What's the over-under on when the "next-gen" (current-gen, really!) update to this game will be released?
Last I heard, CDPR was still claiming that they plan to put out PS5/XSX versions of TW3 and Cyberpunk before the year's out; however, with October fast approaching and a pretty packed release schedule ahead of us, I seriously doubt that'll happen. My guess is that at least one of them will slip into 2022.

Yeah, spring 2022 is my guess.

I'm inclined to agree... which is kind of a bummer, really, as I was looking forward to it. (Also, between Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West, I'll probably have had my fill of AAA open-world games by then.)
My last hope for a 2021 release is that they'll push it out in December to coincide with Season 2 of the Netflix series, but they're leaving it a bit late even then.

Even without a next gen upgrade I was playing the Blood and Wine DLC at the weekend on Series X and it seemed like a locked 4K60 in performance mode (from the One X patch). It was already leaps and bounds above the vanilla XBO/PS4 experience.
At this point though it probably is worth waiting for the next gen update, unless all the new bells and whistles end up in a 30fps mode

Never having played The Witcher 3 before, I really want to wait for the updated version (plus I feel mildly miffed, having to buy PS4 games almost a year into the PS5 era - "Play PS4 games on it", indeed!). #FirstWorldProblems

Got to wonder what they'll actually do. I doubt it will add that much extra, maybe bump it up to an equivalent of higher settings on the PC?

I was wondering too. Unless they introduce ray-traced lighting, I can't see it being much different than PC on max settings. Maybe console will finally get hairworks, which was always out of place to me since only Geralt and wolves actually benefited.

They’ve talked about ray tracing but not really sure it’ll be worth the wait. Especially considering how technically incompetent their devs seem to be, they’ve never had a release that wasn’t a complete shitshow to start.

They've definitely mentioned ray tracing, plus some Netflix-themed DLC (about which I couldn't personally care less, although I'm sure plenty of people are psyched for it); they've also got a prominent modder called Halk Hogan on board, so they can use his HD textures and whatnot in the update.
While I totally agree re. CDPR's incompetence, the port's actually being handled by Saber Interactive, who did the Switch version a couple of years ago.

Ha, unsurprising. I'm amazed to see the Cyberpunk patch due before W3 - time will tell.

They kind of have to though, don't they? When will their next thing come out otherwise? They'll have no income if they just abandon it completely.

There's still a solid core of idiots happy to hurl themselves in front of bullets for their beloved multi million dollar, cushy dividend paying video game developer.
I'm sure they will chuck out a minimum viable product job to meet their 'promise' and move on to the next thing. They are still another shitshow of a release away from scaring enough people away from their stuff for it to matter.

Didn't they only just reconfirm that the TW3 one would definitely be dropping this year?... Absolute shambles of a company!

Didn't they only just reconfirm that the TW3 one would definitely be dropping this year?... Absolute shambles of a company! It was strongly rumoured yesterday, following the news that PEGI had rated TW3 for current-gen consoles, but nothing was officially announced. (They're still an absolute shambles, mind.)

The irony of this being delayed to 2022 when the devs were telling management that Cyberpunk wouldn't be ready till 2022.

Ah, okay. I'm with you.
I think that article is a little misleading, as a delay was mooted during the Q&A section of that earnings call but not reported upon by Engadget; still, none of this changes the fact that CDPR is now, as you say, an absolute bloody shambles.
They've waited until two-thirds of the way through freakin' October to announce two delays that most people could see coming months ago, and the best they can offer as a consolation is one three-month "target" time frame for Cyberpunk and another for The Witcher 3.
It's frankly amazing to think that 12 months ago they were still the poster children of the AAA sphere - they'd just announced an impending PS5/Xbox Series reissue of The Witcher 3, one of the most highly-acclaimed games of recent times, and everyone expected Cyberpunk 2077 to be another modern masterpiece when it launched in December. Now they have all the innate trustworthiness and likeability of a mutant bastard cross between Andrew Wilson and Bobby Kotick.

Haha gamers are the most entitled I love it.
Cyberpunk definitely should not have been released on the ps4 and Xbox one and could have done with a delay on pc n new xonsoles. However it's a absolutely awesome game when it works. I had very little issues with it myself thankfully. A handful of crashes and some odd bugs here and there.
In fact most games of similar scope and scale have loads of bugs. Everyone likes to bitch and expect everything. I mean in 2077 case everyone was offered full refunds. In my case I got the ps4 version refunded due to its 15-20 FPS performance and purchased to super smooth and sexy series X version.

This is where I stopped playing the super smooth PS5 version. Fucking shambles of a game.

In what world was the Series X version super smooth? I binned it off after 2 patches with the same game crashing bug, not really interested in playing again until the update happens.

Also bonus points for the squadron of police that blinked into existence directly behind me when I stole the car at the end.

If you're delusional and see some sort of bizarre weakness in admitting something you were certain was going to be great is actually white dog shit in reality.

They've gone back to milking The Witcher with freemium mobile games, so I'm sure that'll tide them through to their next release. They did have paid DLC for The Witcher 3 though. Do they even have anything lined up for Cyberpunk? Perhaps they will reveal it when the update hits, but right now it doesn't seem likely, especially after the lukewarm reception. I heave heard rumors of free DLC and a complete reworking of the game, but that doesn't bring in a lot of money. As for the Witcher spinoffs, I don't think they did that well. Thronebreakers definitely did not, and I think Gwent and the digital board game were also underwhelming. So if I were them, I wouldn't count on that stuff for revenue.
