I haven't had to do that on pc so may be your mod. Looks pretty good on pc tbh for the most part with a few textures here and there that could do with improving.

Yeah, the inconsistency of the dodge move is a bit weird. Button prompt seems to pop up randomly, but why didn't it do that a minute ago in a similar situation... Making my way through the island and the difficulty has definitely ramped up. Proper shat myself when the burning guy bursts through a door... Fucker always made me jump back in the day too.

What? It's harder?!

Harder compared to the rest of the game I mean, not Vs the old one. Just loads more annoying shield carrying/armoured enemies. Mainly one specific encounter that nearly had me reaching for the lower difficulty mode.

I'll just rely on my case full of grenades.

One thing I'd like in this (unless I've missed it?) is to be able to switch shoulder whilst you aim. Aiming around corners to the left is quite unnerving when you can't switch to having the right shoulder forward, half your view is obscured. Anyway, I'm in the castle now and loving it here! I knifed a blade handed Garrador to death earlier and even got a trophy for my trouble, though I was bricking it throughout that.

I won't lie I was totally on edge for that and couldn't imagine doing that. Maybe for another playthrough.

I can imagine, but that specific example is where I think this game surpasses the original because it feels waaaaaaay more tense than the original. They've looked at these amazing setpieces and thought how can we keep people who've obsessively played this game on their toes and to keep their experience free of flab and more in line with the more serious tone of the remakes.

Plus one for a dodge move. I keep instinctively mashing circle as if it will make me sidestep.

I want to say yes but I can’t remember if that was just a playground rumour on forums at the time or not

Is this as great if you haven't played the original? Most of you are loving it but apart from Starchild (who doesn't seem that enamoured) you all seem to know it like the backs of your hands and are wallowing in beautiful, rose-tinted nostalgia.

I‘ve played it once, on the Wii, ages ago. I did like it at the time, a lot, but I don‘t think I have any particularly nostalgic feeling towards it. I’ve bought it because I generally enjoy all RE games and remakes lately. I find it a genuinely brilliant game, with a great setting, cool setpieces, great shooting mechanics, lots of cool little touches, secrets, etc. I personally find it significantly better than Biohazard, Village, and the two remakes, and I enjoyed all of them. Have you tried the demo?

Yeah - it didn't grab me that much to be honest. And the RE2 remake (my first RE) is one of my favourite games of last gen.

I think the demo is ok but it really doesn't give you the full taste of what the game is like. While I am nostalgic for the OG, this version is as stunning in its own right. Plus it's refreshing to have a tightly paced 3rd person linear game that isn't open world.

I disagree, the first time you do the village sequence, it can feel claustrophobic and not very fun. It's much better when you're comfortable with the mechanics. As a first real challenge it is a lot particularly if you have no knowledge of the original.
I enjoyed it a lot more going through it in the game proper myself as opposed to the demo and I have played the original a couple of times.

Not sure I agree with that, it's the beginning of the game, anyway, after all, but there's only one way to find out, I am sure we can agree: monkman needs to buy the game.

To be fair I don't think I got as far as the actual setpiece as it just felt a bit crappy to control and didn't look very pretty, especially up against my expectations from the RE2 remake. Also to be fair I had just got my PSVR2 and didn't want to waste too much time on Gaming 1.0.

I've got choice paralysis on what gun to upgrade.
There's definitely another shotgun later on isn't there?

Also to be fair I had just got my PSVR2 and didn't want to waste too much time on Gaming 1.0. That was always my bugbear with RE4. Too many action oriented setpieces with a control scheme and responsiveness that hinders more than it helps. From what I played of the demo they hadn't improved it to the point where these moments would actually be enjoyable.

Think there were three shotguns in the original.
Anyone know if other pistols are a bit more viable this time or is the Red9 still the top dog?

I think technically it's still the best in power output but my heart has always been with the Blacktail, I think it has the fastest fire rate and now that I have the exclusive upgrade that improves the damage by 1.5 it just makes mincemeat of most fodder. And yes there are still 3 shotguns.
