Originally, I never used the same name twice for anything, just randomly plucked words out of the air for account names. When World of Warcraft hit the UK in early 2005 I sat at the character creation screen for ages trying to figure out what to call my Undead Warlock, which lead to stabbing the keyboard with my hand in desperation, then rearranged the letters to at least make it look like a name. From then on I actually used the same name for a few years (including EG, and variations for PSN and XBL), until I quit WoW in 2012, when I went back to just chucking random words together for names. What can I say? I enjoy the anonymity!  |

And the most common surname beginning with N. For some reason I thought you were Irish though. Absolutely no idea why. |

Got given the nickname by a mates brother, as my name is Dave (it's actually David, but only my relatives call me that), and he knew I spent a lot of time gaming (with his brother). Don't recall there being another Dave or strong reason to differentiate, but it stuck for quite a while.

IRC days, wanted Leatherface, didn't fit, so shortened to L_Face and then shortened again to LFace. Been that since I registered at the old house many years ago.

Surname is Harris. One day at uni we were watching something with David Hasselhoff in and I said if I was Knightrider I’d be harriselhoff. Makes no sense, but unsurprisingly is not taken anywhere so can keep the same name everywhere I go.
First time I used it was for my gamertag on Xbox live on the original Xbox as any “cool” name I could think of was taken.

Many years ago I was delighted to discover there was a fish called the Sarcastic Fringehead and immediately adopted that as a username. Since shortened for convenience, and the short version is never taken.

My first username on t'internet (technically the second, before I realized you didn't need to use your real name everywhere), was The_Gremlin_from_the_Kremlin, some obscure reference from Wacaday/Timmy Mallet (proof, if needed for some reason -
and it inevitably got shortened to Gremmi and has stuck for the past 24 years. Didn't use it on EG because I deleted the old account and then subsequently couldn't reuse the name, despite how much I bugged craigy about it. I think someone else stealth registered it.

It's a word I created when I was a teenager for times when conversation dies. This could be the random moments everyone in a room stops talking, or when someone adds something absurd into a conversation.
My sig everywhere was *insert forum theme* - hammering the final nail into the coffin of conversation.

When I were a lad, new to the internet, I wanted to use Stuz as a nickname (shortened from Stuart, I kid you not), but alas, it was taken, so inevitably, the website suggested Stuz random number. Being a huge Star Trek nerd, I inevitably went with 359, after Wolf 359 from 'Best of Both Worlds.'
