Friday: Cousins Birthday Beer: 500 calories Indian restaurant food: mixed grill, methi chicken, Chicken Biryani, pork cheek vindaloo, Baingan(aubergine) Masala, mango lassi, Naan. (obviously I didn't eat the full portions of all of those just a portion) Shit load of calories. Saturday, usual food but went to an ice cream parlor with my son so +500 calories Sunday: Mothers day Mother in law, Potato fritters (Indian style) 600 calories Piri Grill:4 chicken wings, 2 lamb chops, 1 lamb burger, 1 large fries, Mogo (Casava) chips, Doner meat, sticky toffee pudding. Shit load of calories. I missed out the mundane breakfasts cause it's not interesting

Calorie counting has it's place, but in the words of my PT we have to become our own scientists and determine what works for us. I've started using macros instead, so am keeping to 260g of carbs a day and ignoring calories. This then ensures I am limiting the amount of carbs I'm eating (including sugar) but am giving myself enough energy for workouts based on my height and weight, and then eating as much protein and greens as possible. www.calculator.net/macro-calculator.html

What other goal would calorie counting be useful for?

Didn't want to make it sound like I was being dismissive of calorie counting, but I am also trying to lose weight, just doing so with macros and conditioning rather than a restrictive diet that will give me limited energy to train.
Again though, this is specific to me and my current goals.

You can use calorie counting for any weight goal. There's no "should / shouldn't" involved, it's individual.
And if you're tracking macros, you're tracking calories. Macros have calories, and knowing how to split your calories means you have to have an established calorie target or you can't ensure you're in a deficit/surplus.

It's kind of why I'm kind of fascinated to see what happens to my weight this week. It was heavy on calories but not much on carbs. Maybe. Oil and meat seems to be the main sources.
As an aside I read an article in the Economist this morning basically confirming that Indians are genetically predisposed to being tubby...

300g is one large poo away from the norm, so the body has done it's job(bie) at keeping things roughly in homeostasis.

I just started Crossfit. I've been having tonnes of aches/pains sitting at my desk for a long time, so thought I would join something that would give me motivation to get fitter and have less pains. Considering I've only started I already feel better in my body and also my head.

I see people doing classes in the morning when I'm doing whatever bullshit weights routine I made up that day. It looks quite good fun and one of the regulars is really fit (not Theresa May) but I hate people telling me what to do so fuck that. Lone wolf gym bro.

My wife can only do classes, and is bored and lost when at the gym otherwise. I go knowing exactly what I'll be doing, and with plenty of options if a piece of equipment I wanted is being used.

I decide what I'm doing when I get there but always now aim to do 10 sets of 10 reps on 5 different things.

I just don't like the riff-raff in gyms. I think crossfit has priced out your typical gym knobhead, who sits on the bench press on his phone, scratching his nuts, and going oii oiii to some woman.

Now you sound like a true crossfitter \o/ - Don't forget to show unwavering support our boys in the military. * Just teasing mate - enjoy it. If you stick with it, you'll get super fit.

I think it depends where you live. I've tried several gyms locally here, and they're all full of dickheads regardless of when you go.

I don't pay any attention to anyone else in a the gym.
ed: I see a few people who clearly don't know what they're doing, but I leave everyone else to their training and just get on with mine.
