That's me into the factory now. I do like the factory.
Actually missed so much on my first playthrough. Found one of those huge fuckers up near the fallow field and put him down, and I've definitely found some treasure that I missed last time.
I'm not sure but this might be my favourite RE now. It's so bloody good. Jury is still out on the 3rd person mode though. Honestly think I prefer the immediacy of 1st.

What?! The factory was a massive slog and probably my least favourite bit. It felt twice as long as it should've been.
I should probably give this another run through too. Thoroughly enjoyed it despite that section.
RE4 is still the best in my head, but it really didn't click with me when I tried it recently. Rose (heh) tinted glasses I suppose. This is probably my favourite that I've actually played through in the past decade.

I can see how the factory would be a bit divise. I just loved how dark and oppresive it was. I really liked the enemies in there as well as the soundtrack.
That said. I've just started it so my opinion may very well change as I might be misremembering it.

Ethan even makes a comment about the factory going on forever. I like it though, I'm sure it reminded me of something at the time that I can't remember now. And thinking back to my previous post, I'd put the village itself first or second as favourite area.
REmake 2 would be my shout for favourite recent RE

Yeah that actual village is bloody superb. Love the lavishness of the castle as well, and how it contrasts with the basement.
Damn. I'm going straight back in for another playthrough once I've finished.

Lady D stooping through doorways is up there as one of the creepiest sights in the game for me
She's actually a great character ruined a bit by the internet

Yeah. I actually really like how all that plays out with her and her daughters. I love how there aren't really many enemies in the normal bit but you get these wee stalking / boss fight bits, increasing the ire of Lady D until she's full on stomping about the place like Mr X in a dress.

Re3 has strangely become my favourite, I keep playing it endlessly.
I can get through it in 1hr and 40 mins now 😅

Still too scared to play 8 though.
I played all the demoes, but felt like I'd had my fill by the end of them.

So the factory took about an hour this time. Much shorter than I remembered, yet I liked it even more this run through. It’s the ambient soundtrack with that weird wobbly wibbly bit. I love it. In fact the soundtrack to the whole game is superb.

What's the wobbly wibbly bit?
8 isn't that scary once it gets going. Bit of a creepy start and stressful opening section but generally Ethan is no slouch. It's more on the action side of the series. Characters like Lady D are quite slow and easy to avoid. There's that one section but it's actually very brief

It’s just in the music. Can’t describe it other than that. It reminds of something you’d hear in an old cheap sci fi show from somewhere. It has this weird effect where it kind of throws me off kilter when I hear it. Odd. Very odd. It won’t do it for everyone but it triggers some weird part of my weird brain.
Odd.

Well, finished it last night but can't say I'm mad keen for the 3rd person mode. Genuinely think I prefer 1st person for RE these days. Still cool to try out though. May have started another play through. The lure of an assault rifle with infinite ammo is too great. Stuck it on hardcore difficulty. Shouldn't be too bad at first but the last third is going to be nuts.

Chris' weapons are mad OP, though it does tend to kill the tension a bit

Indeed. I don't mind so much though. It's nice to have some payback. I'm not good enough to play these games on anything other than normal generally.

Tbh the enemies do get a bit bullet spongey on higher difficulties anyway, which kind of makes it feel less realistic.

I'm playing the R3make now, having played through the first two this year, and while I can't speak to the changes it makes to the original game I certainly see why people were a bit taken aback by it simply as a follow-up to RE2. It is way faster, way more action-oriented, way more linear, way shorter (I'm pretty sure I'm near the end after 6 hours), and way less scary. And yet as an action-horror game ostensibly making a beeline away from traditional survival horror, it's really very good.
That said, I am once again stuck on a boss battle, as is seemingly my lot in life, and wondering why this game full of Cutscenes Where You Hold "W" won't let me skip these things and just watch the action happen.

Yeah it was a big shock to me, it just didn’t feel the same as RE2. Glad I didn’t write it off though, ended up loving it

Can't even remember the spiders in the original. I'd really like to play them again, just to remind myself of the differences.

They're in the sewers just after the station, aren't they? Big hairy tarantulas. More interesting than blob monsters. Would have been cool to see them in the new engine

Yeah they were in the sewers. I thought they'd removed the giant alligator too but apparently you only get to see that in Leon's playthrough. I finally beat the boss battle I was stuck on, and it lead directly into...another boss battle. Capcom, I am begging you for mercy over here.
Edit:
Okay, so that last one wasn't so bad. I'm just very dramatic. Not much of an ending, though. Wish they could've given this as much TLC as RE2 got.
I'll try and get around to 4 before the remake comes out. Finally gonna learn what all the fuss is about.

Some short new footage in here for a trailer of game coverage. Not sure if it's cause of the lightning effects or what, but the rain effects could maybe do with being tuned down a wee bit

Apparently they're adding a few sidequests to the remake - hunt down a specific enemy, solving a puzzle etc.
The game was already big enough, not sure why these are needed.

Modern games and their obsession with 'content'
At least you don't have to level Leon up and fill out a skill tree
