It has genuinely gone over a year at a time between uses. But now I’m paranoid about it. So…. Thanks?!

Well top tip if it happens, stick it on a radiator for a bit. Ours is now charging again after a bit of a warming up. Lucky it’s such a cold April I guess.

They don't seem to have changed iPad OS too much, so all these upgrades... meh.

I do want that new Pencil. Just for the 'Find My' alone. Wonder if it will work with the Air?
Confirmed: it does

That's the optimistic view I guess (I'm just talking myself out of upgrading my 2019 Pro as I picked up an M2 MBP last year.)

Would you look at 11 or 13 inch? I loved my iPad Pro 12.9, but it really was a bit too heavy in the end. Next time I think I'll go 11" Air to pair with the MBP.

I think the smaller of the two Airs, I need to differentiate a bit from my laptop so the primary use case would be portability - my Macbook Air is just a bit too big to take with me everywhere.

Fuck it, let's put two OLEDs on top of another! Crazy bastards.
Ultra Retina XDR is a terrible name though. How about Xquisite Sandwich Pixels

11” Air plus Pen Pro plus keyboard plus Apple Care comes in at north of £1,100…
Can’t see an option to finance it but perhaps that’s because I’m currently out of the UK.
I will sleep on it. I also want to replace my phone this year so… ouch.

From experience, the combination of hardware keyboard, stylus, and touch is limited by the OS trying to second-guess what input mechanism is in use. It can be pretty frustrating at times.

I dunno, it’s a tough one. My two use cases are: messing about in Procreate; and downloading video to watch while travelling and unable to stream. I can’t do either of those on my laptop. But do they justify dropping a grand?

I guess it’s because they are terrified of (more) piracy but that’s the reason I take my iPad away with me rather than my MacBook. Being able to download tv and movies on IOS streaming apps is a lifesaver.

Can stick it on my Sky mobile account and I wouldn't really notice, given that I've given up buying rum this year it seems to be offset. I just looked at the nano-texture thing - I hadn't realised what an expensive upgrade that is!

Netflix and Disney both work, they both allow 4k HDR and Disney allows atmos too.

Using the Sky data exchange means I’m actually saving a couple of quid as opposed to buying outright. Result.

I’ve had the iPad 11” M4 for around 10 days now, upgraded from a 12.9 2019 model.
Does it do anything the old one didn’t already do? No, not really. But it’s quick as anything.
Is the screen much better? It’s certainly a lovely screen, but so was the 2019 model tbh. It definitely looks fantastic when watching videos, but in day-to-day tasks I’m not sure you’ll immediately notice huge differences compared to other top shelf iPads.
Is it lighter? I decided that the 12.9 was just too big around 6 months into ownership of the last one. As a result it was almost exclusively used in landscape mode. It was a great device, but a terrible tablet. This new 11” M4 can be held in one hand and is much better for it. It’s a pleasure to use. I don’t think I’d ever go back to a bigger size unless I was set on going for a laptop replacement - something I still don’t think is achievable for me personally.
Is the Magic Keyboard any good? The v2 of the Magic Keyboard is an improvement in every way except for balancing. If you’re expecting to be able to have it comfortably on your lap it still doesn’t quite work, but on a desk it’s nice and sturdy. It lays flatter too (I’m sure my last one was not completely flat) and the function row is pretty useful.
No buyers remorse from me.
