Samsung is doing money off on most of their TVs if you give them your old one. Looks like it's value doesn't matter. On the s95B 55inch neo QLED at £1500 you get £200 off (whatever the brand and size and age).

Gang, I should be moving house soon. Need a new TV. Ditched our last one, which was a 48" 1080p jobbie. What are the got TVs at the moment? Is there price-performance sweet spot at the moment? Thinking 4K, HDR, blah blah blah. Want it for gaming, movies, etc. I reckon I've got a £1k budget, similar size to last one, but could be convinced to go higher on budget if extras are worth it. If it was me and I had £1k, I'd keep an eye out for either an LG C2 OLED or a Samsung S95B OLED on sale. They're both usually a bit more than £1k, but that's definitely where the price-performamce sweet spot is IMO, especially if you're using it for gaming. There are a lot of comparison videos between the 2 online, but the bottom line is the LG has a more accurate but dimmer image, and the Samsung has a brighter more vivid image, but can sometimes exaggerate colour. Also the Samsung has a worse UI and no Dolby Vision support. I'd be completely torn between the two if I had to choose, but the Samsung's image would probably swing it.

I don't know if its improved or not, but the Samsung build quality from early 4k sets has put me off. Plus, LG's OS is damn fine, sluggish UI really annoys me. So still LG for me!

From quick look online I'm coming down in favour of LG for some of reasons highlighted. Build quality, audio, UI, etc.
That said Sammy has an offer for NHS staff supposedly but I can't get it to work. Bleh.

Even though I have an S95B that I'm over the moon with, if I had to recommend a TV to a friend in that price bracket I'd probably just go with the equivalent LG OLED for an easy life. The UI is better and you'll be faffing a lot less with it out of the box, assuming those sorts of things bother you that is. The Samsung is phenomenal when it's firing on all cylinders, but it has some rough edges.
For value at the moment the LG OLED55CS6LA is a great buy, it's been down as low as £799 over the last month or two. It's essentially the C1 panel with the C2 image processor, plus all the modern gaming features and HDR support you could want. All the TV anyone needs really.

I have an LG CX at the moment, but my living room can get very bright some days, so I think the brighter Samsung QD OLEDs would suit the room better... higher brightness whilst maintaining perfect blacks is a huge win. That's the only thing that would swing it for me personally.
That said, the UI and overall user experience on the Samsung might drive me crazy, being used to the LG interface. Tough call.

I still swear by my qled neo 95a mini led. And I’d recommend it over an lg oled compared to my two mates lgs (they may be older ones though). but for some reason Samsung is keeping the price high on the new 95b’s, when they should be dropping in price. Also nothing wrong with the UI on mine?

Yeah, I never understood the hate for Samsung’s UI. It’s no worse than LG’s IMO, and miles ahead of the Android UI on my Sony.

Anyone got any projector recommendations? Looking to pay under £500 ideally. Doesn't need to be very short throw, 1080p is fine, don't need low input lag for gaming but it would be good if it wasn't really slow. Is that realistic?

From my research, the budget seems low for something decent. gamingdave is your man here I think.

Sub £500 is not really where I would be looking to get a projector. I know there are a lot of portables in that range, and something like the Samsung Freestyle might suit your needs (they just announced a new one at CES so perhaps a price drop is imminent, or the replacement). They are not going to give you "Home Cinema", for that you really need to be looking at £2k+, but it could be an option. To get the best out of a projector you need a dark room, and a good screen (extra cost) but a friend does have a similar device (Anker Nebula) she uses in the garden in the summer and really likes it. I've not seen it and would probably be hyper critical, but her kids love it so it fit's her needs.

Thanks all. Thing is, it's not for our main living room, it's for a spare room to replace a 32" 720p TV, so I'm loathe to spend more than £500. Not sure I'd even get clearance for that much Will look at that one you posted mrpon.

You could probably get a decent enough 55" TV for that kind of money (he says without reading the rest of the thread). Won't be amazing, but it'll blow any similarly priced projector out of the water.
I'd only really consider going with a projector if I was rich enough to have a dedicated cinema room, and that's not happening any time soon.

Yep, the less you spend on a PJ the more your environment has to do the heavy lifting. I'd get a TV dude.

Well, thanks hive mind, but the nature of the room and where the connections are make a projector a good solution, in theory at least. Suppose I could trail some cables under the carpet or round the skirting (though it would be a long run) but that seems like a lot of hassle.

I’ve been at my work for 20 years next month, and that means I get a cool £1k towards a gift of my choice.
Wanted an OLED for years. Guessing the LG C2 is the way to go still? Seems to be about £1200 for the 55” so just need add £200. Plus I’ve just got a big bright spot on my current LED. Perfect timing.

I wouldn't touch Curry's with a barge pole for something like a TV, absolutely shocking company, no matter how good the deal might seem, I naively bought a £400 item from Currys a month before Christmas, it proved to be faulty after about two days so opted to return it for a refund, literally half a dozen attempts both online and by speaking with their customer service over the next month, several missed pickups by their couriers to collect the thing two wasted trips to Currys stores to try and return it that way (on their advice) eventually I drove 30 odd miles to the DPD hub where they eventually accepted it. The most hilarious one was where I happened to see a DPD guy walk up our drive then walk back to his van and drive off only to get an email 30s later saying I wasn't in. Check out their Facebook page for some sobering reading.
