To be honest it's seven years old but it's still the newest mac I work on (barring my M2 I use at work). Between work and home I maintain about a dozen macs double that age*, still going strong. If I had a grand, yeah, I would get the Air, but I don't. I may rue the day, hell I probably will, but if it dies I can recoup some of the cost flogging it for spares and then I may be in a stronger position to get an Air. We'll see. It's hardly the first stupid decision I will have ever made.
*Not quite but you get the idea

Called my Apple retailer and they said it's too old now, and put me on to the guy I spoke to this morning. Long story short is I can't justify a grand for a new macbook just to do my typey typing on. I'd feel like a fukcing tech lush. The other options were second hand market or to stick to the devil I know, and get him to fix it anyway as - it's not cheap but it's still the cheapest option - I kind of have an emotional attachment to the little fucker. So that's what I have done. He's ordering a replacement screen and he'll get it back working for me. He warned me the keyboard might fuck up next - as apparently it does with these models - but I just said that I'll take that risk. Stupid? Probably, but it feels the right move so hey ho. See you back in here in a couple of months moaning about the keyboard. What was the cost of the repair vs picking up a used 2016 from ebay?

BinkyJust checked. Repair is cheaper. Thing is. Unless I buy new then I don’t know what I’m buying and there’s no guarantee anyway. He has ordered the screen so looks like Monday.

These nature video backgrounds that slowly stop after logging in are probably my favourite new feature of macOS Sonoma.

I would throw my mini 6 out in an instant if they'd release a mini 7 with 120Hz display and Face ID.

Just got another 3 month Apple TV trial with VeryMe Rewards if you're a Vodafone user. Go into the app and redeem accordingly.

But put a reminder to cancel it before those 3 months end.

I think you can redeem then cancel straight away in fact. My free trial ended yesterday, at midnight I thought. Nope! Right in the middle of an episode! I was up and running again in seconds with the above though.

Watch out, a lot of Apple free trials will end instantly if you cancel.

What's the cheapest way of trying out a mac? Second hand eBay?

Anyone upgraded to Sonoma yet?
I'm curious too see if they release something new later this month. Eyeing uo a M2 Mac Mini until the M3 studio comes out. If they release a M3 Mac Mini (which I doubt) then that would be great.

I upgraded last week on my M1 MacBook Pro. The only thing I’ve noticed are the screensavers , which are really gorgeous. I’m going to have more of a delve at the weekend. Sorry, not much help

Yeah I'm on Sonoma with my M2 MBP and it's stable. Not sure I'm noticing too much different aside from the screensaver thing. That said, work has been so busy that I've had little time to play about with my personal Mac.
One thing I really dislike about the new OS (since before this one) is the settings app being locked to an iPhone size layout. It's mad!

I'm also using Sonoma (M2 Air) and it's been perfectly fine, although I also haven't noticed any real differences.
My screensaver / lock screen picture scrolls slowly now. That's about it.

Upgraded both my Macs on day 1, mainly because the colours are nicer Seriously though there are lots of nice upgrades and tweaks, worth doing imo.

Main thing for me is my airpod pros now flawlessly switch between devices. It was supposed to be able to do this on the previous version, but now it actually works.
