Yeah he can be quite samey, good for a random listen every now and again.
If you download the app datpiff you can access all mixtape etc. Listen to 50cent Power of the Dollar on there too.

I've become obsessed with Fire in the Spoof recently. I guess it's probably more drill and grime than rap but they have some seriously talented writers at their disposal.

Ransom and Rome Streets, Coup De Grace is definitely an album worth listening too.
Listened through a few times now and it's pretty great.
And if you like it, give Rome Streets other albums a listen as well.

The list I'm working from ends around 2010 I think so nice to listen to something more recent. Didn't like the other stuff posted above (Slaughterhouse and something else)

Yeah, I find Slaughterhouse very underwhelming.
Post 2010 I'd say Pusha T(Daytona), Run The Jewels(3&4), ASAP Rocky(Long Live ASAP) and Kendrick Lemar(Damn) are all good to great albums.
Plus you have Nas' release that always need a listen.

Listened to Wu Tang Forever today. Wu Tang Clan have some of the best production I've heard

The RZA was untouchable in the 90s. Forever's my favourite Wu album, but Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Ghostface's Iron Man are contenders as well.

Liquid Swords is the best solo album out of them for me. It's incredible.

Maybe this belongs in the unpopular opinion thread, but I never liked GZA's rhymes. Liquid Swords has impeccable production, but his raps always fell flat for me.
Inspectah Deck had been highly underrated though, and hasn't really been appreciated until recent years.

You don't even like him on Shadow Boxing? Him and Method Man sharing verses trying to top eachother is classic.

What are peoples thoughts on Eminem? I can't seem to find the enthusiasm to listen to anything. It might just be because I've already heard his stuff before on TV or wherever and there's still plenty of stuff I've never even heard of

In his prime he was a top tier MC that wasn't just good for being a better white rapper than Vanilla Ice. He was witty and clever and not just shock value. His run from MMLP to the 8 Mile was great. Especially some of his features. He really respects rap and the craft behind it.
Now he's just a robot that's technically amazing but just out of touch and angry. His super fast flow isn't impressive it's just annoying.
But his early stuff is well worth a listen. Till I Collapse is one of my favourite rap songs.

For me, Em has always been skilled, but I could never really fuck with his subject matter. He did have a few signs of depth, mostly on Marshall Mathers and Eminem Show, but he also had a lot of songs where he just rapped about wanting to kill his baby's mother or his own mother, or beefing with pop stars who never did diss records like Christina Aguilera and Nsync, and that seemed very angry white boy from the US midwest to me.
Anyway.
I hope y'all watch Drink Champs. I know Nore isn't always the best interviewer, and often the shows can run quite long, but it's great to hear stories from those who were actually in it at the time.
Here's the latest episode with Ghost and Rae

I listened to the Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers albums and he's quite the edge lord. If I'd listened to it when I was younger, I'd have probably liked it more but it misses me now. Surprisingly I recognised most of the songs on the latter album so either there were about 10 singles or I must have listened to it before. It's not bad and a lot of it is really catchy, I just don't see myself listening to it a lot over other things

His section on Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap is still pretty good.
If you haven't seen that movie, it's worth a watch.

Being around 10 at the time that I REALLY got into hip hop, it was the rappers with nerd themes like Wu-Tang, OutKast and Heiroglyphics that I gravitated towards.

I was kind of up and down on it - on the one hand it's clearly just to be shocking in a Marilyn Manson kind of way that I thought was cool as a teenager but I just don't really want to listen to his murder or rape fantasies. It's just not interesting
I've read about his responses to homophobia in interviews and he says "faggot" is just something that was said when he was growing up that didn't have anything to do with being gay but he clearly does use it in that context. There's a whole bit where he says it along with stuff about being gay, etc

You're missing out big time, early outkast have some of the goat albums/songs.

Yeah, their first three albums are exceptional. You won't get to Hey Ya until Speakerboxx/The Love Below (which is their 5th), but that's really good too. You can always skip a single song. Or you could just listen to the 2001 comp... www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8yYQLpYY2c

Okey dokey. I'll line something up
I realised Eminem is a play on his initials (probably) yesterday. I'm so smart
Slim Shady LP was also the 50th rap album I've listened to \o/
The Diary, Wu Tang Forever, Ready to Die, The Infamous and 2001 are my top 5 (today)
This thread has been really helpful!

Really wasn't feeling Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor album so listened to Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik instead and it was pretty good!
Blowout Comb is so chill. Love it

The Cool is definitely his most creative album, but I loved Food & Liquor. It's very much a backpack album though.
Just throwing Mural up here because as self-indulgent as that track is, it always kind of amazes me. I wonder if he performs it in concert. That'd be some incredible breath control.
