I have that exact one for my work MacBook Air. It works but there's occasional lag with the wireless keyboard - don't know if it's the dongle or that it's a work laptop causing it. It's annoying. Thank you! Okay that does sound very annoying tbh. My only thought is that if she ever uses a keyboard & mouse itβll be with a monitor and the dongle wonβt be needed then anyway. Maybe Iβll take a punt on it. Do you use the HDMI on it?

The discontinued 12" MacBook (without the "Air") only had 1 port. Never heard of that brand before. You could also just buy two dongles, from Apple or from others, one USB-C to HDMI and one USB-C to USB-A. Thanks, two dongles isnβt a bad idea but just having 1 seems a bit easier Good to know this one will have 2 ports as well, ty

My well known brand usb hub, can't remember the name but they're wedge shadowed, had the flimsiest HDMI port.
Funnily enough I finally got a new monitor that accepts USBC now that i have an HDMI port on my laptop.

That's the reason why I go for the stuff they sell at Apple Stores. They usually just work. The Belkin HDMI adapter just works (and if it wouldn't I'd walk into an Apple Store and they sort it out), the cheap Chinese adapter we bought before at work just wouldn't display anything, no matter which Mac or which target (projector, TV, doesn't matter).

Iβll trot down the Apple store tomorrow and trade in for a 16β. I think Iβm settled on the middle one, Pro with 1TB, after watching all the videos on YouTube, seems like the sweet spot. The faster 1TB HDD mitigates the smaller memory slightly for an extra Β£200 and the extra storage will be handy. Had to talk myself down from the big dick Max, the chip itself is a cheap enough upgrade to just say fuck it, but the Clever Girls at Apple force Β£400 of memory with that

Those weren't cheap knock offs, we had the satechi ones and they generally suck dokey balls. I did get a Belkin replacement and that one has been better. It's now obsolete as well due to me having a new monitor and a laptop that actually let me connect things to it. Wild.

Connecting a monitor without an adapter? What sorcery is this?

Managed to snag an official iPhone 12 case for Β£9 off Amazon. Looks like they price matched Currys... begs the question why a silicon case is Β£40-50 anyway. Hopefully it isn't shit.

Just set up the new 16", so nice not having that touch bar and real T shaped directional buttons and the screen is just lovely. I dug out my old iPhone X from a drawer and chucked that in for another Β£150 off too

While watching Midnight Special in a dark room, the MBP screen created a really weird lava lamp like effect during a night scene in the woods.
It was all really dark gray tones, and the black areas went completely black. Looked weird as hell for ten seconds.
Other than that it's the most marvelous screen I've seen.

That's probably the mini LED and zone dimming at work.

Treated myself to a Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Monitor: U2720Q. Just set it up now. It's really quite lovely. Huge difference from using the 13" MBP screen. Going to get an external speaker of some kind. Marshall Emberton looks very good.
Edit: Extra bonus of not having to use the touch bar as using an external keyboard. Also power delivery over USB-C.
Edit: Extra extra bonus of being abler to connect my HP Spectre to it. Hell, I might even give this screen a go with the Switch.

Does anyone know if you can buy Office Home & Student 2021 (for Mac) from the US store instead of its UK counterpart? Said product is $99.99 at the former and Β£119.99 at the latter, which is quite a hefty difference.

Why don't you just try it? If it keeps automatically redirecting you, you probably need a VPN.

They'll also put import duty on it. Of you still wish to go ahead use a remail service like this www.nybox.com

Thanks for the responses, everyone - guess I'll save myself a bunch of dicking around and buy from the UK store.

One thing I'm appreciating more and more with the latest MBP is the speakers. They sound great, and it's not like the previous speakers were bad.

Is there a way to change the functionality of the scroll wheel click on a third party mouse?

It would probably have been quicker to Google than to ask on here but as you asked the Logitech software lets me change it but I don't think you can do it in the OS.

I'm just curious as to what the sop is for using a third party mouse on mac. It seems that at the moment it's installing an application that doesn't do what I want it to.
But then I found that since the only thing I wanted was to trigger launchpad from the scrollwheel click I could do that in System Settings for launchpad. So that garish gamer application that was supposed to let me do all sorts of things was redundant.

You either use the usually shit software provided by the manufacturer, or you use third-party tools like USB Overdrive or BetterTouchTool.

Annoyingly the software that I could download for the mouse only worked if I connected the mouse via cable. MAybe I should try it with the little USB dongle as well.
It's a shame to let all the billion buttons go unused. (But the LED lights sure look pretty)

Apple Event next Tuesday, called "Peek Performance" (yes, peek, not a typo). Currently rumoured is - new low-end MacBook Pro (the old, 5Β½ year old design without notch) with slightly faster CPU
- new low-end iPhone with the 7Β½ year old design of the iPhone 6
- new iPad Air with a slightly faster chip
Uh⦠boring? A press release would suffice.

I could do with some new airpods pro. Had to send mine in for repairs twice. Known defect though so free of charge.

I had that as well, mine were/are one of the first batch. Took it to the shop and they handed me a brand new pair of headphones, the problem went away
