Event tonight. Looking forward to seeing if this Mac Studio is a thing. Not after anything at the moment. Still very happy with 13" M1 MBP.

I'd love it if there's any truth to the AR glasses rumours that are flying around. Would really enjoy seeing some new tech and also how it would hopefully torpedo facebook even harder.

It’s like that self driving car, been rumoured for years, but I just can’t see it happening.

So Mac Studio looks like a Mac Pro for people who don't need the expandability. And the Studio Display looks great, finally a proper 5K display again.
They are doing a lot of things right with the Mac lately.

400 extra for the monitor to be height-adjustable, FFS Apple. I mean the monitors are nice but for half the price I could get a bigger ultra wide monitor so can't see me getting one.

I like to think of it as £400 off if you don’t need adjustable height, bargain

I like to think of it as £400 off if you don’t need adjustable height, bargain The rumours said $2000 for the monitor, so it's actually a good way to look at it. I wonder if that nano texture is worth it, or if it has any downsides. I have an LG UltraFine 5K display, I believe that this display has been discontinued? Because if so, AFAICT this would make the new Studio Display the only 5K display with a 16:9 aspect ratio on the market. All other so-called 5K display have a much lower pixel density (I'm so used to Retina resolution that alone would be a no-go) and only half the pixel count (5120 x 1440 vs. 5120 x 2880). Add an excellent camera, presumably good mics and speakers, high build quality, 96W fast-charging, a USB-C hub and the ability to daisy-chain them, and the price is not that absurd actually, compared to the LG 5K display that cost $1300.

Also, the 27-inch iMac is no more. While I like the iMac a lot, I think it's a flawed concept because you need to replace a great display that's still working perfectly fine, just because the rest of the hardware shows its age.
A Mac mini plus a Studio display is still more expensive than the old entry level 27" iMac ($2300, plus peripherals, vs. $1800), but increasing the smaller iMac's display from 21.5" to 24" softens the blow a bit.

Also also, the nano-texture itself doesn't cost $300 but $280, because the $300 upgrade includes the $20 polishing cloth. What a bargain!

Apple’s trade in valuations are fairly generous which helps also

Didn't notice the colour combination of sweater and watch band until someone on Reddit pointed it out:

Saw the new Studio Display in a store this week, veeery sexy… I always think what a shame it would be if something happened to my UltraFine 5K monitor.

That reminds me of going to shops in the 90s and seeing Amiga demos running on the monitors; just pictures of flowers and beaches and things, but they looked amazing.

Nice. I'm getting a brand new Mac on Friday for work. I'm hoping it's an M1.

I had the first revision of the original model. Same exact body and pentile LCD screen, but with I think 20GB instead if 5GB.
I loved that thing.

The one with the 4 buttons in a row and red leds was the best one. Loved it, took a bank loan when I started uni and bought that and a PowerBook G4

I keep buying refurbished 64gb 4th generation iPod Touch repeatedly on eBay because I've yet to find anything that does the job better for my needs, hardware and software wise. 4th gen couldn't be updated to the abomination of an OS redesign that Johnny Ive did, so it suited me just fine. Twice in the last few years I've dropped and broken one and been able to swap it out for ones I've had spare in a drawer. If there was a 256gb version of that with a less fragile screen and a battery that wasn't designed to decay, I'd be overjoyed.
Closest I've ever come to replacing it entirely was when I bought a small Android tablet with expandable capacity, but it barely fits in my pocket and the best music player app I could find for Android still doesn't quite live up to the same comfortable functionality of 4th gen iPod OS. Decided to stick with iPod for travel use, hooked the Android one up to some speakers in the warehouse at work like a little digital jukebox.

I saw iMacs in the flesh last week and despite having thought they looked shit online I really quite like them. Hope bigger more flexible versions come out.

Yay, finally Weather on iPad And you can see your local Wi-Fi password! Seriously though, there do seem to be quite a few quality of life improvements to iOS. I’ll wait to see exactly how iPadOS behaves though before I praise anything there. It’s always been a bit of a mess. All we need now is a calculator app. Perhaps next year…

The 256GB 13" MBP is £100 more than the 256GB Air. The 512GB 13"MBP is the same price as the 512GB Air. This makes no sense. The 512GB Air appears to be £100 more than it logically should be.

The new Air looks lovely.
The 13" MBP doesn't seem to be inline with any of the other new models; I'm not sure what the need to release it was. I'd be really tempted by the new Air, but I do really want a card reader baked in.
As an iPad Pro 2020 owner, I'm rather frustrated that new iPad OS features such as Stage Manager appear to be M1 only. Not sure if my next move is to save for a 14" MBP next year, or switch to an M1 (or M2 in Sept) iPad Pro using the Sky Mobile Swap thing that I'm currently on. My son is about 6-12 months away from needing some hardware of his own for school stuff (old ipad not cutting it anymore) so I'll be grabbing new hardware soonish either way.

Im looking at updating my 12.9 iPad pro second gen. It still does the job but... the bezels...
The annoying thing is that its now the same price as an M1 MBA and its really hard to square that circle even though I dont really want a laptop.
