Thanks witchking. Unfortunately I can’t really go bigger as it would be a bit of an eyesore in a relatively small room.
Loads of options it seems. First decision though - QLED or not QLED?

LG 43UP77006LB: £389.40 67% Samsung QE43Q65T £599 60% "rubbish sound" Philips 43PUS7505/12 £331.54 51% "weak sound"
I can look in to more on each if you're interested.

My new TV should be arriving today. (Went for the 55” LG OLED C1).

QLED is not always better than standard LED even amongst Samsung's own TVs. The UE43TU fare better than the QE series in picture quality tests.

I’m not too worried about the sound, as I’d probably get a sound bar anyway. All TVs I’ve had have rubbish sound. Thanks for the help. Don’t worry about further research, I’ll stop being lazy and do it myself Based on the reviews I’m getting the impression that QLED isn’t adding much at that size? Edit - Like you just said Witchking - thanks again!

According to Which, at least its not - if you get the right TV.
The QE43Q60T (the highest QLED rated Samsung at 43") for instance it reviews as "mediocre", "blurry" with soft fuzzy edges abounding as its upscaling is poor. It doesn't have the black and white contrast you'd expect and 4k doesn't punch.
Compare that to the UE4300TU8500 which they say has a "fantastic picture" with beleivable picture and well balanced shade. They say 4K is "sharper than a chef'f knife". Negatives are: viewing angle is a bit narrow and dense blacks look a but grey (minor issue they say)
Right, I'm going to get my lazy ass exercising. Good luck.

Rtings is a great resource. I have been looking for similar for my in-laws. I think Hisense give a brilliant bang for your buck.

Their YouTube channel is excellent, too. Although prepare to have your mind blown that they pronounce it ‘ratings.com’ rather than ‘arr tings’ like some kind of Rasta grumbleweed

Obligatory nod to John Lewis for their standard 5 year warranty and good after sales service.

I think one of those LG sets I put there was under £400 and seemed to be decent based on ratings. Can’t really argue with that tbh. Really I just want a decent set in my new man cave (or office or kids playroom depending on who you ask) to eventually play a ps5 on. I’d like to go bigger, but I’d be sitting relatively close so I think 43 is the max I could go to.

You definitely want to go to 49 or 55 then imo...

Probably, but it looks like an interesting proposition. Assuming the set is actually half decent, the prices look to be on a par with other similar sized tv's so (at least until the reviews come in) they don't appear to be scalping anyone.

My new TV should be arriving today. (Went for the 55” LG OLED C1). This is what I am tempted to get, just got to decide if a 65" is a) too big and b) too much of a premium first. I am replacing a 42" Plasma.

They're never too big and you always get used to the size. If you're choosing between two, I'd definitely get the larger one. You're going to be staring at it for a long time, so might as well get the optimal one you can imo.

You'll know sky are serious when they rebrand NowTV as just Sky or SkyNet or something.

You definitely want to go to 49 or 55 then imo... Ideally I would, but I'm probably only sitting about 6ft away from the screen (not actually measured) and its a relatively small room so I think anything bigger than a 43 is not going to look right. To be fair, I could just leave my gaming in the living room on the 50 inch, but I'd probably get more time on it in the other room.

To be fair I actually regret not going 55 in the living room for that very reason (bezel - or lack thereof). It really didn't look that much bigger than my old 46 inch (I think the total size was actually smaller).
I think I'll get some furniture in there then get a template of the size to see

I was surprised to find I sit about 9' from my TV and "needed" a 65" TV ideally. I didn't get a 65" as I was too tight to pay almost double for the extra 10" over the 55". I do sometimes think that a bigger screen would have increased the "wow" factor, but I didn't want the flippin thing to dominate the room. I also didn't want to be sat in front of the thing all the time.

I am replacing a 42" Plasma. As Quaddy says, if you get the 55", then you will wonder if you should have got the 65". I couldn't justify the premium myself. I'm also not sure I could have fit it in the space without doing myself an injury. I also doubt I could have fitted any cables into it had I done so.

Like you, I don't really want it to dominate the room. It's not a tiny room but it's certainly not big. I feel 43 is the idea size, but I'll see if it can be pushed up to 49....
