That's true but this is just one step too far. It puts it on the same shelf as 5 and 6 with it's silly roundhouses and minecart chases. Callisto Protocol would have been made instantly better with a roundhouse. That stings man. That stings.

In fact I would have taken a CV remake over this, and that's fucking silly as well.
Come at me.

10/10 ratings from IGN, GameSpot, and Push Square. Hope those of you who plan to buy it have a great time! You not buyin'? It will literally be in the next 100 PSN sales, so I'm not either.

JambowayohShameful gaming confession: I've never actually played a Resident Evil game. I reckon I'd start with 7, or maybe the remake of 2, were I to go down that route; as things stand, I'm planning to start The Witcher 3 this evening, so it'll be a while before I'm in the market for anything else to play! I know the RE4 remake was hotly anticipated, though, and I'm glad to see how well it has been received by the critics. The 2 Remake and 7 are both perfect jumping on points. As much as I love the remake of 1 and its one of my all time favourite games, it is 20 years old itself now and plays like it.

I don't get the hate with CV, but then I haven't played it since I did on the Dreamcast.

I don't get the hate with CV, but then I haven't played it since I did on the Dreamcast. I just found it to be a slog and for me the point where the core gameplay had was scraping the barrel more centred around the endless backtracking especially near the end. Bosses were cool but the well had run dry before this game came out.

I always had it as an epically long game from the time I spent with it on the dreamcast but when I replayed it, it turns out its only about ten hours and just a bit boring.

Gameplay has never been a strong point of the RE games to be fair, none of them have played anything more than ok. That doesn't make them bad games but they do get a lot of leeway that other games don't.

7 is the only one I'd rate above "pretty good"

I last played CV on 360 and it had dated horribly. The survival horror gameplay didn’t transfer very well into ugly, janky (not even that) early 3D, the UI is super clunky and the story is tipping into anime silliness after the relatively straight PS1 trilogy.

To be fair I loved it on the DC but tried to play through it again recently and got as far as Chris faffing about on the arctic base and I binned it as was so monumentally bored by that point.

I think it would actually benefit from a quality remake. Theres good stuff in there and stuff you could trim but I dunno if it would be popular enough or have enough content left to really justify it.

Just over £31 when the currency is converted, if you're a Turkey PSN Store pre-order fiend like me.

But no one in the original trilogy has Matrix bullet time powers, is a transvestite living as both brother and sister, or has built an exact replica of the mansion in Antartica.
Yes there’s a degree of camp to the delivery of the PS1 games but plotwise its hidden lab accidentally releases bad disease. Its all scientists and evil businesses not the jump to the heightened nonsense CV and 4 introduced (midget Napoleon, army of insectoid monks, etc)
Not that those are terrible games but they definitely play it less straight than the originals.
The opera singing slug man in 0 is quite daft as well. There was obviously something going on at Capcom in the early 2000s.

massive regenerating zombie armed with a rocket launcher and shouts STARS, giant mutated alligator that chases you in a sewer and a giant snake just chilling in a mansion. All totally straight, normal things. Not ridiculous at all.

I think RE1 is the most straight out the lot. Dialogue is more hammy than anime levels and the giant reptiles and insects are in keeping with the way the virus is established to work. 2 as well is pretty straight up. It's only 3 onwards things start to get a bit weeeeee.

It got crazier as the tech improved as well. Sure they would have had more crazy if they could at the time.

Give me the ridiculous RE4 over po-faced 'serious' horror games like RE1 and Dead Space any day of the week.

It must be a staple of survival horror in general. Alone in the Dark had a big suit of armor that you could kill by throwing a statue at it, a pirate that you had to sword duel, an indian painting that shot arrows at you, a spider with a mouse head, and so forth.
And then AITD2 was basically a Resident Evil prototype... if the zombies had tommy guns.
