No topic yet. I'm generally just in general gaming but this week I've had kings disease 2 by Nas on repeat and it's actually really really good. I liked the first but this is a step up. 1 should not have got the Grammy, that should have gone to Freddie Gibbs for sure!
Also I just watched this Dre beats concert in LA from a few years ago. Classic artist are artist. Shame the crowd from the video seemed to be Instagram models who had no fucking clue who all the rappers were.

The way you wrote actually really good like you were surprised a Nas album is good is, well, surprising. Even his duds are better than most. It's great though.
Lloyd Banks CoTI is worth a listen,bit samey but is good.

Didn't like Illmatic the first time I listend to it but having listened around a bit, I came back to it a couple of days ago and liked it a lot more
Still just catching up on everything I've missed. Not sure why, but I really like Notorious BIG
Haven't listened to anything by Dre yet

Quite like the new (well, released earlier this year) Tyler, the Creator mix tape.
Bounces all over the place in an enjoyable way, harks back to his early stuff at times but keeps the sophistication and jazzy inflections of his later stuff.

I really fucking hate Drake. His voice goes right through me.
Been trying to get through Kanye's new album and struggling. His early albums are classic, now he's just jumped the shark and become a parody at this point.

That's an absolute classic! But depends heavily whether the g-funk era is your thing.
Coming late into rap I can see why it might not be your thing.
Kendrick Lemar is worth a listen if you like a more modern take on it. Good Kid maad city is another classic.

It just seems really childish to me, like he's got nothing to say whatsoever. Just shouting BIATCH and puns on having dog as a name I've listned to NWA, Wu Tang Clan, Notirious BIG, etc and love them so it's just that one. Honestly, Snoop Dog is the only thing I haven't loved so far
Genuine question: what's the score on singing lyrics with the 'n word' in? I keep singing Poor Lil Rich by 50 cent and sound like a radio edit as I instinctively skip the word. It just doesn't feel right

Yeah I liked Kanye's early albums, I used to really like Underground or indie hip hop, 90s era when they were using Jazz samples, but have always avoided artists like Kanye because they were mainstream and I expected it to be pop music or wannabe Gangsta but he's really talented.

The new Kanye has some decent stuff in there, but yeah, he's really not the same as he used to be. Life of Pablo is probably my favourite album of his, and that felt fragmented and a bit messy, but in an intentional way. Whereas his output since then just feels unfocused and lacking in spark. His mental state (and the fact that he has no-one to tell him to rein things in) probably doesn't help.
Favourite albums so far this year are Tyler and Isaiah Rashad. New Nas is also quite good, better than last year's from what I've heard.
On the UK front, listened to quite a bit of Casisdead recently, and loving his new track:

That's my feeling but I remember someone posting some lyrics here with the word included. At first it I thought it was a bit off but it would be silly to change it if you're literally quoting someone's lyrics. There are also tracks with it in the title and I wondered how you'd say them to another person. Think I'll go with the noodle approach  |

Illmatic is close to being a perfect album I think The closet I've come to a perfect album so far is The Chronic, despite Snoop Dogg's attempts to ruin it. It's actually a better Snoop Dog album than Doggystyle. Every time he says biatch though it really does my head in |

For me it's the power of the break more than the words. I find myself rapping along happily about what I'm going to do to fool ass niggas, if I like the sample. I fell out of love with hip hop a bit when they started having to pay royalties for samples and the consequence was a lot of rappers started making their own beats.
