What mesh do they use? Might be better investing in your own - they'll claim means diagnostics aren't as effective but tbh, with a big phat line like that, you'll be golden. Good price too. Not 100%, but looks like Linksys dual-band Wi-Fi 6 routers. Possibly Velop? If that's meaningful to you. Looking at the Ultimate Home WiFi deal here: communityfibre.co.uk/order/package/bundles?sprn=5451760£32/pcm "You’ll receive additional Mesh routers that match the specifications of your broadband speed package: All eligible speed packages under 1,000 Mbps will get extra Linksys Velop WiFi 5 routers. Our 1,000 Mbps and 3,000 Mbps speed packages will get extra Linksys Velop WiFi 6 routers"

Same page:
"Includes 920 Mbps Fibre Broadband (Avg. 400-650 Mbps over WiFi), our WiFi in Every Room service + free next-gen, Linksys dual-band Wi-Fi 6 routers."
So bit unclear to me.
Imma call them in a bit.

I've been waiting ages for Community Fibre to come to us. We got a card through the door over a year ago saying they were coming in the next few months, but 9 months later when my contract with Plusnet ran out it was still 'coming soon' so had to renew again. I had this at my old flat for GNetwork. Waited about 3 years and then it finally arrived. I even called off the back of the Golden Ticket they stuck through my letterbox... A year of free broadband to the first person to buy it. I was that first person. Then...... They told me there was an issue with Camden Council about who would pay for the cabling from the street to the block. If I wanted it, it would cost me 750 for installation. Righttttttttt. I wouldn't be surprised if all the months of digging up the roads has led to precisely 0 sales because of this.

Called them... They supply MX4200 units (https://www.linksys.com/gb/tri-band-ax4200-mesh-wifi-6-router/MX4200-UK.html)
As many as needed to provide coverage throughout.
Rental basis, so need to give them back upon cancellation.
Assuming one per floor, that's £450 on Amazon for three, vs. £120 for two year rental. Actually does seem a pretty good deal. Think I'm gunna plump for it.

Community Fibre installed today. Ended up going for non-Mesh install as cashback deal wasn't available on the Mesh offering.
Anyway, sitting here with 844Mbps down/750 Mbps up. On WiFi. Ridiculous.
Don't think I need to bother getting Mesh system in myself either as 2nd floor was getting about 500Mbps earlier anyway... See how it pans out in coming days.

We were in the same position and weren't on any fibre priority plans, then suddenly openreach fibre was just available for me to order with no fanfare.

We had that. Some random guy from ‘Hey Broadband’ came round to tell us we were big boy internet available and did we want to be emailed details. Yes, we did.
They then sent us a mail shot that was white text on a white background that we eventually deciphered as being just a link to their barebones website. I was picking up some real some guy in his bedroom ‘Purple Monkey Energy’ vibes from them.

Plusnet contract's up for renewal next month: just in time for the 14% increase they'll lump on. There's not much around in terms of competitive offers, is there? Thought somebody might be offering ~60MB for £20 or so…

Vodafone were usually the ones I used for price comparison when speaking to Plusnet retentions (£23ish) near the end of my contract. Never actually needed to switch though, and they're a nightmare to deal with if anything goes wrong apparently.
I'd say just check on uSwitch or whatever and see if Plusnet can match the best price first of all.

Of course it goes on the line rental.

I recently decided to switch to a single ISP for broadband and phone to save myself 50%. Went through order process that said I could have FTTC. 2 weeks of silence and me chasing them, oh you can't have FTTC. Now waiting for them to sort standard ADSL, my dreams of quick cheap fibre broadband destroyed.

Ah, here it is: Of course it goes on the line rental. Huh, Plusnet sent me this: Here’s the detail of how much your price/s will increase: • Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband: £3.51 • Line Rental: £3.34 You got off lightly!

There's a big Virgin price hike on the way - I missed the email initially, but this HUKD thread has plenty of tips for calling them to negotiate. www.hotukdeals.com/discussions/virgin-media-price-rise-2023-megathread-4076830Having to call firms to haggle every time something like this happens or my contract ends does my head in, and the difference in price makes you realise how much they scalp from people who are too lazy or just never notice how much they're paying.

Managed to get a fiver off for 12 months with Wightfibre, £22.50 for 300 symmetrical.

Its a big hike, but it's also the standard CPI (10.5%) + a few percent hike that every other provider is doing. I'm amazed that Virgin don't have this in their contracts like everybody else. I'm absolutely fucked with BT as it's all in my contract. I went straight for the most expensive package as soon as full fibre was available, so this is going to sting!

Its a big hike, but it's also the standard CPI (10.5%) + a few percent hike that every other provider is doing. Mine is going up by just over 25% - from £58 to £73. Someone else says theirs is going up by 40%. They're milking what they can because they know the majority of their customers either won't read the email or won't do anything.

I think its now more about locking you back into a long contract rather than trying to trick you into letting an expensive charge roll month to month. You cant do anything with Sky without signing up for another 18 months.
And then when youre coming to the end of that contract, you get a blizzard of 'your discounts are about to expire! Look how expensive its going to be!' emails.

I really think broadband needs some Government regulation, given it's an essential utility now. As I see it, there are 2 main problems. First, contracts aren't worth the paper they're printed on, due to excessive legal caveats. Contracts should be honoured at the agreed price for the agreed period. End of.
Second, staff pulling prices out of the air leaves the door wide open to discrimination against certain customers, or people being penalised simply for talking to the "wrong person" on the phone.

Oh, weird. Images in that HUKD post mentions they're just doing the same kind of increase as everyone else (hadn't read through the replies) Absolutely scummy behaviour if not, and no surprise they're letting people break contract seeing as they're bloody well doing it first.
Ofcom really need to crack down on this shit, and 24 month contracts too. Early termination fees need to fuck right off too!

It's simply price fixing of an essential utility, much like we've seen with energy recently.

I took out a contract with Onestream in January, and have been very happy so far, and their customer service is leagues ahead of the likes of Virgin. No emails saying my monthly fee is going up so far, so it may be worth looking to switch to them if you can?

Reading through that, it seems like there were a LOT of people on really good deals that they believed would last forever who are upset that they're not and who are still getting better deals than are out there for ADSL+ providers. If you want Fibre with my provider, it's £50 a month odd. Regardless of price, I'd never use Virgin again because their customer service is the single worst I have ever experienced for anything, anywhere.

Does anyone share my conspiracy theory opinion, or have I just made this up?
Every year, around the time TalkTalk want to contact us about “an upgrade” (read: paying more money for no meaningful gain), our internet connection seems to start misbehaving on a daily basis.
It feels like they want us to phone them, and then, while they’ve got us…!

Yeah, being tied into a 24 month 'contract' is complete bullshit whenever they can up the price of the so called 'contract'.

Had the email today - £22 a month increase! Called, went to Cancellations ready to argue and they immediately offered me £2 off my current price for signing up again for 12 months with no additional increases (apart from annual RPI) She said lots are calling and they can make savings if asked - guess they're hoping most will just suck it up.

It's like every company is looking jealously at the energy companies and trying to get their paws in the honey jar as well. Rip off Britain indeed.

Don't be so cynical. It's obviously because of inflation, and Ukraine, and Covid.
I'm sure we're going to get big pay increases to match it, right? Right?

Yeah I had the email from VM today. Still in contract till July but £15 will be added on when we get round to May. At the moment anyone in contract can ofc leave without penalty but in future that won't be possible as they are changing the T&c of the contracts so if you stay with them expect the rise in April 2024 and if locked in for 18 month from tomorrow you can't do anything about it.
I guess the best option with VM is a 12 month contract if the price is good enough, wait till the contract ends in which you will pay whatever the higher price of the package is after discounts applied plus the annual rise next year then leave or strike a new deal.
Also had my Tesco notification of a price increase also but I'm out of contract so can leave without issue and go elsewhere
