my oled the year(ish) before hdmi 2.1 and eArc so I’m locked out of atmos and 120hz gaming until my expensive TV dies. I wouldn’t actually mind paying like 17 quid a month to just rent it and swap it out every two years

I am not sure about that, isn't it kind of a one time threshold, rather than a steady increase in features? I.e. proper hdmi compatibility will last you a long time now.

I dunno. It feels like there is always something like HDR10+, Dolby Vision or some other new 'standard' of something on the horizon.
I suppose it depends on how long you generally keep TVs for. In my head, its like 10 years but in reality its probably 4(ish)? But, even so, I would be fine renting it rather than dropping 1500 beans in one hit.

Well I think the Sky glass model is something like £30 a month for 4 years including sky TV, for the smallest TV.
I guess sky like it because it locks in for a whole 4 years.

Slightly off topic here but I'm playing Tidal hifi through my ancient Yamaha RX-V373 with some tiny speakers and it sounds absolutely incredible. After years of Spotify, I'd forgotten how good proper hifi music sounds. Life-changing. I've been thinking of switching over from Spotify to Tidal but I'm unsure of what the range of music is that they offer. I'm not really into the latest chart and artists stuff. I listen to OMD quite a bit and other 80's synth pop groups, film and TV sound tracks, bits of classical music, 90's trance techno. Nothing too obscure, but not what you'd call current or mainstream either. From Tidal's website it's hard to get an idea of what the range of music is on their service.

I think its 17 quid a month for the TV and then you bolt on services on top of it. So you are contracted for the TV but you can dip in and out of the sky service itself by the month. Seems like, basically, now tv but with a higher bitrate than an old nokia.

Chaz - worth giving their 30 day trial a go. Their playlists are crap compared to Spotify but the range seems on par.

So trying to get 4k from my PS4/Pro to my TV, after faffing about for a few hours last night and watching numerous guides or YouTube videos I finally got it working, why the hide the specific settings in such obscure places in the menus is beyond me, it also seems that only one of my 4 HDMI cables will allow 4k from the PS4, a little googling suggests that actually not all HDMI cables are the same and if you want 4k 60fps then an HDMI 2.0 is essential? Anyone care to share some insight or further info?
