That being said the other one wasn't exactly good for the old nerves.

Finished the castle section now at something like 12 hours played, as I've been dawdling a fair bit. I was a little disappointed to not have a giant statue chasing after me. Salazar was a bit of a bastard of a boss thanks to that instakill bite move. For some reason he carried on going after 3 eye stabs a few times. Finally got some magnum ammo on the final attempt which made the fight nice and short. Cracking stuff, and I'm already looking forward to another playthrough with upgraded guns (just got the Killer 7)

room with two sharp individuals? That one was absolutely nuts. Had to take a breather to calm down afterwards. I'll be packing a bolt gun for that next run through! Although it was quite funny headshotting a cultist and then running away and watching him get sliced up If you go back later there's a different group of enemies which kicked my ass too. Thought they must be hiding something nice, but nope, just a golden chicken egg.

Up to Chapter 9. Think that's all my heart can take for one day. Think I'm up to 13 hours, seeing reports of 6 for the entire game is mind boggling to me. Must have been a repeat playthough surely.

The elevator in chapter 10 can get in the fucking sea.

Today I discovered that RE2 has adaptive difficulty. That might explain why, after playing in a conservative way and saving up lots of healing items, zombies now take 5-6 headshots to take down. And whew, I had forgotten how much of a pain Mr. X is when I'm just trying to solve puzzles.
I think it's easier to pull a critical headshot if I aim for a long time before shooting, right?

Unfortunately not, headshot has a multiplier but it's all RNG as to whether you get a critical.

I think it's safe to say that this is already GOTY contender for me already.

Yeah, for me as well. I am actually surprised just *how* much I love it. I did like RE4 a lot at the time when I played the Wii version, don't get me wrong, but this time I am downright blown away by the strength of the setpieces, the combat, the atmosphere. Playing it last night with 3D audio through headphones, and it was one of the most tense gaming experiences I've had, period.
But like I said earlier, I have found and still find the Spanish villagers with their prayers and pitchforks a lot more disturbing than any standard zombie could ever be.

Aye, easy early contender for GOTY here too. Although I got to the island last night and felt my first "I can't be arsed with this bit" feeling and turned it off for the night. I'll probably rush through a lot of this section after taking my sweet time with it so far. Absolutely stunning skybox, though.

Mentioned earlier in the thread I think but the most impressive thing is the number of 'set pieces'/'my fucking god' moments. It's really creative and doesn't let up (not into the third area yet though and a little worried as this comes from that era where the final third of games was just grey corridors and armoured enemies).
Played through chapter 10 and 11 last night and there were more incredible moments than in the whole of Dead Space.
Also helps that the combat is sublime - worst demo for replicating the full experience maybe ever.

Took me far longer than it should have done, to do the marble door puzzle. Fucks sake.

So the big fight with *that guy* half an hour in, is it just a case of running away for as long as possible before something triggers? Died twice last night before turning it off. Wasn't sure if I needed to slay enemies or just avoid. Bastard hard in either case

He isn't too bad, running away and get some shotgun shots is key.

I just ran away in the demo and this. After a certain amount of time that section abruptly ends.
Think I always used to just kill him back in the day, but I was still getting used to the controls in this and didn't want to waste ammo. Worth mentioning that you can go upstairs in one of the houses and there's a shotgun on the wall, which is fairly essential if you want to try killing him. He's getting a magnum shot in the face on my next playthrough!

ok as long as you have a gun that can reach that far at that point!
Saying that - that's exactly the stuff I look for though!

It's in the biggest house on the upper left hand side as you walk into the village, going into the area triggers a cutscene and you go upstairs and it's directly facing you as go up the stairs hanging on the wall. There's also a grenade in the cabinet next to it and shotgun rounds on the bed by the window.

I look forward to Ada's voice actor sounding thoroughly bored in that too... Can't see it being free, despite it being a bit bloody cheeky to charge for it.

Only a few hours in - just reached the quarry and like pretty much all of you lot, loving it. Really like how they have modernised the combat, The knife parry’s, ability to stealth some enemies, the bolt gun etc all on top of the originals excellent combat and strategy, it’s Top stuff. Glad that element of switching between weapons and using the best tool for the moment hasn’t been lost.
So far my playthrough has been ‘’this is cool. Oh shit there’s a so and so here isn’t there? Fuck”
Not normally a graphics snob, and not having played the demo I’m quite surprised how rough it looks though, especially considering how ducking amazing 2remake looked. It looks like the resolution is 720p or something. It’s odd. What’s up with that?
Otherwise loving it

If you’re on PS5, turn off the lens effects, they’re bugged.

I believe it may be a bug as Capcom have verified that they are aware of some visual bugs on the PS5 and are working on a patch. Methinks they have separate QA teams for each version which would explain why no one picked up these glaring bugs like the ray tracing being fucked or the hair effects not being lit properly on the Xbox or PS5 but working well on the PC.

It looks pretty fugly on Xbox too tbh. They seem to forgotten about textures. I think the general brown-ness of the opening section doesn’t help.
As someone with no real history with this game, the gameplay feels like it should have a dodge button somewhere, but someone forgot to add it in.

yes, i kept expecting to hit a dodge button at times
didn't like the sudden changes in lighting moving from outside to things like caves either...felt very jarring
overall, a great remake of a great game, though, i enjoyed it

One other thing, I found I had to go through the HDR brightness options every time I started the game on PC otherwise it’d be way too dark. That might have been the mod I used for proper ultrawide FOV support though.
