Started Masters of the Air yesterday and watched the first two. Interesting story to try and tell as the nature of bombers being forward/backward/rince/repeat/die doesn't lend itself to any kind of narrative drive forward. It already feels like it's got the momentum of roadkill. Not convinced by the casting either. Despite that it's watchable enough and I'm going to stick with it.

I think that's the pattern of it. Thought there were some impressive scenes in this latest episode. Hopefully we'll see some more from behind enemy lines, and we've still got the Tuskegee Airmen to be introduced.

Some fancy flying from Lt Rosenthal on display in episode 5. Still not a patch on Band of Brothers, and the weekly drip feed of episodes is really starting to grate, but the aerial stuff is impressive

Third episode was definitely a step up. Enjoyed that.

Fifth even better. It's definitely unusual, still feels like there's no narrative push because it's attrition, but man have they created an incredible world. You feel like you're in those bombers and know every little bit of them. Incredible work. Looks like it's ramping up in the next episode, too.

It's visually stunning (though it's part of what I dislike. It's too hollywood compared to BoB) but I don't really care about any of the characters It's made me go back and watch Band of Brothers and I've seen it so many times yet I never get bored of it. MoTA is sort of in the same league as The Pacific. Decent enough but I'll watch it once, maybe twice and never again.

Criminal Record season 1 just finished. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the way it ended, given that the actual murderer was revealed to be someone who had never been mentioned until the last episode. As far as the performances go, everyone in it was absolutely stellar. Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi both deserve awards.

The first episode of Constellation was pretty good. Standard glossy Apple fare (and they have *finally* found a vehicle for a ton of product placement), looks great, is glacially slow, people wander around looking confused all the time.... But the central mystery seems interesting even if it does also feel like one of those shows where weird stuff just happens for the sake of it with no payoff.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt like it was non stop Apple adverts. Even the warning system just used the iOS Alarm sound lol. Quick, show another iPad... Especially make it look like it can run software which clearly wouldn't run on iOS...
I only watched 2 episodes last night but I want to watch the third tonight so it's not all bad. I have a idea of what I think may be going on but the truth is I haven't got a clue.
Something I didn't enjoy though was how the main actress is Swedish(?), speaking Russian but her daughter and husband are painfully English. Found it more distracting than I should've.

I stand to be corrected but didn't Hegarty speak to him briefly in one of the earlier episodes when talking to informants to get info about the kid that was shot in the park?

It was so briefly I forgot he existed.

William Gibson's Neuromancer getting a series apparently. Will be tough to adapt I would think I read Neuromancer through twice, then the rest of the Sprawl stories in record time because I enjoyed them so much back in the day. Really hope they don't go with an exactly faithful to the text adaptation though, seeing as Gibson referenced real life tech companies that were around at the time and I cannot imagine anyone wanting to plug something directly into their grey matter that was made by fucking Hitachi of all people.

Cool seeing the Tuskegee Airmen in E08, with the accompanying P51 dogfights.

Felt so rushed though, four stories being told and none given any time to breathe which is a shame. Would have liked a whole one focusing on them.

Yeah – I forgot to mention that. Weird pacing and that sudden fast-forward to D-Day and then to August 1944.

I guess that CGI budget has been hammered but I can't see HBO fast forwarding through one of the most pivotal moments in the war like that.
Still, disappointment comes from the fact I've come around to this and really enjoy it now.

After getting my days mixed up and being all excited for fallout a night early I ended up starting Sugar. Private dick searching for a missing daughter in LA. It's got that seedy underbelly of corrupt as fuck gangsters and movie moguls vibe and keeps splicing in old movie clips as he narrates. It's actually alright so far after 2 episodes, I like the pacing.
Calling BS on that drinking scene though.

New Dark Matter, not the same as the old Dark Matter.

The Apple Dark Matter looks like it could be good but the other Dark Matter really needs to get finished, it was a fun show and SyFy renewed the wrong show (Killjoys finished incredibly badly).

One episode left of Big Door Prize S2 and it’s found it’s feet this season, really leaned into the gently surreal absurdist side with great characters and performances.
Obviously, Apple have done a Netflix and cancelled it now

Really enjoying Dark Matter. I wasn't expecting the end to episode 2 that we got.
