I’ve found the side content in DSR detract from the otherwise constant sense of urgency the game tries to instill. “Oh shit! We’re crashing into the planet! Oh shit! Meteors! Hull at 50%! Oh shit! Air is running out!” Hey let’s backtrack to find out the regenerator’s backstory. “The fuck you doing Isaac! Obliteration imminent!” Some tasty audio logs have spawned in tho.

Unlockable Leon skin Aside - has any Resi unlockable skin, in any game, not been shite? Maybe RE2 on the PS1 but is that it? Couple of times I’ve used Leon’s cop outfit in RE4 just for the bit where Luis says “I wouldn’t have picked you for a cop” and Leon just looks at him. |

The rain does look shit though. The graphics in the game informer video looked a bit worse than the re2 remake as well but that may be because they were using ps5 footage.

I know things can get overtly negative sometimes but I don't think commenting on sidequests, graphical effects and the like on the remake in this thread has drifted there yet - it's just speculation more than anything. |

I already think Resi 4 is a bit baggy so adding extra might be a mistake but then since moving to the RE Engine with 7 they’ve not made a bad main series game so I’ve got faith they won’t fuck it up now

Eh, you were all being overly negative when it was mentioned there were sidequests. I read it as just discussing the need for sidequests in an already fairly large game. I put forward more examples of games where sidequests are done well but in general I do think sidequests tend to be a bit undercooked across the board for most games. I love RE4 and count it as one of my favourite ever games, just a bit unsure what sidequests will add and worry they'll take away (if anything). Don't think it's overly negative to have that discussion but to each their own I guess. |

There were people definitely implying they added sidequests to compensate for removing parts of the game even though there's been no evidence of this. But it doesn't matter the recent video already highlighted the type of sidequests there will be. But I'm again I'm always confused at the comment that sidequests take away from a game because the whole point is they're optional, they don't take away anything if you don't participate.

Others were 'being negative' about the knife durability and hoping the island gets cut, not sure why the sidequest discussion is getting singled out.

Has anyone played RE:0 recently? I downloaded it for a few quid to give it a go.
I played it on the Gamecube as a kid and had to use infinite health and ammo cheats to beat it. Is it actually really hard or was I just shit?

I played it last year for the first time ever, despite buying it for the GC when it came out and never getting around to it. Was easier than RE:1 and I actually really liked it.

I actually quite like zero as well, the inventory stuff is shit, but it has some great locations, the train for the first quarter is amazing.

I have just got around to finally finishing a route on REmake HD despite having owned it since GC release. Only done Jill on easy though as wasn't fully up for normal yet (turned out to be too easy but hey...). Had just done a Leon A Claire 2ndB on RE2 Remake and a run-through of Nemesis, both on normal, with a plan to choose between a Chris run (inventory space is what puts me off) or to play through 0 properly (played about halfway on GC IIRC, don't remember which difficulty).
Not sure about 4 Remake yet, will see how feedback is. I did enjoy original 4 on GC release and finished it. Don't remember the Island section at all though... Still need to get around to buying Village, and decide if the Gold Edition is worth it (especially as the physical is just base game and a DLC code...)

I’m the opposite, I always thought no one liked it until seeing the apologists here and at the old place.Its early 3d environments* probably make it the most dated play experience in the series now too. Definitely needs a polish or upgrade of some kind.
*not actually that early but it really feels it

CV is another I never played too far in. Not sure what format is best to play through, original DC, or one of the X updates such as GC or the PS4 HD release (basically emulated PS2 version IIRC)

I'm partial to the original Dreamcast release, but if you're going to play the X version, play it on a 360 or PS3. The 360 version is backwards compatible, but yeah, the HD Editions were cleaned up. As you said, the PS4 version is just the PS2 ISO emulated, so it looks worse than the previous gen versions.
