Code Veronica is crying out for a remake but it'd be a mammoth task for probably very little return.
I've absolutely no interest in them remaking RE1 in the style of RE4/RE2 Remake as rumoured. The original REmake is nigh-on perfect as is.

Code Veronica has a lot of bad bits but I don't a remake would do well. They could do a proper remaster and change the bad bits but capcom rarely do this . RE1 remake HD had improvements but all older games do need these updates to fix bad or rough gameplay parts.
It looks like a lot of the RE games will be in the xbox spring sale when it goes live as someone on TA can look at the store data, so you buy Operation Raccoon City if you hate your free time and games
Revelations games where quite good but 2 didn't have that polish and 1 was limited due to made for the DS

I still haven’t played them all, but I’d have to rank those I have as follows.
Resident Evil 2 Remake Resident Evil 4 Resident Evil 4 Remake Resident Evil Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil Revelations Code Veronica Resident Evil: Village Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil 5
I never finished the original 3rd game and I barely started the remake of the original. I haven’t played the remake of 3, or Resident Evil 6, or Zero, or Revelations 2 for that matter. So a pretty patchy list all round.
I was there on day one though. Just my hunger for these games isn’t quite as strong as the most hardcore fans.

The RE1 remake is my favourite one. Even when the mansion is empty its so creepy. I like that it has down time in it too, not just constant monsters or being stalked. I know people talk about some of the puzzles being very silly and impractical for the building to be a functional workplace but I think RE1 (either version) is underrated as a puzzle/exploration game. Its still really neat how as well as individual puzzles the entire places grows and unlocks as you play so that you spiral around the location learning and relearning how to navigate it. The architecture is more conventional and much smaller but it is similar to how Dark Souls locations unwound before you as you beat bosses or open up new routes and that’s something that gets missed in the later games. As much as I love them you never quite get the time to live in a location as much as you do with the mansion.
I think REmake is about 10-12hrs on HowLongToBeat and its nearly all in one place when even the police station is part of a game where each scenario is under 6 so you’re maybe only there half that time. You do spend more time in RE4’s locations but they most feel like places you’re passing through, even when you occasionally revisit parts of the map, due to the constant forward motion of chasing Ashley.

Resident Evil 5 DLC Lost in nightmares is actually better the main game. It should of had old style zombies.

I have finally finished Resi 2 this afternoon as Claire. My second time through the game (last played 4 years ago) and I got a C rank ! I took 9 hours because I have to pick everything up and turn every room blue. I finished the game with countless spare ammo and herbs. What a waste!
I do love this game. So much so I’ve decided to try the 2nd campaign of Leon, just for an excuse to carry on with it. This was meant to be a stepping stone to play the 3 remake, but I’m compelled to squeeze a bit more out of this one!
I do have one complaint about the game though (which I suppose it can be levied at the series as a whole). The boss battles are pretty rubbish. I didn’t get stuck on a single one, but they’re all pretty basic. Only the first one (with some very basic hide and seek) plays into the strength of the games mechanics, but goes on too long. The rest of them just involve going heavy on the bosses whilst trying to dodge the kinds of attacks that can sometimes point towards your character as you move.
They are nowhere near as bad as the ones from 7, which are amongst the worst in gaming, but it’s clear Capcom have never really known how to go about them in these games.
In my humble opinion of course.

I thought the boss battles in RE7 were good, the Marguerite one is especially good
I think it’s only the last one that is ‘Bad’ as such as you just unload everything you have, the others have a skill element

Is Marguerite the hide and seek one? Because that’s great, actually. It’s every single other one that’s just a series of events or stepping around oncoming attacks.

Actually, that one boss in the morgue with the chainsaw? That made me throw a little temper tantrum. Took me many impatient attempts.

For me, Resi boss battles are almost interactive cutscenes and an excuse to throw some really imaginative horrendous monstrous creation on the screen. I have very little recollection of how the boss battles panned out, but many of the bosses themselves are very memorable.

Off the top of my head most of them are just running in circles until you get an opportunity to pump shotgun shells, grenade rounds or magnum bullets into them (depending how late into the game it is). But like Tomo says, the creature designs themselves are mostly excellent.

The Resi 4 bosses and by extension the Resi 4 Remake bosses are even better.

I’m gonna flip the conversation yet again and go back to RE2 Remake. I’m only a couple of hours into the second campaign, but it starts off pretty different. Different enough that I still pooped myself when Mr X decided to greet me for the first time at a completely random corner on the opposite side of the station.

It’s different enough to make it interesting, for sure. They add some nasty enemies in places you wouldn’t expect it from the 1st run, especially if you’re trying to run it quickly.
Never played the original RE2, but I think Claire could find a weapon and store it in A so it was available for Leon in B. Pity they didn’t do a couple of things like that in the remake, but it’s a very strong game regardless.

Yeah the A and B scenarios are slightly more distinct from each other and interwoven on PS1 in terms of story and puzzles but its well worth playing all four scenarios in the remake. There is a spot in PS1 Scenario A where you can choose to pick up a submachine gun or inventory expansion but if you take either or both they won’t be available in Scenario B.
I can’t remember if the locker room in the remake does something similar but maybe just with ammo.
Both versions of RE2 fall into that category of things where I can’t just dip in. If I play it I’m doing it all four ways, same as if I play RE1 I’m doing both characters or rewatching something like Spaced inevitably leads to me doing all three films too.

There’s a good chance I’m just being wasteful, but there appears to be less ammo for the “2nd Run” campaigns. At least with Leon. I just did a whole chunk of the sewers (getting the flamethrower) with just 2 flash bangs and absolutely no ammo. I’ve also only had 2 or 3 knives, which is my weapon of choice for clickers.
Somehow I have made it to the lab in four hours The police station felt much shorter this time around, but the sewers seemed exactly the same as before. I’m sure there must be a few surprises up ahead though.

I'm not sure about ammo but there is some cross over between scenarios.

All this RE talk has encouraged me to fire them up again. RE4R on the living room PS5 first, was on stage 15 Professional when I loaded it, as I’ve got lots of beefed up weapons ‘‘twas a doddle Then went upstairs to the PS4 and loaded up RE5, I’ve got S ranks on nearly every stage with a few missing on Professional so I thought I’d do them. Did the Mines one pretty easy, plays like a dream considering I’ve not played it for a while. Missed on the on rails one, which I don’t really like, and went to the boat one - Marshlands? I think Kept going to the first area after the initial slate piece, as soon as the baddies appeared YOU ARE DEAD from one hit without getting control back. Reload, same thing, same area but YOUR PARTNER IS DEAD, without even getting control back. You can’t even heal them, it’s brutal I got all the S ranks on PS3 and 360 back in the day but I must have had more patience then

retro74 Did you ever play The Mercenaries on 3DS? I know folk laughed at the idea of a £35 ‘bonus mode’ game, but it was so good. It had maps from both RE 4 and 5 and would often mix things up with different weapon load outs and spawn locations as you progressed. Also, there is something about high scores in games. Especially Resident Evil ones with their ranks.

I did yes, I actually bought it new from the local Morrisons (it’s a mostly northern supermarket for those not in the UK) for £3 Only played it a few times but still got it somewhere. The only Mercenaries I played a bunch was the RE4 version to unlock the Handcannon, which I did on several different versions

Just finished the second run this morning (another rank C…). Man, Sherry is so unintentionally funny at the very end. Dialogue that is true to form for the series.

I think it's more scenario changes, like if you do something to Plant 43 in Scenario A, you get harder enemies in Scenario B. Stuff like that. My memory is a little hazy.

Carried on with RE5 a bit trying to do the S ranks on Professional, only managed to do a couple more, have 9 out of 16 I think
Bloody hell it’s a lot more brutal than I remember. One level where you start on a boat I literally loaded it up and ‘died’ immediately 3 times in a row without getting control of my character. Often you just end up in a loop of saving each other from death until the inevitable death happens
Left the online setting open yesterday (possibly a mistake?) and it was absolute carnage, made no progress whatsoever, with deaths constantly. As soon as I went back to solo I completed a level first attempt
Might take me a month this

Sounds like fun!
I’m trying to do the 4th Survivor mode in Resi 2 and it’s really a case of pattern memorisation, unfortunately. Learn which zombies to ignore, which ones need to be knee-capped, where to use a grenade or flash bang, etc…
It’ll be nice to have it done, but even at 5 minutes it’s feels like an endurance test.

That’s a heart pounding test Dave. I did it for the platinum, and followed a walkthrough, but there’s always a RNG element. When you’re on fumes at the end and you’ve got a path with ivy zombies, one grab and it’s back to the start…
Good luck. 👍

Started 4 remake again today and am currently, I assume, at or near the end of chapter 4. This is a mega, mega game. Completely addicted to the loot and vendor stuff which adds a gamey but fun dimension to it all. I’ll be f*cked though if this stained glass puzzle in the church isn’t bugged. I’ve made to my eye as close to perfection an alignment as possible but it just will not click.
