It would be nice if it’s an iPad Pro. The battery on my big boy is on its last legs

Might finally replace my work MBP. It's still an Intel machine, and since summer I've pretty much exclusively worked with XCode/SwiftUI. The fans are on full blast almost the entire time and my 20 years younger, hip and jacked colleagues work in blissful silence on their M2 Max machines. Bastards.

Rumoured to be new iMacs. I really hope there's a M3 Mac-Mini in the lineup.

Mac rumours suggesting we might see the next few bits and bobs of their game initiative too. Seems like generalised rumours rather than anything concrete but here they are anyway:
“- M3 chips will likely have hardware-accelerated ray tracing like the A17 Pro chip. - Apple hinted at more AAA games coming to the Mac in a recent interview. - Resident Evil Village launches on the iPhone 15 Pro on same day as the Apple event next week — a coincidence or some kind of hint? We're still waiting on Resident Evil 4 for the Mac. - macOS Sonoma features a new Game Mode. - At WWDC 2023 in June, Apple released a toolkit that makes it easier for game developers to port Windows games to the Mac. - A source informed us that Apple is holding its event at the unusual time of 5 p.m. Pacific Time because it will fall during business hours in Japan, and claimed that the event will include a major tie-in with a Japanese game developer, but we have not independently confirmed the accuracy of this information”

I think Apples ecosystem play is slowly pulling me in. I have never had the urge to get a mac but since I now have apple one, an iphone, an ipad I'm drawn to the fucking things.
I don't need one though, my surface pro is perfectly fine for computer needs...but shiny new toy keeps calling. HALP!

Stay strong you don’t need one!
Style over substance vs too costly mostly unless you use graphic design apps or like stroking your ginseng oiled goatee…

If you need a new computer then a MacBook Air is almost the default recommendation at this point, if you can take the changes you’ll need to make to get used to macOS. On the other hand, if your current machine’s suiting your needs then there’s no need to get one now because they’ll just get better next year and then the next year.
I normally replace my laptop every three years but as we rumble towards three years of my M1 Air it hasn’t missed a step, the battery life is still ridiculously good and I honestly can’t think of anything I would upgrade for outside of releasing one in the old 12” MacBook form factor.
Maybe wait another year, see what is happening then.

MacBook Airs are tremendous bits of kit. I might be interested in a mini though too.

Yeah I'm thinking mini as it's the cheapest way onto a Mac.
Even though the Air looks godly, I can't justify more than £1k for something I don't really need.

But then I realised a Lenovo laptop in a January sale was exactly what I needed at sub £500 and it's been doing me proud for 3+ yrs... (plan to get 5+ yrs out of it).
But then I don't play anything other than retro games or ageing pc games (lucasarts adventure games etc.) on it so high end graphic performance is not a requirement I had.

MacBook Airs are tremendous bits of kit. I might be interested in a mini though too. I was looking at an M2 Mini for my next desktop, but by the time I specced it up to where I wanted it, it was prohibitively expensive - like, £600 more than what I bought in the end, for a lesser spec. I may still buy one if I can find a deal later, though. I absolutely love my Air, though. It wasn't cheap, but it's been great value already.

I put in the series code of my office iMac to see what I’d get in a cheeky trade in.
It said ‘time to recycle your iMac!’

Harsh. I didn't even bother asking them what my 8 year old, no label Windows laptop would get for a trade in. "That'll be an extra £400, please"

Apple has never shown they're serious about gaming. Perhaps that's about to change. But I doubt it.

Apple has never shown they're serious about gaming. Perhaps that's about to change. But I doubt it. Honestly, I think that will happen. Makes too much sense. When you are away from the house game on your phone and when get home, carry on from where you left off on the tv or Mac. They got an ecosystem there already. And it probably be something I’ll be interested in. What they have shown of Mirage and Resi looks impressive. Sometimes look at my ps5 and wished it was a bit smaller! If they can get console gaming in an Apple TV box I’d be game, and I suspect given the reach apple has, everyone would want their games on it too,

It feels like buying Backbone and bundling it with Apple Arcade would be a complete tap in.
Play on your phone, seamlessly move to Apple TV, then your Mac…

The new Apple TV Ads with the double thumb and finger click to activate is both intriguing and concerning.
What next… do the Irish jig to create a calendar entry?
