That first episode was very weird, but fun enough.
All the 'this is a Tardis and this is a Sonic Screwdriver' exposition was a bit obvious.

Episode 3
That was better.
So, that's three episodes in a row where the actress Susan Twist has been in it in some capacity. And in the last one, the Doctor reminded people of the existence of his granddaughter, Susan. And, in that godawful song, There's Always A Twist In The End. Not exactly disguising what's coming, are they. I bet they couldn't believe their luck when they found someone with a name they could write a plot around.

Episode 3 was great.
I can't help feeling that the whole Susan Twist thing is just a red herring to wind up the fans. It just seems too obvious and in your face.

She's been in all the new Doctor's episodes so far and will be in the next one according to IMDB. There definitely seems to be a theme around parenthood this time around, was it ever established who Susan's parents were?

The first few episodes really reminded me how much I disliked the RTD era. He’s as subtle as a jackhammer to the ballbag.

Enjoyed "Boom" more than the other two, watching the BTS it was a pretty impressive set they built instead of chancing using an outdoor location, the base camp was done very well too.
Stephen Moffatt deciding the first thing he's going to do in his first script in years was to shoot the Doctor and Ruby was a ballsy move, you wonder what'll happen in his next.

It was still another heavy handed metaphor. 'What if Ambulances actually killed people?'. Its commentary on the war economy makes MGS4 look like Shakespeare.
Its going to be a very long run if every fucking episode is a 'what if cow milked humans?' level probing question.

I'm enjoying the new series, and absolutely love the new doctor (question though, is he going to cry in every episode - surprised the "anti-wokies" haven't stormed the castle about his feelings yet) but has Moffat always been this heavy handed? Moffat is responsible for Matt Smith's doctor (who I still think might be my favourite so far) so he has a lot of goodwill on my end, but it's very ON THE NOSE. Though I do think the episodes have got better as they've gone along, and Boom was very good if heavy handed.
I loved Maestro and the scenery chewing in The Devil's Chord but am more intrigued about how many other of the Toymaker's children we're going to see and what it all leads up to. Moffat does a series spanning storyline well; Capaldi's doctor was certainly served a lot of shite standalone episodes which was a shame as I would have loved to see him get some of the longer storylines other doctors have had.

Still subtle as a very subtle thing compared to Chibnall.
Hell, a brick to the nuts is subtle compared to Chibnall.

EP1 was OK if you ignored all the over-explanation (but I understand they are trying to get on board a new audience).
EP2 had a fun villain, but was very average.
EP3 was more interesting, but far too heavy handed.
EP4 was, erm, WTF - made absolutely no sense, had some nice tension during the scene in the pub, but other than that was very poor.
I'm liking the new Doctor, but I'd happily swap the higher production values if it meant we had some better writing back.

Episode 5 had an unpleasant ending. I was convinced for a good portion of it that it was going to turn out that the parents had paid to send their vapid idiot offspring away specifically to be some kind of food tithe for those creatures, and there was going to be a lesson about how people can learn to be better and even idiots can have value or something, but fuck me, when the other shoe dropped at the end, I was absolutely fine with those fuckwits being eaten alive by giant slugs.
I mean, not to take away from the message or anything, but that specific plot twist was one I'd seen on a recent rewatch of Stargate SG-1.
Fairplay to Ncuti Gatwa, the simultaneous outrage and heartbreak on his face at the end was powerful.

yeah Dot and Bubble was a bit of a weird one, felt like the twist at the end was a bit unexpected as any build up was too subtle and then nothing happened as they went their merry way.
For all the invitation to compare to the Black Mirror episode Nosedive, didn't think it was anywhere as near as good and didn't do anything with the concept apart from "you were right dear viewer, those awful people are awful".

I made the bold prediction that we would get a ‘social media is bad’ parable within the first three episodes, so it did slightly wrong foot me on that front.
I did, however, not see the ‘twist’ coming which, sadly, I found quite funny.

On Unleashed they said that, apart from the regeneration scene in the special, that scene was his first one.

He’s far too good for the material. That ending was unearned and ridiculous but he really put his back into it.

Now that was some proper Dr Who Agreed. Certainly helped that it didn't feel like any exposition or explanations had been either left on the cutting room floor or just never written in the first place.

I genuinely did not notice they'd included Richard E. Grant in that line-up of the Doctors' previous faces.

Maybe Disney just had 3d scans of his face lying around from General Badguy in RoS.
They should really have stuck in a Mark Hamill one in the background and watched the internet implode under the theories.

Episode 7
I really wish they'd put up some sort of note as the credits roll, that says something like "The reason the Doctor looked scared shitless there at the end was because he hasn't seen this villain since 1975" and then I wouldn't have to scroll through a Tardis-Wiki article longer than the fucking M4.

The final episode was a jumbled, awful mess and I would bet all of Sunak's mates election day stake money the Ruby Sunday plot is still open.
I thought I'd go into more detail but honestly after that shite I can't be arsed.

Yeah, agree, was a mess really. Shorter season, rushed relationship between the doctor and Ruby and deflating finale.
He is a great doctor though.

I know it’s never been hard sci-fi but this whole series has basically just run on actual magic, just speaking a thing into existence to resolve the plot.
*deafeningly loud music plays* ‘Time is memories and memories are hot dogs because I’m hungry so here’s a time hot dog’ *cries*
It’s genuinely the worst Dr Who I’ve ever watched. The only thing that confounded my expectations is that I had money on Sekhmet doing the Macarena with Sharon Tardis at some point.

Yeah complete nonsense. Why did it keep snowing around her, what that even explained? On the other hand, some nice cleavage shots this episode.
