I have a 55" LG OLED B7 that is coming up for three years old and it has developed the dreaded burn-in.
I'm pretty annoyed because I've been super cautious about my viewing habits, deliberately avoiding static images and news tickers. Yet it's the dreaded Sky Sports "breaking news" banner that's burned in and visible on blocks of vivid colour. I honestly have no idea how this happened as I don't have that channel on for more than a few minutes at a time.
Anyhow, I've contacted LG and they've suggested a panel replacement for a cost of £200. This doesn't sound too bad , but I'm worried now that I'll get the burn-in again and wish I'd just opted out of OLED altogether.
Anyone have an experience of having an OLED panel replaced?

Wow. That's surprising after only 3 years. Is it definitely burn-in ? I've a bit of image retention on my C9 but the pixel refresh gets rid of it when it kicks in. I've SKY news on a lot so I best be careful

I've SKY news on a lot so I best be careful Oh it's definitely burn-in. I've run the manual pixel refresh about a dozen times and it made no difference. Interestingly, the LG engineer asked me to run a YouTube video with a plain bright yellow background. I was shocked to see the middle of the panel was pretty much green rather than yellow and the burn-in visible. Maybe it's a faulty panel.

If my CX develops burn-in, I'm going to argue to John Lewis / LG that the product isn't fit for purpose. I also avoid static images like the plague, but it's things like video progress bars / UI controls on the built-in apps that worry me... hardly obscure TV usage, such as using it as a PC monitor.
Given your experience, it seems elements like this don't even have to be displayed for long, unbroken periods of time. It seems the burn-in effect will accumulate over time for any recurring on-screen element, which is worrying.

Seems the red pixels burn/wear out quickest.
Alarmingly quick if you watch the "wrong" content.
Worth a watch....

Scared of getting an OLED now
I want my TVs to last more than 5 years!
Was getting pretty close to ordering a C1
Also keen on the Sony HT-A9 set as it should work with my open plan setup and restrictions on where I can put speakers. Def gonna wait for that to come down in price though. Hopefully it'll do well and spawn a wave of competitors!

I went for a Sony OLED in the end as the Sony Store says they cover burn in with their warranty.
Also for its bonus TV capabilities (like upscaling and decent motion handling).
Sadly the only HDr console I have at present is PS4 so 1080p HDR for now.

I was thinking about the Sony OLED as well (55" A80J), but my sister and both my parents purchased TVs over the weekend. 65" X80J in my sister's case, and 75" TCL and Samsungs in each parent's case. So I had to go to their places to help them carry and set up their TVs. Now I'm considering going for a lower end model but larger set. The X80J looked stunning, much nicer than my old XE90. Maybe.. maybe a 65" X90J is in my future. Size might be a bigger upgrade than black levels.
How are you liking your Sony OLED?

TV's don't seem to be built for longevity these days.

I've currently got an LG 55 inch that I think is 7 years old.... Only really replacing it because I got a Series X and want 4k/HDR/120Hz
The picture quality hasn't degraded at all in that time as far as I can tell. Maybe I should be looking at a Samsung neo QLED instead, seems like the higher end ones have really good black levels

I got the 65" A84J (slight tweak to A80J) last week and so far seems nice from what I have tried including some 4K stuff and some upscaled stuff. Switch looks very nice from the few things we have tried and the PS4 looks fairly nice too but obviously a Pro or 5 would be a big improvement. Default sound seems fairly decent too. I came from a 42" Panasonic plasma which is still going but may go to a different room now

If you've seen the recent HDTVtest vid on oled Vs LCD, as a gamer, I don't think I can consider anything other than Oled now. (Currently a Samsung qled).

I wouldn’t worry too much about burn in. The preventative settings that the TV has built-in are better than ever, and have seen improvements in the last few years.
A mate of mine ordered the Sony HT-A9 after I told him about it a week ago, and got a email about delivery today. I’m going to play with his a bit before I think about getting one for myself.

My biggest issue now is that its a bit pricey compared to the 43 inches I was looking at. Plus we'd need a sound bar on top. Although at John Lewis I could get both for £1,300 which doesn't seem too bad. We'll have it for years. I think its worth it though I just bought the 48 C1, upgrading from a 40 inch Sony 1080p from 2008. Would have liked to go bigger but it’s the largest i can fit in the alcove between the fireplace and the wall. Nevertheless, the difference is amazing. Had some worries about how reflective the glossy screen would be and burn in, but all doubts evaporated once it was set up. I went with John Lewis for the guarantee and burn in cover. It’s pricey once you chuck in a sound-bar, but I won’t replace it for years. And once you’ve got Blue Planet 2 of A Perfect Planet on you’ll be too busy picking your jaw off the ground to think about the money. This is where I'm at - the Sony 40 is getting on a bit now and I'd quite like to watch the streaming 4K content on D+ seeing as it's there and ready to use. How you all getting on with the LG C1 screens - in a flat I think the 48 would be the biggest I'd opt for...

Was hoping for an awesome C1 Black Friday deal but nothing really good enough to tempt me yet. Not that I really expect it much cheaper, more that I wasn’t planning on getting one until next year so wanted a deal I couldn’t refuse

Me and you both; still 1K at John Lewis and that'll be a huge chunk of change for me.

Sounds like it's all but essential (and several places are doing a bundle with £150 off if you buy them together).

I physically can't go bigger than the 48 but it still feels like a big size upgrade compared to the old 40, sometimes i slide the sofa forward a bit to get in closer with gaming but it's not necessary. The sound is ok but if you can find a way to slot in a sound bar then do that too. No had any problems with it so far. If you watch a lot of TV it's well worth it. I don't even watch that much TV, mostly gaming and youtube but still no regrets at all. I did go down a HDTVTest rabbit hole and became OCD over trying to get the perfect settings but am over that now - (no more flicking between gamma 2.2 and 2.4 for 30 mins in a row).

C1 has been excellent for me, would recommend as long as you don’t watch in a really bright room. Was noticing darker than the old Samsung I binned off, but soon got used to it and my lounge is north facing so easy to make dark

On a similar note, does anyone have any tips on hdr settings? I was watching the football on Amazon last night and it was really dark, even with panel brightness and contrast set to 100 (cinema home mode). I know you are generally supposed to leave things like contrast enhancers off, but wondering whether it may be useful here? I know hdr is meant to look more natural, and a football match at night is going to be a bit darker, but it’s not pleasant to watch. Or should I just hdr off for things like that? Sorry if any of the above are stupid questions, I’m a bit of an hdr noob

I don't know the match, but have you tried other modes? Initially when I was getting used to the TV I used the vibrant mode or whatever its called as it seemed so much brighter. I take it you've not got an of the ambient light settings on and your room isn't bright? Are most things okay and was it just this one?
I can't see why contrast at 100 would help you that much, it should be set to give the best (clearest) picture depending on what you have the brightness set to.
Once I got used to it, I've tended to just let it (LG CX) do its thing (Aside from turning off all the auto stuff) and I've found it plenty bright enough. My CX is right beside a large window as well, but I have no problems with it. I intend to delve into the settings properly at some point and make sure I've not got anything significant wrong in there, but I assume you've checked Rtings etc to ensure you've got the basics right from a calibration perspective? If all else fails, there's the reset option, just in case something deep inside a sub menu is the problem.

Standard mode did seem brighter, but most guides tell you to avoid the standard / vivid settings and use cinema, although this may be different for HDR. I think I have most of the settings off, and the room was not too bright (just a small lamp on).
Maybe I'll try standard setting rather than cinema see how I get on.
To be fair, its a fairly cheap set (LG43UP75006LF) so it may be that it doesn't do HDR that well.

The thing about screens is, it only matters what you, the user, prefers.
There's a reason Standard and Vivid are first on the picture settings. There's a reason Samsung is so popular in both phones and TVs. There's cinephiles who want the most film accurate settings, which is what the reviews cater to. And there's the like 75% majority who just wants colors that pop. I personally switch between the Custom and Cinema Pro settings on my Sony TV, but I grew into that. At first, I preferred Standard with a Cool color temperature, not even Expert or Warm. Go with what looks good to you. But yes. When you first get an HDR screen, it will look like the colors are dimmer than you're used to, and that's normal. If Standard or Vivid look better to you, go with that. If you want to try the Cinema or Dolby or whatever settings, go for it, but know it'll take some time to adjust to. And if you accidentally switch back to Standard, you might question why you didn't just stick to that.

It's probably just a case of getting used to not having an LCD blind you! See if it's any different on the HDR iplayer nature stuff, which is always my reference for jaw-dropping stuff.

Standard mode on my OLED is way too bright and cartoony colourful. . I use Cinema and its fine.

Mine is semi-permanently stuck in game mode. Everything is attached to a separate HDMI switch in a cupboard so I only have to have one wire routed to the telly and I can never be bothered to find the big remote to change the picture pre-set, so I just leave it on the best all round one.

I noticed on my CX that whenever it detected Dolby Vision it switched to film mode and it looked like it had a weird sepia filter on it. Made Normal the default setting for DV and it’s fine now.

Filmmaker mode is an acquired taste that works best in a very dark room. It is supposedly the most accurate, but does often seem quite dull in normal conditions. I tend to use Cinema Home for HDR stuff and Expert Brightroom for everything else (except games).

Same here. Just tested the games last night and neither are playing in UHD/HDR, despite Leeds/Palace saying it should be. Dunno why.
