Speaking of Samsungs, I do sometimes change the picture mode when people are out of the room. The default dynamic one or whatever it is gives me a fucking headache.

Filmmaker mode is an acquired taste that works best in a very dark room. It is supposedly the most accurate, but does often seem quite dull in normal conditions. I tend to use Cinema Home for HDR stuff and Expert Brightroom for everything else (except games). I've come to the conclusion that the quest for the "most accurate" picture (lead by the excellent Vincent Teoh) is a little misguided, unless you're an absolute purist. I too use Cinema Home and Expert Brightroom for everything because other modes are simply too dark, despite being more accurate. These OLED screens are capable of extremely vivid colour reproduction, stark contrasts, and bright highlights, and should be used to their full potential, IMO, despite these embellishments going against the "creator's intent".

On a similar note, does anyone have any tips on hdr settings? I was watching the football on Amazon last night and it was really dark, even with panel brightness and contrast set to 100 (cinema home mode). I know you are generally supposed to leave things like contrast enhancers off, but wondering whether it may be useful here? I know hdr is meant to look more natural, and a football match at night is going to be a bit darker, but it’s not pleasant to watch. Or should I just hdr off for things like that? Sorry if any of the above are stupid questions, I’m a bit of an hdr noob Which game did you watch. I noticed the Newcastle game wasn't HDR for whatever reason. The Leeds game was fine. Standard mode on my OLED is way too bright and cartoony colourful. . I use Cinema and its fine. I watched the Leeds game. I might try standard mode tonight and see how I get on. It might just be for football matches to be fair. I'll test out some HDR stuff on iplayer like dougs suggests and see how that goes. Maybe it is something to do with lighting in the room. I'll also see how it looks on my living room tv for comparison.

If it's not HDR, try Expert Bright room. Even Cinema Home for HDR I've tweaked a bit but can't remember what I've changed now.

I've come to the conclusion that the quest for the "most accurate" picture (lead by the excellent Vincent Teoh) is a little misguided, unless you're an absolute purist. This is also true of audiophiles. A lot of them will chase something really neutral, give gear recommendations based on neutral, 'reference' or 'critical' listening and if you follow that you tend up with quite lifeless, thin sounding music. Theres a sonos 'expert' on youtube who gives recommended EQ settings to get the best out of your sonos and all he does is chase for an absolutely flat response curve and knocks the bass out of everything. His recommended settings sound genuinely awful. So, yes, while Vince is great for explaining what settings do and giving you a ball park, use your own eyes for your own living space.

I got my C1 last week and set it up in Filmmaker mode etc following a vid fron AVForums. Picture was a bit washed out for me so I tweaked it a bit until I was happy. As for the PS5 I used the recommended settings from HDTVTest with some small changes. youtu.be/qSpzw0HXxRwyoutu.be/S0G8sHcFQq8

I think I'm fine for non HDR (but I'll certainly check out Expert Bright Room - although I don't remember seeing it as one of the options). I'll mess around tonight and see if I can find something that works.

You probably won't have the expert modes if the TV is older.

I would have expected inclusion then, especially if it has filmmaker mode.
I like Filmmaker mode personally. Warm 2 does look odd when you first switch to it from cooler palettes but I set it on all of my active channels and then refrained from switching it back. Within a week it looks completely normal in everything, and anyone that's come to watch things has never questioned it being different from their sets (and I know for a fact that none of them use it).

Similar, but under advanced controls > white balance you can set the colour temp.

In one video, Vincent said something along the lines of "Why would you ever watch an OLED in anything but a darkened room?". He might have been half joking (although I'm not sure) but from that point onwards I just thought "sod it" and bumped the brightness and colour saturation up to what I thought looked best. It's just not realistic to close the shutters and turn all the lights off whenever you want to watch TV.

I'm slightly uncomfortable when I see all the brightness , contrast and OLED light settings on maximum. 😮

Really wishing I'd got a C1 during Black Friday... looks like it's at least £1700 everywhere now. Now it's a waiting game for it to come down to £1500. I guess January sales probably!

Got my eye on a 65" C1 as well. Something tells me it won't be hitting £1500.

A couple of places did have it sub-£1500 during BF... PRC Direct and Costco
At this point I might bite at £1600

I kinda really want the 65" G1 instead - thought I saw one for 1600. Nearly had a heart attack.

Wonder if Sony will add VRR support then, or if it'll be another "coming in a future update" situation for the third year in a row.

Still undecided on the c1 55” and qled neo 95 with mini leds. Their are a few channels on YouTube now clearly showing the qled neo is better for gaming. Also the blacks on the neo 95 are amazing plus it’s brighter.
However I’m fully aware that I’m in deep fanboy territory on both sides and have no Idea what to pick.
I’m not in the slightest bit bothered by Dolby Vision either.
I was all set for a c1 but now I don’t know what to do...

Better for gaming? Meaning OLED burn-in? Cause from what I gather OLEDs still have the best (shortest) input lag, though LG and Samsung's LED input lag is better than most.

Think the neo mini led is comparable for input lag. There is a video on YouTube and the they ran both side by side and the neo 95 was picking up game detail the oled wasn’t. Also the brightness levels really pop more on hdr games because it now has comparable blacks. Finally YouTube is full of LG oled fanboy channels who are giving out their ‘expert’ opinion as fact. However I’m fully aware that I may just be echo chambering myself on the qled 95 neo too.

I've a C9 oled and it's fine but just doesn't go bright enough for my room. I had a Neo 95 briefly but had hdmi issues and it got returned. I've a neo94 coming on Friday which is the same as the 95 but without the external connect box thing which apparently has issues. The picture on the QLED was stunning and mega bright. I've had the oled nearly 3 years and its mainly for gaming an movies and has zero burn in. Just my 2p worth.....

Wonder if Sony will add VRR support then, or if it'll be another "coming in a future update" situation for the third year in a row. It was implemented on the models lower down the range a few months ago with mixed results. It disables the dimming tech so isn't ideal. There's rumblings that the hardware isn't up to the job . I suspect the PS5 will get it but not this years tv's.
