Just discovered you can start a new game of the GOTY edition aimed just at doing one of the DLC. It starts you appropriately levelled and presumably somewhere sensible for their stories. Anyone tried this? As I'm time limited and I've heard good things about the "do up the boneyard" approach to blood and wine I am tempted.

I haven't tried it that way, but Blood and Wine is a lovely place to spend gaming time in.

At one point I took all my armour off and just went for a swim in a lake. The sunny weather is rather lovely.

CD Projekt have confirmed they're working on the next Witcher game (obviously). Slightly less obviously, they're dropping REDengine and moving over to Unreal 5.

I think thats the best option overall, technology with a boatload of support and hopefully less performance issues and game breaking bugs.

That's interesting. A mature Ciri focused game could be good. Geralt has already retired to run his vineyard.

Given the different trajectories Ciri can take in 3, how would that work?

Yeah, unless they make one of the good endings canon or set it in her earlier years. The medallion in the teaser image is school of the cat, so could be a callback to the one Ciri had, or could just be someone totally new from that school.

I’d probably make the one where Ciri is a Witcher the canon ending, but then I’d probably want them to completely change how she played. She might be more likely to be a supporting character and could hire the new protagonist, could have Geralt cameo too. Could even have Geralt having to come out of retirement for one last two hundred jobs.

Given the different trajectories Ciri can take in 3, how would that work? Not entirely sure, I suppose I just like the idea of the player character being a sardonic fifty-something Ciri who's stopped running, fears nothing and begrudgingly does a bit of monster hunting. Maybe she starts a new school of Witchers or something? There have been very few middle-aged (or older) female leads in video games and I'd have thought it could be something that the writers could have fun with. An epic quest to visit Geralt at his vineyard to have a word with his carer.

Maybe they had Grove Street Games doing it.

I'm not sure how to read this. Am I assuming incorrectly that the work wasn't going as well as it should have been if it's been moved in-house, because that always seems to be the main reason.

Wasn't it the studio who got it running on switch behind the remaster? With a studio capable of that level of witchcraft you'd think it would be in good hands...

I get the impression CDPR have had a lot of internal realignment. Shifting GOG back to older games, deciding to more thoroughly embrace mobile and live service stuff, moving all their dev stuff to UE5 instead of their custom engine, etc. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is all part of that.

So just streamlining everything and keeping everything controlled as it were?

That's how I originally interpreted the news. However, CD Projekt Red announced the updated version of The Witcher 3 in September 2020, and Saber Interactive has been working on it in the meantime - indeed, the remaster was included in the list of stolen source codes when CDPR's servers were hacked over a year ago - so it seems kind of weird that they've only recently moved development in-house. After all, it's almost the middle of April, and the remaster was supposed to be out sometime between now and the end of June! (Granted, the move from Saber to CD Projekt could've happened longer ago than today's announcement makes it seem; still, they've left the news a bit late, considering people were hoping a release date would be announced in the near future.)

You would imagine they've being planning this and the move to UE5 since the fucked up release of Cyberpunk and the issue of every game being a completely new iteration of the Red Engine with essentially no crossover.

Don't think it's been mentioned but apparently it was the Russian office of Saber Interactive that was responsible for the Switch port as well as the next gen version. Think that may have a lot to do with things.

Ahhhhh... Right.
Perhaps not the right delay to get all entitled gamery on.

That, I did not know.
Nice detective work, Jambo - as our funky feline friend has implied, we may have to take this one on the chin.

Nah, I just noticed that every publication just copied and pasted each other it was Kotaku surprisingly of all which mentioned that and explained things rather than copying and pasting.

Also I'm pretty sure I just saw LexW posting on that particular article on Kotaku too. Gave 'em every barrel over there too.
