Well, I had finally managed to get back on the wagon - gym three times a week, fasting, not eating so much shit - only to end up back in lockdown. The same thing has happened twice over the last year, I just need to make sure that I get straight back to the gym when lockdown's over instead of going on a takeaway frenzy.
It's amazing how much better I felt after the first week back at the gym: more energy, sleeping better, better mood. Need to keep that at the front of my mind.

Started Intermittent Fasting this week on 16/8 ratio. Third time attempting. First heard of this going into lockdown last year and stuck with it for about 2-3 months and lost a stone fairly easily. Then I lapsed last summer and became a chungus again. Tried it once more just after Christmas and it dropped off quick due to not being in right frame of mind.
So I'm back on it again now reinvigorated and hoping to lose some covid chub. Anyone else tried IF?

I used to do it, and may again if calories need to get low as it's a simple method of reducing calories. Right now I just keep within a deficit range and don't cut out any meals as I'm enjoying eating more regularly, especially to fuel morning workouts.

I used IF in the new year as a springboard to:
- stop eating crap for breakfast - stop eating crap at night
It was great, although I missed having a coffee in the morning and after a while I would be a bit lax on what I ate in the 6 hours I was allowed to. Lost about half a stone doing it. Once I had the discipline to stop eating snacks etc (which IF is great for enforcing) then I moved to weighing food and logging calories using LoseIt. So I still skip breakfast but can have a coffee or snacks through the day, within reason. Once I got into the rhythm of it, it was great - lost a total of 2 stone at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week, which is acceptable IMO.
So yeah I would really recommend IF as a way of starting off!
Edit: just to add that when I did IF, I was doing 18/6 as my WFH regime allowed me to do it; but now I’m back in the office more frequently it would be more difficult.

Years ago when I split from the (now ex) wife, I was heaviest I've been and the separation was the kick up the arse I needed and I calorie counted limiting to 1500 a day. I ended up losing 3 stone to be a decent weight but having a couple of relationships since where I settle back and put weight on, followed by being single again then covid and WFH for last 18 months I've started being a tub of lard again. Still not up to my biggest but bad enough to feel fat (for openness I'm 6' and currently 15st 11lb). Bought a couple of kettlebell in different weights to do some basic exercises in my breaks from work. Pretty much done no exercise really in over a year.
I'm a 2 meal guy typically anyway but it's the snacking in-between that's my downfall. I love coffee but need sweetener and coffee mate in it. Can't stand black. So I set my time for scoffing between 10:00-18:00. I can last an hour or two from starting work to having that glorious coffee.

16:8 IF is absolutely one of the most successful weight loss methods I've used. I've been doing it on and off for years, currently on a break for summer holidays but will be right back on it in September to shed some pounds before Christmas approaches. Not only is it an easy way to cut 300+ calories a day by basically skipping breakfast, but there are other benefits to IF outside of calories. And I absolutley do not cut out my morning coffee, no chance

Benefits tend to come from occasional 24 hour style fasts.

Why would you stop drinking coffee? Because I honestly can’t enjoy it without milk & sugar.

I see Peloton have reduced their bike price...It still seems really expensive considering you have to pay the subs on top.
Anyone have one here?

I looked at options for bikes this year. I went for the Rogue Echo bike, as I don't do long distance/time cycles and wanted something that incorporated my upper body, but I'd opt for a BikeErg if I was looking for a general all-rounder.

I went wattbike/zwift. That peloton sub is ridiculously priced.
Not a fan of spin classes either though tbh so didn't give them much thought.

I was just curious. I predominantly run but I am open to do the cycling but all of these costs are stupid, nearly £1000!

I used to 'mostly run' then old age came for my knees, hence more bike shit. Indoor & road bike shit. My missus despairs. Can still run a 10k yet though, just easier on the weekly mileage.

Considering the bike you buy is basically unusable without their service, it’s possibly a gamble buying into it in case the company continues to lose money and goes tits up

Great choice. Great bit of kit, I use mine every day. Got to say since turning the garage into a gym I’m way more committed to getting fit.

Just done my third virtual run around a national park in Southern New Zealand. Had to have the music from the lord of the rings playing as I did
50 minutes / 14 km and I'm in need of a shower. My PAI tracker on my Xiaomi band is pleased with me... It got me into this as I was determined to get over 100. So they work.
Right, shower time... If I can get upstairs that is.

The problem is not losing weight, but then keeping the lower weight. What seems to work best is realizing that your weight gain was the result of many decisions over a long period of time, and that weight loss works the same way. Also, there is no magic trick and manifesting the change in your life that leads to a permamnently lower weight will take a lot of time and effort.
