Finally got to the docs today. Eardrums and everything look fine and no infection apparently but god did the affected ear hurt when it was probed. Being referred to a hearing specialist to check for nerve damage etc and this may force me to consider my position in my hobby/function band tbh. So that’s nice.
I’ve also had a small pea sized lump on the side of my neck, maybe an inch under the jawline.
Finally plucked up the courage to get it looked at after about 18 months, which is fucking stupid of me I know and why I will probably die early.
Anyway, it’s in the skin layer and been told it’s likely some kind of scar tissue - I actually think this started as basically a big zit that I tried and failed to pop, so I’ve probably done it to myself. Been told to not worry and go back if it grows basically (I think it’s actually shrank) so that’s at least a big weight off the shoulders - with finally plucking up the courage to admit my hair’s shit and thin and shaving it off that’s actually two weights in the span of a week.

Good news and well done for getting things checked.
My two cents for anyone else is always get things checked if in doubt, if things happen to be bad then the earlier you catch it the better. If it’s an embarrassment thing, don’t be as the Dr/Nurse you’ll see will just be doing their job.

drakesmoke Hopefully your ear issues will be nothing major and easy to sort out, and happy to hear your neck issue wasn't anything. It's always good to get these things checked out. Let us know about the ears!

Will do. The rumbling/twitching/whatever thing is still with me intermittently, but not nearly as bad as when I was first posting about it.

Cheers for the well wishes guys.
The GP told me not to worry too much as he doesn't think my bleeding is anything more serious than an internal pile, so I'm trying to follow his advice and drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fibre, and trying not to stress too much.
Could have done without the bus that passed by me earlier with one of those "It could be nothing, but it could be..." ads on the back of it.

Good luck anyway Mike.
It's embarrassing but struggled with piles on and off myself over the years, they're harmless but look like an absolute horror show at times and can properly give you the willies. My last flare up resulted from a hacking Covid cough over Christmas, who knew.
Fingers crossed that's all it is.

Phone call yesterday from the hospital to ask if I could go pick up some heavy chemicals to prepare my insides for my colonoscopy tomorrow.
I said, "I'm sorry, I thought I was having an Endoscopy rather than a Colonoscopy?"
Them: "It'll be a Colonoscopy, performed in the Endoscopy department. Did they not tell you?"
Me: "No. The GP said Endoscopy, so did the surgery receptionist when I phoned up to query something, and the previous phone call with the hospital to arrange the appointment only mentioned the word Endoscopy, several times in fact. You are the first person who has said Colonoscopy to me, just now."
Them: "Oh. Right."
---
So, that'll be fun. I mean, I should have fucking guessed it would be really, given the bleeding from the tunnel, but for fucks sake.
What's annoyed me even further, was that I had to pick up the stuff at the Endoscopy department of my local hospital, a 20 minute walk from my house, while my appointment for the procedure tomorrow is at another hospital, over an hour's drive away.

Oh dear. I did initially think that seems like the wrong hole for the symptoms you mentioned...
FWIW I found a colonoscopy far less distressing as an experience than an upper GI endoscopy. Neither are something I'd choose to do, but they're really not that bad.

For future reference, an endoscope is a flexible camera used for instance for a gastroscopy or a colonoscopy.

I always go the IV sedation route for my upper GI endoscopies. The throat spray does nothing for me except leave me retching.

Aye. I've told the story before but when my wife had to have one, the local hospital forced her to try it without sedation and when she couldn't manage it, totally belittled her. She ended being referred to another hospital and was fine under sedation. Cunts.

I think I'll actually be better able to cope with the Colonoscopy, as I developed a cough over the last two days and now I can feel my glands beginning to swell, so a tube irritating the shit out of my throat would have been the last thing I needed.
EDIT:
You know that early King Of The Hill episode where Hank can't shit for ages and gets a Colonoscopy to find out why? I've just realised that whole premise is bollocks, because either they would have given him the massive laxative before it to prepare for the camera, or if not the laxative then they would given him the enema on arrival at the hospital, either of which would have solved his problem there and then.

Well that was a thoroughly unpleasant experience.
Had a polyp removed that they described as "a monster". Now got two tiny metal clips inside my lower rectum that are causing me a fair bit of pain, which will apparently fall out in 7 to 10 days.
Other than that, all clear.

Get well soon Blue_Mike! Really glad they gave you the "all clear"!!! I've heard the difficult part of a colonoscopy is the preparation beforehand (the meds they give you to empty your bowels), but neither the camera nor the metal clips up the rectum sound like fun.

Cheers, all. The pain is easing off a bit already. Follow up examination in three months time, thankfully for that one I apparently won't need to take another two liters of MoviPrep, which is more of a fucking war crime than a laxative.

1 liter the day before, at 6pm, to be drank over the course of two hours. Then another at 6am this morning.
The effects were exactly as expected, but by fuck I was not prepared for the taste of the stuff. Kinda like sea water with a twist of artificial lemon.

And 24 hours later, I'm completely pain free. Plus, my piss is no longer blue-black after reacting to the Methylene dye they put in me.
According to the report, my polyp was 25mm. So... hooray.

Anyone with experience of costochondritis? Went on a huge health kick roughly 4 weeks ago that involved a lot of off-road mountain biking which has made my ribs/sternum quite sore. Would like to keep exercising (if only swimming) but I'm worried this is going to make things worse. Obviously I'll be kicking the weights and running into touch for a while. Any safe exercises? Dr Google is telling me I need full rest

I was subjected to my dad drinking that stuff before his polyps op at a period I was living with the folks. It sounded like somebody had poured a bucket down the loo lol and the chemical after smell it leaves is something else.
I guess an advantage from it is that you’ve probably had the equivalent of a free colonic irrigation!
I’m glad you got it seen and sorted Mike.
Got my hearing appointment through this weekend, which stated it was a telephone appointment, but on closer inspection was just ringing the local hub to book an appointment - bonkers. Have had second thoughts as the ticking ear thing has been gradually reducing and have now been free of it for a few days (hooray!) but I guess getting an MOT won’t hurt - just feel a bit guilty that somebody might need it more. Anyway I told them clinic location was more important than time so I’m on a waiting list.
Edited for oversharing sorry.
