Not seen it either and tbh I've got nothing that could use it. However, it's something nice to have for if I do ever.

They are rumoured to be looking in to rolling it out for the x9 series. No reason not to as far as I understand.

Nope, usually the firmware on the CX prompts whenever it fancies it.
Not that I'm sure I'd notice the difference!

Apparently it's rolling out from Wednesday this week (13th) until the end of October. It always seems to take weeks/months between hearing about these updates and getting the OTA firmware. My guess is the very end of October, but I'm just going to forget about it for now. It'll be a nice surprise, and I'm just thankful LG are still adding great features to the CX.

Right, she ain’t happy but I think we have an agreement. New 55” Oled for living room, but the current 49” in the other room. If she can’t get used it, we’ll replace it with a cheap 43” for a few hundred quid. So basically I’ve upgraded my living room tv, which I’m happy with Question for you guys with LGs - does anyone have the B1 or do you all have C1? The B1 55 is the same price as the C1 48 and still seems to have hdmi 2.1 etc. The price is a sensitive part of this negotiation so saving a couple of hundred quid would really help me out!

That sounds like a great bit of negotiation! The B series just have a slightly slower processor I think.

Cool thanks. May save myself a couple of hundred there.
I’m actually wondering if there is a market for 2nd hand TVs. Mine is only a couple of years old. If I could sell that and get a 43” without it costing too much she’d probably be happy.

Not much of one I don't think. May get a hundred or two for it but I guess it depends on the model.

I’ve compromised slightly. Get a cheapish 43 for the new room, and upgrade the living room tv at a later date (probably next year when I eventually get my ps5). Then I don’t have to hear the moaning about the 49 being too big. She gets her way and I get my new tv when I’m ready. Everyone’s a winner.

You'll regret not going bigger in the new room, mark my words! (I also have this fight coming for the new open plan kitchen)

To be fair, if I’m leaving my PS in the living room I’m not really too bothered. Will just be for watching Netflix and maybe a bit of football. So should be fine I reckon.
When it comes to upgrading living room I might try to sneak up to a 60 (could easily go to that) but I’ll manage that at the time.

The B series are also significantly less bright, if memory serves, so HDR (which already isn’t OLED’s strong suit) is less impactful.
You’ll want to check, but memory tells me the B series is 350 nits to the A series’ 650 nits. Yer average LCD TV is > 1000 nits.

It’s curious how women are somehow genetically predisposed against any suggestion of getting a bigger screen, even when reminded that every TV has been progressively larger and you wouldn’t want to go back to the old 43”. Anyway, got a C1 65 coming, might go for a sound bar for the first time so what’s the benchmark system? Not looking for discreet speakers, just a single bar thing

Google or Alexa assistant built in and the new version supports Dolby Atmos. Probably not the best in its price bracket (£350 ish) but it has a relatively small footprint and sounds good enough for my ears

4k 43 inch TVs are actually brilliant. My qled ks8500 from 2017 still looks better than 90 percent of TVs. Why? It’s all about pixel density... Just sit a bit closer 😊
Saying that I’m moving house soon and I’m either getting a 55” LG oled or 55” qled neo with the mini leds. It’s a tough choice as both now cost the same....

Too high a pixel density has its own drawbacks though

LG OLED55G16LA LG OLED55C14LB LG OLED55B16LA LG OLED55A16LA G1 is the "best". Its wall mounted only and has the new Eco panel. Its the best picture quality out of the lot, it is less susceptible to burn in and brighter. C1 is your "standard" that people tend to get. It "may" have the Eco Panel, but you shouldn't enable it according to LG because of "reasons". The B1 has a slower processor and less features than the C1. The A1 is slower again. All are great TV's, but the motion processing in particular tends to suffer a bit in the lower spec. That's it in simple terms, if you want more detail then I can look it up as I can't recall the specifics.

I just went through the differences between G1 and C1, the G1 can get slightly brighter but it’s designed for wall mounting - thicker body so it’s all flat against the wall. That extra case probably allows better thermal efficiency hence the brighter output. You can buy a separate stand for the G1 if you aren’t wall mounting it, not included in the box.
C1 has the ultra thin top half and fatter bottom half that better for table mounting, costs a fair bit less, has the same electronics as the G1.
picture quality is essentially the same for both, apart from slightly brighter G1 thanks to the deeper chassis. You can hack the C1 to pump out the same brightness but LG would rather you didn’t and if your tv blows up you’re on your own
I went for the C1 as I’m putting it on a table, can’t stand wall mounted tvs

Vincent's latest video over on HDTV Test paints a rather worrying picture of Sony's VRR implementation on their TVs. For me, it more or less confirms my theory that Sony have hit a road block with that MediaTek chip they use in their HDMI 2.1 TVs.
Doubt it will affect adding VRR successfully to the PS5, but as others have said, they won't want to add tech to the PS5 that isn't present in their TVs.

I am really struggling trying to work out how effective the HDR on my Panasonic TX-40EX700B is. I've had it a few years and am not that convinced it displays HDR that well at all, I am not seeing a lot of dark areas or vibrant bright areas either. I feel a lot of my technology is due for an upgrade at the moment.

I feel a lot of my technology is due for an upgrade at the moment. I did a quick check for you and your tv can only manage 350 nits. Which is why your HDR is a bit pants (no brightness). You really need 1000 nits as minimum.

Well, there's a sliding scale on that right? Higher contrast ratios (OLEDs, FALD, Mini-LED, etc. etc.) give you more bang for your buck at lower nits. A good example being Choice of the Forum LG C9/CX/C1 series, which puts out about 650 nits or so and has decent enough HDR (albeit not as eye-searing as some of the Samsungs).
350 is never gonna cut it regardless of tech, fully agreed, but you don't always need 1000+.
