I think 3rd person is part of the DLC
When you look at the DLC pre-order page on the PSN store it says its to get 3rd person, extra mercenaries content and the new single player story

Yeah. I think so too after reading it. A bit miserly to lock the 3rd person and extra merc's content behind the DLC. Other companies would just patch that shit into the game down the line. Makes me also think that the actually DLC story conent isn't sizable enough to justify the price tag in itself.

I know it's not as highly regarded as the Resi 2 remake but Resident Evil 3 is €9.99 or local equivalent on PSN at the moment
I snapped it up as I love Nemesis

£8.74
Odd price. Rebought it so I don't have to stick a disk in for another sesh 😅
Now I have both 2 and 3 digital in my dashboard.

Makes me also think that the actually DLC story conent isn't sizable enough to justify the price tag in itself. Especially when RE2 got a decent chunk of DLC free. Admittedly I thought it was disappointing DLC that played to none of the things I liked about the game but it was an entire game mode with new playable characters for nothing.

I'd actually been replaying Village (bit stop and start) over the last month or so. Given last night's announcements, I booted it up tonight, forgetting I had literally just got to House Beneviento Just finished the section there. So good, man.

I was much happier the second time I played that, because that shit with the baby was too much the first time.

I know it's not as highly regarded as the Resi 2 remake but Resident Evil 3 is €9.99 or local equivalent on PSN at the moment I snapped it up as I love Nemesis I thought they did the right thing TBH. The two games are so different in tone I think that it wasn’t just like 3 was extra levels for 2. I hadn’t played the original of either game but RE2Make was unexpectedly epic in scope, and I’ll do a replay of 3 at some point as I recall liking that a lot (though I forget the details)

Sounds good, and it's definitely the time of year to be playing it. It also sounds short enough that I might even finish it this year, even with my limited playing time

Bought Resident Evil 4 remake after watching the latest trailers and feedback from those who’d played it. Very disappointed that (early game spoiler) the dog you can save from the bear trap for benefit later is already dead in the remake But you can’t have everything. It doesn’t look like they’ve cut too much content like with the slightly disappointing RE3

I imagine knowing whats coming and what isn’t could make that section a bit easy to rush and spoil for yourself second time around. Would need to mentally buy-in and try to roleplay it.

Yeah, it's a one time experience really. Played through the game again soon after finishing it and that section was still enjoyable but just no sense of dread.

Oh I can honestly do without dread. Happy to deal with it just one time.

It wasn't too bad for me. The lockers made it obvious there was going to be an unkillable enemy and I already knew where to run and hide by the time it made an appearance. A bit too scripted and predictable. If you're going to do stuff like that, you need to have those lockers other places where nothing happens so it doesn't stand right out. It's like at the start of a horror game when there's a build up and then you get a gun/ammo/a message saying 'to fire your gun press R', you know it's about to pop off

For me it was the exploration before things kicked off that were where the dread was. All i knew was the bigger boys from the old place who were further ahead than me said it was bad in there but not what it was so all I knew was I was vulnerable and that the atmosphere was heavy.

Anybody tried the DLC yet? Pretty mixed reviews so far, but I'm still tempted to bite.

As an S Rank chump I had it on preorder completely forgetting that I had a work leaving do and a wedding to attend this weekend. Having a skive and playing it while working from home on Monday morning seems like the best opportunity I’ll have to get a decent run at it.

Anybody tried the DLC yet? Pretty mixed reviews so far, but I'm still tempted to bite. I've got it but because I've over egged my omelettes (bought too many games recently) by quite a considerable margin, I've not had a second to actually have a look at it.
That's a lie, I briefly went as Chris for a quick Mercenaries sesh, but that's it so far.
Need to stop buying stuff I have no time to actually play.
Pfff, as if.
Mind you, the DLC is actually quite short apparently, which I think - these days - is actually a good thing. I'm all for quantity over quantity. Apparently has a lovely scary section as well. Might blart it up this weekend.

Third person mode feels weird in the main game. I'll try and do a playthrough but it definitely feels like it loses something even in the early stages of the game.
Haven't touched the DLC yet, I'm in the same boat of buying shit with no time to actually get into it.

Yeah one of the reasons I loved RE8 was - like RE7 - the immediacy that first person mode gives you. I'll definitely replay in 3rd though for the novelty factor, but I mainly got the DLC for the Rose and Merc stuff.

Its strange because the first person in 7 and 8 was very claustrophobic and the levels designed around that narrowed perspective. Having the third person view added to 8 almost feels more restricted during the indoor moments of what little I tried of the main game and in the hallways of the dlc. Maybe its just me but it feels like the camera has been pushed back just enough to reach the edge of the light that the flashlight casts. So your eyes aren’t drawn to what you can see in the centre of a narrow first person view but to what you can’t see at the periphery of the third person view. I don’t remember 2 or 3 feeling like that but then they were both more combat orientated so I was probably keeping my eyes on my crosshair a lot more. On the dlc itself clever of them to make it an in-mushroom vision quest to free up the timeline for whatever they decide to play as the story for RE9

Shadows of Rose completed I really enjoyed it. Not going to get into any story spoilers but it was good to revisit Village, the location is such big part in making a good Resi game. The new molded feel dangerous and its nice being wrong-footed by familiar locations being repurposed like this. I’ve seen in a few places reviewers or commenters upset that its so short but I think the length is about right. There are at least two shorter chapters in the base game and I think for the story its telling it makes sense not to be massive. I can understand people not thinking £15 is good value of money for one chapter and two game modes but personally I don’t think the chapter itself is bad for being the length it is. Plus Resi is one of the few series with a lot of replay value for me so I’ll get my worth out of it anyway. The atmosphere brings dread back and one later sequence is very unnerving. Especially with Rose feeling less mobile and responsive than the other RE Engine protagonists. You definitely feel vulnerable again which freshens things up a bit. I’d avoid even the thumbnails of lets players if you can as a lot seem to be spoiling a surprise in classic clickbaity style. I haven’t really done anything more with the updated mercenary mode but then I’ve never put much time into that sort of thing in any generation of RE. According to Howlongtobeat.com the length is averaging out at 3-4 hours

simpleNice. Might actually ram it on this evening. If that's how long it'll take then a couple of good sessions will do it.
