It is annoying. Like Star Trek: The Motion Picture comes with the directors cut as an extra, so if I want to watch the DC I either have to rebuy the specific DC version on the store to add to my library or watch it as an iTunes extra on my iPad and have David Lynch think I'm a cunt.

The inability to access extras on stuff you’ve bought is just plain fucking rude.

Whaaa?! I literally re-bought it to get the DC, because it's one of my favourite movies. Fuckers. I mean, it was four quid. But still: fuckers.

I didn't even know there were extras! The LG onboard app is pretty decent otherwise (although also not a massive fan of the new UI).

LG and Sammy apps are fully featured Apple apps. Apple and Google are MORTAL ENEMIES so they remove the store on those TVs (Sony, TCL, Hisense, etc), but they still have libraries.

I do consider the quid or whatever I pay google for drive well spent. Google photos is really good and having it fairly platform agnostic just makes sharing and whatnot a lot easier.
And it means its always backing up unlike my iCloud account which frequently gets burned by my daughter.

How seamless is google photos? Do you need to open the app and upload everything from time to time?

Need to buy a laptop. Trying to decide between 15" M3 Air 16gb 1tb or a 16" M2 Pro, 16gb 512. The latter is the best spec I could find. Don't want to be used, unless its Apple furbished.
I'll be using it for recording podcasts with garageband. My set up at the moment requires an ethernet dongle for a wired connection and an amp.
I tend to wander around when I use my laptop, so I can be in different rooms.
My 2013 Mac sounds like a jet engine, which is problemetic when I record podcasts. The M3 is fanles so will be silent, but its lack of ports is annoying. Recording would use both ports. THe M2 doesn't have the storage, but has a bigger screen which is better for my eyes. Plus more ports. But I'm worried about fan noise. Also my enviroment is very dusty, so I'm worried it'll get more dust than the M3. Any suggestions?

Sorry chaps, should have put more info. Have updated posted.
Reviewer - to record podcasts and general office work, browsing.
Uiruki - It'll be the 15" Air. My 2013 Macbook is a 15" and even this screen feels a bit small, which is why I was considering the 16" M2.
One of my biggest concerns is dust and fan noise. I'm living in the sahara over here (figuratively).

If you’re using a 2013 machine unless it’s one of the super expensive turbo nutter bastard ones then I think the M3 air will be a big sized upgrade. You'll probably throttle a bit on export with the Air but unless your chunking out complex 4K edits it won’t make much difference and in general use it’ll still be extremely fast. If you’re compiling apps or throwing out tens of hours of renders a week I’d probably make the step up to the pro but I think the Air will be more than enough for what you’re doing.
As someone who tolerated the slowness and keyboard of the 12” MacBook I’m an extremely big fan of the fanless laptop, and the M1 really delivered on what it promised. Even three and a half years later it still feels extremely fast while having massive battery life and the M3 has a big CPU speed boost and what seems like even more efficiency. I’d go for that myself.
Finally in terms of screen space, remember the notch moves the menu bar up and gives you a little extra room, and the speed and slightly higher resolution means you can be a bit more aggressive with scaling - if you can, then give it a try on the real thing and I think you’ll be surprised at how much you can get away with.

I'm 2013 Macbook pro is a 15" with 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD. It's held up remarkably well, though I've had to sellotape around the screen as the rubber gasket has split.
Our podcasts are 1 - 1.5 hours, it's only when we interview people that there are lots and lots of edits.
(I used to do video for YouTube, until I got Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain from the rental place 24 hours early at launch. That got me a strike from Konami for six months.)
The M1 sounds like a great machine; almost too good, which left Apple shooting itself in the foot.
Thanks for giving me something to think about. I'm leaning towards the M3 as I use my laptop like an ipad, carrying it from room to room and sitting in different chairs working. I only use it at my desk when podcasting.

If you're looking to save a bit of money maybe cost up an M2 MBP? Might be able to pick one up a fair bit cheaper than an M3 and they're ridiculously fast. I got mine a year ago and have really enjoyed using it for Garageband (creating short narration with layered sounds, and also because I fancy getting into podcasting at some point).
A year on, and I'm yet to hear it make a noise.
16" MBP M2, 1TB, 32GB.
(edit: I came to this from a 2013 15" i7 which lasted me ten years. Replaced because of the heat and noise it was making, more than anything else. The difference is staggering!)

Good suggestions. I looked into it, but couldn't find an MBP with the specs I wanted on Apple refurbished or new. It's interesting that we had the same 2013 machine.
Unfortunately I live an incredibly dusty house, so I wonder if the Pro will just get clagged quickly. Also the 14" is too small for me and I think the 16" might be too big for walking around with.

The 16 is the same size as the 15 i7 from 2013. The footprint is identical.

Still a chunky piece though. It’s a pain in the arse trying to use it on the train

That's why I loved the 12" Macbook so much! I'd probably upgrade if they made one like that or the old 11 inch Air again.

I've also used a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" and that feels like carrying an anvil around compared to this 2013 one. Probably the disc drive that made it so much bigger.

4.5 lbs vs 4.7 lbs for the new one. Not exactly light, but if you're happy with what you've got then you'll be happy with 16". Same size, far less bezel.

I do a lot of reaching around (ooer) things to get my laptop. Reaching around behind me to get it off a table, reaching around things on a side table to pick it up, leaning across a chair to pick it up with my non-dominant hand. The size is good info as I can imagine the weight of the lighter 15" too.

How shit is the Apple Pencil? If you don’t keep it charged constantly it just dies apparently. Took it out earlier and stuck it to the iPad to charge to do something tonight and ours has passed away, we can’t have used the thing more than a handful of times.
We’ve got similar things for our Windows laptops that don’t need power and work just as well. Won’t be making the mistake of buying another Apple one.

That’s pretty shit. Mine goes many months without use, but always comes back to life with a fresh charge. Think it’s the second gen one. Bought it in 2019.

Ours is 2nd gen too. I'd remember to top it up more often if you want to keep using it.
