I've not watched Time Bandits, but I do find it pretty dispiriting how much sci-fi gets canned early. I know it's because it's expensive to make, but it's still frustrating when you see how much crap does get commissioned or renewed.
To Zissou's point, I belatedly started watching Constellation and wasn't especially enjoying it after a three episodes, then read it was canned and just gave up. Pointless even giving it more of a chance.
Might have to start actively waiting till a show has been renewed before I start watching. Though if everyone does that, nothing will get renewed.

Silo only needs three seasons to finish the book stories, probably, so hopefully they can see that one out with the second close to release and the third presumably in pre-production.
Foundation is great. They can keep making that for as long as they want, but even then the seasons tell reasonable stories on their own and are worth watching even if it did get canned.

Pointless even giving it more of a chance. Fuck sake, I actually really enjoyed that. But, yes, of course nobody is watching these things. Nobody watches Apple TV. I think what they really need to do is spend some money on licensing some trash. Just a big library dump of *something* other than turgid 'prestige' content. I was looking for something to watch the other day and on their movies tab its basically the same things that have been there since day one. My account seems to have tapped out on free codes and when this one runs out, I'm done. 9.99 a month is punchy for something with little to no regular content drops and a paper thin, one note library.

The cancellation did your decision making a favour, it goes downhill from the set up episodes.. I got to 6 before i gave up and wished i had sooner. Not surprised they canned this one. Has a great and prob v expensive space station set and effects work, also Noomi Rapace, but that's about it.

The first season of Silo covers only about half of the first book. I reckon they could milk it for 6 seasons. Though I will say the stuff they added to pad it was all good...

Not read the books, I enjoyed Silo but thought the 10 episodes in S1 was at least 2 too many. Could have got to that big reveal in 6 tight episodes.

It did drag a bit in places, but then so did the book. Pays off by the end. I reckon they might start blending what they take from each book. We'll know after S2.
Controversial: I enjoy having read the three books, but I didn't enjoy *reading* the three books. Found them a real slog.

Im finding that with The Passage, another book with a failed TV adaptation. I like everything about it but how much of a chore they are to read. Someone will take a dump and it will flashback for three chapters to explain where the toilet was was made.
I think they managed to condense the first quarter of the first book of the trilogy down to one series. Its just absolutely unfilmable, I don't know why they even tried.

Another Apple series with a ridiculous cast and crew (and Spicer!):

Heh, I'd totally forgotten they tried to make an adaptation of The Passage. Pretty forgettable stuff.
I didn't mind the first book, but the second one was a slog and I don't think I even bothered with the third.

Im just over halfway through the second book. The 'plot' finally seems to have started after the slightly baffling trip down memory lane with the guy who likes Thomas The Tank Engine.

I have found that Apple TV + any one other streaming service is more than enough content to get through. If you’re into crime drama and sci fi there’s plenty.
They do need more of the mass market stuff otherwise they’ll never come close to making any money.

My family got a 3 month free trial of Apple TV last year and we all kept checking it occasionally for fun things to watch, and basically watched almost nothing. (A few episodes of Fraggle Rock and one season of Life by Ella, I think) Then the trial ran out.
And rubbish included movies, though they do seem to have a very big catalogue of rentable/buyable movies.
There was a whole bunch of serious looking prestige tv, but it all looked like it'd be a big commitment. Not much that looked like drop-in fun.
Then again, I'm always complaining about iTV and all4 being full of reality tv / love island trash, so maybe I'm just impossible to please.

That's why I haven't started Silo properly yet, because I don't want it to have no ending. I couldn't get enough of the books.

Can't wait to see Academy Award Winner, Common, continue to learn his trade on the job.
