I am making glacial progress in this. I simply can not help trying to find every shiny object I can get my hands on.

Gah, I just keep stepping on those damn beartraps... Literally one after the other! If they were in a straight bloody line I'd probably stumble poor Leon into them all somehow 😅. It's like a violent version of a Benny Hill sketch!

Just had a quick skim through the achievements list. Somehow doubt I'll be going for 1000gs in this one... Jesus! I'll be lucky to even make it through the game without dropping the difficulty down.
On to chapter 9 now and feel like maybe I should be rationing it a bit instead of ploughing through it all this weekend... Nah, sod that!

I'm about two thirds through this now, and it's just been great all the way through. I picked the 'ray tracing' preset and put the texture mapping up to the 3GB setting and on my 3080 it has run great at 3440x1440/FSR2 quality with no further adjustments adie fron turning those stupid lens effects off.
I really appreciate the fact they haven't pulled back on Leon's cheesy one-liners, or his preference for just opening fire on an enemy in a cutscene (though it's usually not that effective). Great fun and it really nails what made the original really entertaining, which is the semi-auto rifle: you just burst heads and as long as you haven't 'alerted' the area you can just keep doing it with no consequence. It was fantastic on Gamecube with that weird half-built thing they called a controller, and it's fantastic on a keyboard and mouse.

You can get the red 9 when you open up traversal on the lake. It's on the shipwreck in the middle. Just got this, thanks for the heads up dfunked! I just need to tune it a bit now.

What difficulty did people start on? I read the descriptions and stupidly believed it, but on hardcore there’s just not remotely enough ammunition. Being unable to buy it from the merchant has thrown out my whole strategy. Which is “kill everyone”
***edit*** I posted this when I was stuck at the village battle (after you get Ashley) with the extra enemy mission added in, and pretty much all I had was a grenade and pocket lint. Took a while and a lot of crowd management and cheesing, but managed to kill everyone and get all the treasure and items. Just finished the cabin battle, where thankfully they throw a ton of resources at you finally.

I ignored the description and went for the middle difficulty option, and I'm glad I did. Some of the tankier enemies must be a nightmare to take down! As it is I almost completely ran out of ammo on chapter 8.

Also let's think about that someone may have not played this and be a bit careful with the spoilers please.
Might be a remake for you but it's not for others.

I also believed the description and started on hardcore. So far I‘ve found it quite challenging, in a good way, but I am only in chapter 4. I can easily imagine getting stuck on a difficulty spike at one point.

I started on the middle difficulty and it's been perfectly balanced so far. I finished the original RE4 backwards and forwards on every difficulty and this feels much more dangerous minute-to-minute to me. That being said after finishing it a few times it'll probably end up feeling about the same.
Can see this being one I replay over and over to get that time down/all trophies etc. Early GotY contender for me, it's absolute quality.

Yeah that difficulty descriptor is bullshit, I went for the standard difficulty and it's handed me my ass more than a few times.

I'm probably not picking this up for a while, so now I have to choose whether to play RE4 for the first time in ages, or restart the RE2 remake.

Yeah that difficulty descriptor is bullshit, I went for the standard difficulty and it's handed me my ass more than a few times. I too was dubious about selecting the highest 'for players who've previously played Resident Evil 4 (2005)' option, as I hadn't played that for many a year anyway. I'm glad I went for the standard difficulty as it has been tough going at times.

Has anyone fiddled with the aiming to make it less shit and if so what settings? Loving this so far but I'm whiffing a lot of shots because Leon seemingly has arms made of lead. I've sent a screenshot to your ps account. Can I have a copy of that screenshot too?

Village done. The post-farmhouse section between that and the castle always felt a bit meandering to me in the original, so the way they streamlined the best parts there was excellent I thought.

It's like a violent version of a Benny Hill sketch! Exact same, they do a good job hiding them. Beginning of chapter 3 Leon rescues the wolf, "Take care of yourself buddy". I resume control one step aside and I get caught in another bear trap! . It's meant to be a horror game, but when I play it you would think it is a comedy.

Haha I remember seeing a bear trap as I was running and it was like driving and you see a pothole but you know you can't move in time.
Snap.

Even though I can hear them beeping, I've walked through a frankly embarrassing amount of C4 trip mines in this.

I'm biding my time and going through RE2 remake again, this time starting from Leon A. It's a pretty different game from RE4, despite the similar camera. Wish I could roundhouse the zombies.
I noticed that I have a bunch of super weapons in the stash, including an unbreakable knife. That sounds cool, but... nah, let's keep it as it should be for now. Maybe next time I'll play again with that infinite SMG and rocket launcher.

That fucking room in the castle. I did not need that. Room with water, red room with exploding heads or room with two sharp individuals? Because they all stressed the fuck out of me.
