It was the first one that got me. As soon as I saw that fmv footage on the ps1, and then the mansion (and I fucking *love* spooky mansions), that was it.
But yeah, fatal frame/project zeros - that's when the goosebumps happen.

I'll wait till more people have played this, but the...er..neck thing is also quite unsettling

Damn, I was always going to buy this at some point, but The Digital Foundry video they uploaded an hour ago means it will probably happen sooner rather than later. Possibly today...

Not spoilery stuff - it looks really nice. Leon moves well, combat is good. Reload sounds come through the controller and it gives it a bit more of a slick feel to the whole combat experience. You can choose framerate or performance. I've gone framerate. It supports hdr and raytracing too. You can select your sound outputs too - TV, headphones, home theater etc.
Same plot, just different approaches to certain bits, shall we say.

The first time I saw Leons head get taken off by a chainsaw was when I went and bought this.
Got the game plus a Gamecube for like £60 at argos who used the game as a chance to finally clear some hardware stock.

Resi 4 was my first imported game because it was that weird time where games didn't have global launches so I got the Canadian version running off Freeloader on my GameCube. It's interesting because I wasn't really into Resi until I bought Resi 1 Remake for the GC and then I wanted more.

How many headshots to take them down on normal? Only 3 but that translates to 20 seconds gameplay due to the controls

Only needed 10 minutes of the demo to know I definitely want this. Just trying to justfy spending full price on it, or being patient and waiting until later in the year for a discount.

You could be dead by then, buy the game and enjoy it now.

You probably won't be but it's best not to take risks.

Pc player not caring about horror? Good lord, alone in the dark would like to have a word with you, young man! Have you seen my username? I didn't pick up Alone in the Dark until quite a long time later, and it was already retrogaming by then! Though I did play the AITD4 demo. Thought it was ass. Maybe that colored my perception of console-style survival horrors for longer than it should have.

I remember "telephoning" my mates to come see this game where you could shoot a zombie with a shotgun...

Absolutely loving it so far. Got to the church and making my way to the lake now. Hasn't deviated from the original massively so far, but has a few nice twists to keep things fresh.

The main thing I loved about RE4 was, the first time I played, it was all a genuine surprise. “There’s something wrong with the villagers” was all they told you. When that first time the plagas pops out the guys head, it was a genuine What. The. Fuck. moment. In this version, the very first guy you meet is obviously a magical monsterman. I had thought this when trying the demo, remembering it being a lot later until you found out what was up with the villagers. My last play was on launch on GC which was impressive at the time. Kept meaning to play a later port, such as Wii, for the extra campaign that GC missed. Does this have it?

Well fuck, this is something special. I'm not used to such aggressive enemies in a Resi game and it's taking some time to get used to but in a very good way. One thing I've already noticed is that this game satiates my incessant need to go off the main route in games and constantly rewards me for it.

I’m wondering if we should come up with a “recommended settings” list. That DF review out today seems to have a bunch of suggestions, like turn off magic hair or something. Someone said turn off controller acceleration, whatever that is. My brain instantly rejects and forgets technical terms but the aiming definitely seems a struggle against the new pace of the enemies.

I'm also sort of hating and loving the combat in a ammo way. No matter what I try to hoard, it's always *just enough* to sort it sometimes. Hate the tenseness but love the reward

I found a spot that may have been infinitely spawning enemies (just after you first meet the merchant). I ran out of ammo and left, but really wanted to see if there was an end to them, because there was in the original.

The weird canyon village bit? Yeah, they didn't seem to stop coming there. I've noticed the grenade and Molotov enemies are fucking incessant in this, could do with being toned down a bit. Always so damn satisfying to shoot a lit grenade in their hands, though.
Up to the church bit proper now and I've fully upgraded the starting handgun aside from the final upgrade (which apparently gives 5x crit damage). Money is nice and easy to come by in this, and I've been crossing off most of the quests as I go along. Loving it so far!

One thing I consider sacrilege is that upgrading the ammo capacity of a weapon doesn’t give you any ammo. I was so shocked I did it a second time to make sure. Wasted a lot of money.

Yeah, that's annoying. Loved that it gave you a full clip in the dead space remake. Makes planning upgrades quite fun.
