I put in the series code of my office iMac to see what I’d get in a cheeky trade in.
It said ‘time to recycle your iMac!’

Harsh. I didn't even bother asking them what my 8 year old, no label Windows laptop would get for a trade in. "That'll be an extra £400, please"

Mac rumours suggesting we might see the next few bits and bobs of their game initiative too. Seems like generalised rumours rather than anything concrete but here they are anyway: “- M3 chips will likely have hardware-accelerated ray tracing like the A17 Pro chip. - Apple hinted at more AAA games coming to the Mac in a recent interview. - Resident Evil Village launches on the iPhone 15 Pro on same day as the Apple event next week — a coincidence or some kind of hint? We're still waiting on Resident Evil 4 for the Mac. - macOS Sonoma features a new Game Mode. - At WWDC 2023 in June, Apple released a toolkit that makes it easier for game developers to port Windows games to the Mac. - A source informed us that Apple is holding its event at the unusual time of 5 p.m. Pacific Time because it will fall during business hours in Japan, and claimed that the event will include a major tie-in with a Japanese game developer, but we have not independently confirmed the accuracy of this information” Why they don't put that chip into an Apple TV and position it as a console is beyond me. Apple has never shown they're serious about gaming. Perhaps that's about to change. But I doubt it.

When you are away from the house game on your phone and when get home, carry on from where you left off on the tv or Mac. They got an ecosystem there already. And it probably be something I’ll be interested in. What they have shown of Mirage and Resi looks impressive. Sometimes look at my ps5 and wished it was a bit smaller! If they can get console gaming in an Apple TV box I’d be game, and I suspect given the reach apple has, everyone would want their games on it too,

It feels like buying Backbone and bundling it with Apple Arcade would be a complete tap in.
Play on your phone, seamlessly move to Apple TV, then your Mac…

The new Apple TV Ads with the double thumb and finger click to activate is both intriguing and concerning.
What next… do the Irish jig to create a calendar entry?

‘Concerning’ is an odd take on something so unimportant.

Concerning.

Forgive me for shitting all over your thread with newb questions but when apple typically release a new processor line up do the previous gen laptops all go down in price?
That's what I expect to happen but I don't know how apple treat this stuff.

They kind of just stop selling the old ones, but I think you’ll be able to find discounted last gen machines at other sellers like John Lewis

And second hand might see an uptick too, although you need to be able to trust them.

Looking forward to seeing what they release and the usual tech channels putting the Mac’s through their paces.
Very interesting for me as I’m about to start throwing 6K open gate BRAW footage into Resolve on my M1 and I’ve got a feeling it may struggle.

Wait until the next event on Tuesday before making a decision. I have waited 😊 Also the 15 inch refurb is back in stock and I'm still hesitating. This means I don't need it I guess 🙈 What a cunt. I'm going to see it in person. That will help decide. It would be a real help if my surface pro just blew up 🙈

For anyone looking for a new MBP, this upgrade could mean you'll find some real bargains on the M2 Pro 32GB which, frankly, is more than any hobbyist user needs.

I will now regail you all of my newb tale of setting up my Mini Mac.
First impressions: Wow it’s heavier than I thought but very sleek. Turn on, nice usual mac tone.
First problem, tv I plugged it into is going mental and won't display an image, I can briefly see a country selection screen before it goes black again. Unplug hdmi plug into a different port, problem solved after 5 mins of wondering what the fuck was going on.
Second problem, how in fucks name do I select continue? I'm only using a keyboard ad my mouse is Bluetooth. Enter doesn't seem to work. Google, apparently space bar?! Space bar! Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?!
Anyway looks pretty but all I did was start it up watch Manchester United get bum fucked and updated the software. I'm not impressed with it's ease of use.

Ha, the space bar has been used for "Continue"-type actions for decades – at least as far back as the 8-bit days.

Heh. Yeah space for primary actions has been a thing for a while. YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT IT DOES ON YOUTUBE. ;-)

If there’s only one button/action on a screen (eg no other options can be selected) then:
A) The screen is redundant and/or B) Pressing *any* key at all should move the user forward
If Apple desperately wants the user to use the space bar then the message should tell the user explicitly to press that.
