True. It may be that I've only watched international games on iPlayer.

Remember for sports to turn back on some the crap... If you watch football in cinema mode it will look awful.

For people wanting to test their new tvs, youtube has some nice HDR content. Lots of crap too, like badly upscaled movie trailers, or stuff where they’ve pushed the colours to ridiculous levels. This one channel has some nice 4K 60fps HDR stuff, it’s not very exciting content, but in terms of sharpness and colours I find it amazing. youtube.com/watch?v=Ll3F6dCZIe4

If you have an LG (can’t be arsed going back a whole page to check, but I think that’s what was said. Come to think of it, clicking back a page would have been much quicker than typing this out, but I’m lazy in a profoundly stupid way sometimes) then you can save settings under the different categories, like the sport one, and switch between them at your leisure

It was more the colour and vibrancy for me. In cinema mode the grass and kits just looked really really dull and almost greyish.

I do have an LG.
I’ll see how it is later and adjust accordingly.

Planet Earth II is great, especially the last episode. OLED was made for neon lights at night.

Some live sport and some series are HDR on iPlayer. They're labelled "UHD".
iPlayer uses the HLG HDR format developed by the BBC, and it's incredible. It's a shame it's not the standard HDR format, so instead you have to put up with all this Dolby Vision and HDR10 muck for programmes elsewhere.

Has anybody noticed the HDR quality on some new netlix shows seems to be getting worse? Some of the new stuff is just really dark. I've had the same problem with the Willow series on Disney plus too, its unwatchable in the day.

I don't have Netflix currently, but I'm going to watch Mando later on D+ so I'll see if I notice any difference with the HDR.
My CX did a 2000 hour full pixel refresh thingy when I switched it off yesterday, so not sure it that'll affect the peak brightness in a perceptible way.

Netflix HDR stuff has been shoddy for a while. Don't know why I pay for it really.

The Crown was also so fucking dark all the time, really annoying.

Spent a bit of time with the tv and I’m pretty impressed! Watched some of the early kick off on bt ultimate (which was UHD but not HDR, not sure if that’s normal) and it looked great. Also started watching perfect plant on iplayer which is also very nice indeed.
Gaming very impressive, you can even tell the difference on fifa, looks so much nicer.
Very happy so far!

BT Sport does have a HDR channel, but it’s buried down the list. For some reason they don’t really talk about it, you have to hunt it down

Is that not BT ultimate?

No there’s another one, scroll down from ultimate. It’s listed with the ‘extra’ channels I think. Not home at moment so can’t look myself
Edit - googled it, it’s channel 465

Ah right. My googling revealed mention of streaming in hdr, but I’ve got a bt box so no idea what devices that works with

Seems like virgin might be 4K SDR. Maybe they’ll get an HDR stream soon.

I'd take 1080p HDR over 4K non-HDR. The way HDR lifts the image is transformative, far more than pure resolution.
It always frustrates me when I watch or play something in 4K and there's no HDR, especially brand new shows like Better Call Saul, for example.

Just swapped a TV for a smaller one for the first time in my life.
Had to accept that the room is too pokey for a 55 inch. Gone for the 48inch C2. Maybe now the lightgun will work properly.

Thought I'd have a quick look at sizes available and Id be happy with this LG OLEDC24LA 42" but its £949 at Currys. When I've got windows and a door to replace I probably shouldn't even be thinking about such things.
Someone mentioned being happy with a Samsung qn95. How does that compare to the above?

Thought I'd have a quick look at sizes available and Id be happy with this LG OLEDC24LA 42" but its £949 at Currys. The very predictable advice would be to sit tight for a couple of months for the next round of sales if you can. I bought the C2 42 (great tv, you won't be disappointed) for £699 from John Lewis in November when their list price was also £949. JL usually have a summer sale in June and other places may well run one in Easter or May.
