I use mine for everything. It’s my main device for the internet, reading, audio and I watch loads of stuff on it.
I can also trade it in for shot half its original price every two years.
I always buy outright and am on an sim only at £7 a month for 10 gig as it’s miles cheaper than being on a phone contract.
I’ve used androids and they’ve never been right for me as I end up just fucking around with the OS and settings instead of just using it.

Is it? How does it pinch better? I stand corrected, sort of. The same basic functionality is there in the standard accessibility features. But it’s a bit of a faff. I think the major diffferences are that you don’t need to activate the accessibility in the new one, just raise your wrist and it’s active, and the accuracy of just double-pinching to activate the primary action of any current active app. So it’s generally faster and more dynamic. The UI has been cleaned up so it looks more premium and intentional. Just generally better QoL packaging. And they’ve locked that away behind the new purchases, because they needed something to sell. The new chips probably do help but it obviously could have just been rolled out with WatchOS 10 to all compatible devices.

Yeah but why do I need it to be on when it’s in my pocket on on my desk. I can tap the screen to wake it up rather than waste the tiny amount of power. If the display senses something is blocking it, it shuts off. So it's not on in your pocket or when it's on your desk screen side down. "I can tap the screen" is basically 2023's "I can just go to work on a horse" 😉 Off topic but my workplace last week started pushing people back to the office (as hybrid policy was being treated like a remote policy). Obviously everyone complains but I’m thinking that if you could go in via horseback, attendance would shoot up. On topic - I moved back to Apple from Samsung years ago and really missed the always on screen.

Got my new 15 yesterday. Very happy with it, and it certainly feels like a decent upgrade on my XR.
The screen is much brighter and the whole experience is that bit snappier and faster. It’s probably negligible and a matter of fractions of a second in reality but it is noticeable how switching between apps and tabs in Safari is more instant.
The Blue 15 is very, very pale. The back looks more white, in fact. I’m happy with that, and in all honesty I’ll keep it in a case for most of its life so I won’t think about it after a few days. The camera bump is more blue, and as that’s the bit that is actually visible from the back, it works well. I made a good choice.
The camera is the biggest improvement. The 48MP upgrade is huge. I’m not a big photographer, but I never really rated the pictures my XR took that highly, and it was poor in low light. But the 15 is really good - you can zoom in on a shot and see so much more detail.
Finally, the dynamic island… it’s not exactly a game changer bit I like having a dedicated bit of the Home Screen that will show the music I’m listening to and my AirPod Pros connection and battery.
Overall, I’m very happy with it and since I intend to use it for another 4-5 years (like I did my XR) I think it will serve me well.

I’d wish they’d change the design of the watches in line with the current phones and ipads. The sporty one is a step in the right direction but the regular one still looks like an iphone 1/3 to me, a bit thicc and bulbous if that makes any sense? Just a thin rectangle with rounded corners like a tiny ipad pls.

I’ve loads of USB C port chargers. It’s what the industry is shifting to. See, this is the problem I’m having. I’ve plenty of UsB C leads I use for charging joypads, the Switch and other gadgets. What I’m finding though is that none of these work. Plugging the phone in with any of these leads connected to a usb port does nothing. The only way that will actually charge it is to either a) use my laptop charger b) plug the phone into my laptop with the c to c cable that came with the phone. c) use a wireless charging point - and even then it only works for as long as it wants to. I’ve got a few adapters coming in the post which will hopefully help, but can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong?

That makes it sound like it isn't able to negotiate the amount of power it wants, which makes it sound like the port you're using isn't giving that out. What are the leads plugged into? It doesn't seem to 'need' full on USB PD as it also works with the basic C to A cable that came with my 8bitdo Ultimate, plugged into the front panel of my desktop PC as well as every single USB-C charger I can find, from Switch to Steam Deck to desktop charger.

That’s really odd. I’m just plugging it into regular usb outlets out of wall plugs etc using the same lead I use to charge the PS5 controllers. I’ll try experimenting with a few different leads as surely that’s not right.

As in those USB-A outlets you can get in wall-mounted socket boxes? If so, I'd say that's your problem especially if they're older ones that only put out half an amp and/or can't communicate with the thing you plug in.

uiruki is right, those usually only have +5V and GND connected, but none of the data lines. You might have a cable that doesn’t have the data lines either, which can make things even more confusing. It’s been a while, but I remember some chargers simply refusing to charge my iphone, I’m pretty sure the PS Vita charger did this.

I’ve tried a few different leads and some are better than others. I still think it’s backward when I literally have only two devices that can charge the phone with the lead provided - my laptop and the PS5. But that being said I’ve been invested in Apple for a while and the home is built around lightning cables, so that’s just the way things have turned out.

Apple chargers are 2.2a I think, that wall outlet is 1.5 or less I bet. Get IF certified USB cables and a charging station thing that supplies > 2a (they all do).

USB-C is bit of a mess, with what a particular cable supports. I thought they were standardising on some scheme to help make it easier to understand.

I bought one of these guys (not the exact product, mine is double usb-c) for the bedside socket / table and love it. Seems to work fine with Apple products including MacBook and iPhone 12X Max. USB C Socket | 20W PD USB C & 18W QC 4.0 USB A | Super Fast Charging | VELTZ Pro | Double Plug Wall Socket 13A 2 Gang | White amzn.eu/d/4b7cZ7f

How quick did all y’all get your 15 pro after ordering? Apple Store says delivering by 26th Oct if I order today but they’re usually much quicker

Balls. My 2015 MacBook Pro has suddenly decided to turn the screen black when I fully open the lid. Anyone have any experience of this? Anything under about 60 degrees and the screen is on, but more than that, black. No knocks or anything and worked this morning.
I’m presuming something inside is fucked. I’ve done PRAM resets etc.

Sounds like a loose connector. There’s probably an ifixit guide to open it up and check the screen cables.

My work has a company just opposite us for repairing Macs. I’ll maybe take it in there first. Just a pain as it’s my writing laptop.

Sounds a bit like the flexgate issue, but that’s only on 2016-2017 mbp’s apparently.

Ha, he basically said it's not worth fixing. By the time I spend on it, I'm better putting that money to a new mac.
Bugger.

I had that with my old MBP. Graphics chip died and it was swapped out under a consumer satisfaction program. Turns out the swap was just literally for a new board, not a *fixed* one so it happened again in 18 months time by which time the program expired.
600 quid for a logic board for a laptop that was by then worth 500 quid. I did briefly consider a coffee/keyboard interface scenario for the insurance but couldnt be arsed in the end.

I'd check with apple to see if they have a replacement program or something.

Called my Apple retailer and they said it's too old now, and put me on to the guy I spoke to this morning.
Long story short is I can't justify a grand for a new macbook just to do my typey typing on. I'd feel like a fukcing tech lush. The other options were second hand market or to stick to the devil I know, and get him to fix it anyway as - it's not cheap but it's still the cheapest option - I kind of have an emotional attachment to the little fucker.
So that's what I have done. He's ordering a replacement screen and he'll get it back working for me. He warned me the keyboard might fuck up next - as apparently it does with these models - but I just said that I'll take that risk.
Stupid? Probably, but it feels the right move so hey ho.
See you back in here in a couple of months moaning about the keyboard.

I would honestly have looked at a macbook air. Its seven years old now, hes right, something else will shit itself before you get full value out of the repair.
