Oh I know. Absolutely. It wasn't the best example, but just something that sprung to mind.

£50 though. It's kind of nuts the price variation in big game releases these days. £20 cheaper than a lot of PS5 games!

Cross platform tho innit? Tends to be the exclusives that get the £70 treatment.

Earthen Peak, Harvest Valley, Iron Keep, Frigid Outskirts, Iron Passage, Cave of the Dead, Doors of Pharros, Grave of Saints, Black Gulch. There's probably more. Yet it's fucking brilliant. I like or don't mind most of those bits apart from Iron Passage (have never even done it as the boss is only a harder version of Smelter Demon anyway and fuck that run to the boss). Iron Keep is OK but is my least favourite area
Had to look up Frigid Outskirts. Yup, and the bit leading up to the optional boss in Brume Tower. All the DLC areas have one of those absolutely awful gauntlets before the boss without a checkpoint inbetween. I keep meaning to do them one day but just can't be arsed

I can't actually recall what ending I'm currently going for but I've done the immortal child one, and the other one so I've got either the basic ending to do or the shura one. I'll do the shura one next NG cycle I think as I'm already past the owl fight on way for the Immortal Severence one. Think there's one or two trophies tied to prosthetics I need but can't think what else I haven't done.

Yeah these one where you have to have every prosthetics upgrades which can be done in two runs if you get everything or three if not.

Yet it's fucking brilliant compared to most games, it's way below from software's other games though. I was wondering if this was the right time and place to say Dark Souls II is probably my favourite of the trilogy. If you disagree I'll accuse you of gatekeeping, or something. p.s. I also totally recognise its flaws. For whatever odd reason, I adore it even more than the other too....maybe not more than Demon's, though.

Early impressions suggest you can 'easy mode' Elden Ring by leaning heavily into magic and faith. Some of the spells/skills do huge damage at range for relatively little cost.

You've got to imagine that a later area will run counter to that logic, where decent brawn is OP, etc. etc. Despite not being a huge fan of the From catalogue (although Sekiro now occupies a warm place in my heart) the notion of "Skyrim, but with an actual combat system" is very appealing to me.

I have mellowed on black gulch probably, as I like all the little side bits you can roll off to and it's a great farming area. Still not as good as a lot of other areas mind you.

If you join the Rat King covenant (as you should), you can just walk through Doors of Pharros without being attacked for the most part. First time I did I thought the game was glitched

There's shit things about every soulsborne game to be fair. They are not perfect so I don't think it's hard to point out any flaws. I don't think that's a fair way of attacking them however as it's not really about that. Dark Souls tapped into something the gaming community had obviously needed at the time. Was it as hard as it was being made out to be? No. Of course not. But at a time where devs couldn't hold your hand anyfurther than if they'd grafted their own fingers to yours, it was a breath of fresh air (I know Demon's came first but as a platform exclusive it didn't have the impact of the first Dark Souls). There's a lot of love for the franchise borne out of that fact alone. Yes, lots of people give these games a free pass, and there are some out there that overlook all the flaws, but that's true of every popular game and franchise. You've got the die hards, the ones you really like it, the ones who can take it or leave it, and the ones who can't get on board with it at all. That was true ten years ago, possibly even five years ago still, but I wonder how people today would react to something like that. Accessibility is a big topic nowadays, and many devs are making good strides, and getting good publicity for it. From has kinda gone the opposite way, their games have generally got harder, and from what I know (haven't played it myself) Sekiro in particular is bastard hard and has the difficulty curve of a brick wall. But this is a Namco game, and Namco is a big publisher, and big publishers like good publicity, so I want to see if Elden Ring will be any different in that regard.

Can someone please explain how ds2 could possibly be their favourite!? I mean it's an amazing game for me but so far behind every single other game they've made. I'm trying to think of any single area it's better in? I don't think I can. There are many great things about it but it's better in one of the other games made. I have been given ds3 to play on my Xbox as it's now 60fps. I don't think there isn't a build I haven't already done in 3. Not sure what to rock. Has there been any mention in these skill up previews etc of how co op works? I wonder if they've designed it so we can play the whole game pretty much co op or there will be lots of limitations on it like in some of their previous games.

Exactly - this is why I liked it, I was blown away by discovering those bits below. It was a massively tense experience, ended up being a memorable one. And, yes, definitely still a weaker level in the game, just somehow not as annoying for me as Blighttown or Valley of Defilement.

I think this is them playing up to their own repuation. Again, I don't think that's what the majority of people like about From games and Sekiro was their most divisive game for that reason

I think I liked Sekiro precisely because of its purity. I wasn't worried about my build, I didn't have to fret that I didn't have the optimal item, or any of that. Me. My muscle memory. The bad guys.
Hard as fucking nails in places (and I haven't actually finished it - parked on Owl Father on my first play through) but I got further, and enjoyed it more, than in any previous From game of the modern era.

bichiiApparently a co-op partner can't follow you through mists or into dungeons (at the moment anyway) but can be summoned once you're inside, which is weird.

I had much more fun playing it than Dark Souls. So much so that I played it several times in a row to platinum it. Some people think Sgt. Pepper's is the best album by the Beatles. I'd say it's their third or fourth best. Others their second best etc. I'm not fully convinced Dark Souls is as "objectively" the best as consensus would have us believe. The games are all great enough for subjective experience to tip the balance imho. Personal preference regarding atmosphere, progression, other design elements, as well as, frankly, one's mood and where you were at in your life when you first played it. It all came together for me with DSII. For instance, it just felt a lot /weirder/ in more areas of the level design than DS for me, and that appealed. TL;DR: their second greatest game ;-)

DS2 Scholar of the First Sin It has the most variety in locations of all From games, and just gets better as it goes on. The DLC areas are some of the best in the series. DS1 goes downhill after Anor Londo. DS3 feels quite samey throughout A lot more interacting with the environment - The windmill blades, using souls of enemies to activate doors in Dranleic Castle, shattering the ice at Eleum Loyce, restarting the machinery in Brume Tower, etc. The DLC areas almost feel like Zelda dungeons in some respects The best story. You actualy meet Vendrick, Nashandra and Aldia, plus visit the past in memories to really help connect with the world It looks the best. Stick the King's armour set and Zweihander on in DS2, and Drang armour and Zweihander in DS3, and compare. DS2 is so much more detailed and the material is actually textured. DS3 armour looks like it's made of rubber and the sword just has a blotchy metallic texture on it Feels like it has more secrets and hidden stuff than the other games Powerstancing! DS3 has some token dual wielding weapons but it's nowhere near as good I like the Adaptability stat. It gives you a way to invest stat points in a no shield/agility build. Makes sense to speed up Estus as well as if you get hit, you're likely to take more damage with lighter armour. Feels like more of an investment in the playstyle Shrine of Amana - one of my favourite From areas. The Milfs sing to keep the fish things docile so they won't attack. But carry a torch, which you'll want to so you can see your footing and not fall into the deep water, and they'll aggro. It just feels so dynamic with the environment, enemies and NPCs interacting in such a cool way Plenty more besides but I think I've made a case for it

Actually, I can:
I think it's because it's the most "fun" for me. The fact it's easier to upgrade a whole shit ton of weapons to max, the ease with which you come by materials, the open nature of the game from the very start, the massive variety of locales (even if it means there is more shite ones too), the fact you can constantly reroll your stats and fuck about with asthetics to re-do bosses, the fact NG+ has loads more stuff in it than the other games, the engine being so crisp and resulting in characters that don't have melting wax faces. The latter part of the game being so bloody cool with the memories, the look of the Dragon Eerie / Shrine, the frankly outstanding DLC areas.
Probably a lot more that I can't recall right now.
Oh. Powerstancing.
