If you're looking to save a bit of money maybe cost up an M2 MBP? Might be able to pick one up a fair bit cheaper than an M3 and they're ridiculously fast. I got mine a year ago and have really enjoyed using it for Garageband (creating short narration with layered sounds, and also because I fancy getting into podcasting at some point).
A year on, and I'm yet to hear it make a noise.
16" MBP M2, 1TB, 32GB.
(edit: I came to this from a 2013 15" i7 which lasted me ten years. Replaced because of the heat and noise it was making, more than anything else. The difference is staggering!)

Good suggestions. I looked into it, but couldn't find an MBP with the specs I wanted on Apple refurbished or new. It's interesting that we had the same 2013 machine.
Unfortunately I live an incredibly dusty house, so I wonder if the Pro will just get clagged quickly. Also the 14" is too small for me and I think the 16" might be too big for walking around with.

The 16 is the same size as the 15 i7 from 2013. The footprint is identical.

Still a chunky piece though. It’s a pain in the arse trying to use it on the train

That's why I loved the 12" Macbook so much! I'd probably upgrade if they made one like that or the old 11 inch Air again.

I've also used a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" and that feels like carrying an anvil around compared to this 2013 one. Probably the disc drive that made it so much bigger.

4.5 lbs vs 4.7 lbs for the new one. Not exactly light, but if you're happy with what you've got then you'll be happy with 16". Same size, far less bezel.

I do a lot of reaching around (ooer) things to get my laptop. Reaching around behind me to get it off a table, reaching around things on a side table to pick it up, leaning across a chair to pick it up with my non-dominant hand. The size is good info as I can imagine the weight of the lighter 15" too.

How shit is the Apple Pencil? If you don’t keep it charged constantly it just dies apparently. Took it out earlier and stuck it to the iPad to charge to do something tonight and ours has passed away, we can’t have used the thing more than a handful of times.
We’ve got similar things for our Windows laptops that don’t need power and work just as well. Won’t be making the mistake of buying another Apple one.

That’s pretty shit. Mine goes many months without use, but always comes back to life with a fresh charge. Think it’s the second gen one. Bought it in 2019.

Ours is 2nd gen too. I'd remember to top it up more often if you want to keep using it.

It has genuinely gone over a year at a time between uses. But now I’m paranoid about it. So…. Thanks?!

Well top tip if it happens, stick it on a radiator for a bit. Ours is now charging again after a bit of a warming up. Lucky it’s such a cold April I guess.
