I mean, you won’t find any car chases in it. But it’s a decent drama. Think Lena Dunham is a producer and directed the first ep, and it does have a sort of Girls vibe about it.
Theres an episode in series one where a character attempts to cover up her massive fuck up that most people who’ve worked in an office can relate to.

Heh, that info about Lena Dunham's involvement has made me reconsider watching it now.

I'm watching The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow as some old CIA/assassin people.
It's pretty good! No real surprises as far as the plot goes, but it's the kind of thing where the stars really elevate it. Bridges especially, that guy's scary af.

latest season (4) of Only Murders in the Building (disney) is, i think, following the gentle downward slope. Which is to say it's still a good 7/10, latest episode (6) nudging back up a bit, but none have felt quite as good as that first season

We watched the first two episodes last night and definitely agree on the steady downward slope. My missus still loves it though. It's still perfectly watchable mind you. Cozy autumn TV.

Is the whole 4th season online now? I like to do it all in one go.
I love the show and its one of TV’s classiest treats but I think one of the issues Only Murders is that it feels like it was conceived as a one and done, possibly even as a movie, and its popularity means they keep needing to generate new reasons to keep the trio locked in.
Luckily it started from such a massive high point and everyone involved is bringing their A games that even “lesser” seasons wipe the floor with almost everything else out there on streaming.
How many shows get to have a coasting season where they can take their foot off the gas and let a rejuvenated Meryl Streep fill the screen with comedy, drama and singing like that?

Finally started The Leftovers the other day. Enjoyed the first episode enough to carry on. Watched a second one last night and also enjoyed it, although I was a bit confused as there were characters appearing and mentioned that I didn't recall from the first episode and they seemed to be people I should know. It also showed the town as being completely isolated, which I had no idea about from the first episode. Not to worry, I thought, this episode is quite focused on an individual character so perhaps more will be revealed as the series goes on.
Finish the episode and it pops up offering the next episode - which is season 2 episode 4 or something. I somehow I managed to skip a whole bunch of episodes, likely because I had been looking to see how long the seasons were the night before.
Still managed to enjoy the episode somehow though.

Haha, oh shit... Kevin's sudden beard growth must've been a bit surprising!
It's an excellent show. Hope you stick with it

Just watched the penguin first episode. Thought that was pretty excellent, I’m sure there are bad ones out there but every hbo series I’ve ever seen has been such a great watch.

There appears to be something similar with Elisabeth Moss on the lam in Europe

Finished Ludwig 7/10 S'kay, not gonna knock your socks off, get a feeling that the next season will be better. The whole premise was a bit out there, and the way it resolved was all a bit weird. I will watch David Mitchell in most things, so that helped.

The doppelganger/twin angle made for some nice comic moments but I wasn’t all that caught up in the overarching plot. It was seeing Mitchell Mitchell his way around the case of the week that I was watching for

Slow Horses - compulsive viewing as ever though I do wish there was a little more Jackson Lamb this season. I'm slightly missing the farty old git.
From - this season (S3) seems to have received rave reviews, and is perfectly watchable but I really need the show to gain some proper momentum regarding the actually underlying wtf mysteries. It's starting to get a little tiresome, though I'm planning to stay the course.

Threads is obviously a bleak one but I feel like the time might be right for a new adaptation of The Death of Grass. The premise in that one always felt far more real and scary to me. Although we appear to be on course for both apocalypses at the moment so that’s something I guess.

Imho the most likely end state for humanity is that depicted in the horrifying movie Wall-E. We all end up as overweight chair-bound husks addicted to social media and Netflix while AI governs us from the shadows.

Slow Horses - 4x06
Fucking hell.
Jonathan Pryce might not have had much to do in this episode, but by fuck what he did have was immensely well acted.
It was only on a second watch of that scene toward the end that I twigged why Coe did what he did. His previously disclosed hatred of seeing people in handcuffs meant he had to act, but he couldn't afford to let the guy out of them, hence the gun.
Roll on season 5!

Yup loved Slow Horses s4, I think they have the pacing and stakes just right on that one. Previous couple of series have been a bit too hi octane/save the world. This one they got the big incident out the way at the start and could concentrate on the fallout and fuck ups, a bit more Lamb and less plot armour for River wouldn't go a miss.

One episode into the Netflix Tomb Raider anime. Its basically a Saturday morning show like Johnny Quest but with bloody violence.

On the go at the moment...
Sweetpea: Two episodes in. Very, very meh. I feel like this sort of thing has been done many times before, and it's definitely no Dexter. At least its just six <60 minute episodes - it's not going to be too much of a time sink if I do give it a chance and see if it improves...
My Brilliant Friend: Have tried to watch this many times before but with the final series coming up I'm committing to a full watch through. It's very good, but quite depressing in a "post-war Naples where everyone is poor and the women all get smacked around" sort of way.

I think my main comparison for it is Jonathan Creek. But mainly because of how it walks the line between comedy, drama and whodunit. Yeah I'm quite enjoying Ludwig and that is a fair summary. Perhaps more Mark Corrigan, than Jonathan Creek.

It baffles me that it wasn’t showered with Emmys and top of end of year lists.
Absolutely perfect television.

I randomly watched the first episode of Spin City a few nights back (itv or c4 i think).
I think i LOL'd more in that 20 minutes than I have at all of the recent tv comedies I've tried over the past few years combined. To the point where a brat came in and asked 'why are you laughing so much?? You never laugh!'
I'm not sure it did anything particularly original, it's a very generic US sitcom from the era when they were all quickfire jokes. The kind they don't really make these days. But it has a great cast and Michael J Fox is really good at that kind of role.

A couple of episodes into the new Brian Cox space thing Solar System. It’s really good. I kind of thought he’d run out of things to say by now or different ways of saying the same thing, but I’d say this is probably the best thing he has done. Really well scripted and just full of cool shit, awe and wonder. Probably the closest thing he done to an Attenborough which is prefer incredible really when it’s all cgi and we still don’t really know that much. He is such a good storyteller.
