I'm probably nuts for even trying this but next month I'm giving up booze, meat, and caffeine. Also stopping smoking the occasional cigarette (will still vape though, cutting out nicotine as well would be seriously pushing it).
edit - I forgot. Also no bread, potatoes or rice. No shit carbs basically.
What about crack?

Since when have potatoes and rice been “shit carbs”?

I’m not even getting into it. All carbs are on the naughty step during November (within reason)

Wise move to ignore.
That sounds like a lot of shit to give up at once though. Just ditching the carbs will be a big change to how much better you feel. I'd at least give yourself something to enjoy, I got into expensive coffee to get me through.

The booze is the main thing really. And as Lucas said, there’s always crack

Update. So far so good. I made it 3 days without caffeine but the withdrawals suck balls so I got back on it. Horrible headache, not worth it.
Everything else is going well. I decided I like rice too much so I’ve had small quantities of that. No booze etc.
I was 94.9kg on Monday and I’m 92.4kg today 👍

Told you not to fuck with your coffee. How's your energy levels? Mine went through the roof once I got used to burning fat instead of carbs.

Not much difference but bear in mind I’ve also given up meat so I’m having carbs like lentils and stuff. Just no spuds or bread. It’s not keto, just lower carbs. I’ve also had a cold this week so felt shite from that on top of the caffeine misery

I had a fair bit of luck last year with switching to Oatmeal porridge (Soz! I'm losing my Britishness!) for breakfast and swapping white rice for brown rice. That and cutting out the massive amount of bread and donuts.
Backslid a bit this year though. Bread and Donuts are just too tempting!

I may be about to open Pandora's box but what's wrong with Carbs if you're burning them with Cardio?

Nothing per se but there are simple and complex carbs, simple being not so great and complex being OK.

For what it's worth, if you've got a generally healthy diet / lifestyle there's nothing wrong with simple carbs.
I eat them every day (tons of rice and pasta), but I also exercise.

Yeah, I don't eat brown rice because it tastes like butthole. White rice and potatoes are my staple carbs, with oats, fruit and veg picking up the rest. White rice is fine. The nutrient content is practically identical to brown, but it tastes better, it's easier to digest and doesn't have the anti-nutrients.
But also 60-90 mins lifting weights 5 days a week and 30 mins cardio the other 2 days, so at 325g carbs a day (currently) I gain very little weight.

The difference in fibre content between brown bread/pasta and white is huge. In rice, fuck all difference. If I’m trying to be healthy I’ll stick to brown bread and pasta, but brown rice is barely any better and tastes like arse, so fuck that.

Chatting to a bloke in the gym just now, he was saying he doesn’t focus so much on weight per rep but on total weight moved during the session.
So on that basis, last Saturday I did a murderous quantity of squats which in total (I think?) meant I lifted 14.5 tons??
5 sets / 10 reps @ 90kg = 4500kg 5 sets / 10 reps @ 80kg = 4000kg 10 sets / 20 reps @ 60kg = 6000kg
14,500kg = 14.5 tons.

There's some argument to that, but if you're doing an insane amount of reps then you're not really going to be getting the best effect (unless you're specifically looking for strength endurance).
20 reps is basically cardio, which is fine, if that's what you're after.

Yah. Exercise selection, tempo, rest periods - RPE - are all as, if not more important than just weight lifted.

I did my first post-op run yesterday. Just over two months on the shelf and foot padded and dressed to prevent any goo leaks.
5km in 31 minutes.
Minimal leakage.

I actually prefer the taste of brown rice... but that might be due to eating nothing but boring white rice for the past 10+ years.

I've been mixing brown and white recently. Basically as a small concession towards eating a bit better. One part brown to three parts white and it makes brown a lot more bearable.

I actually prefer the taste of brown rice... but that might be due to eating nothing but boring white rice for the past 10+ years. I really like brown rice, too. I have no input on its nutritional benefits, though. I've lost 5 pounds this week for the second week running after a bit of a shock weigh in in October. I've always been really active (used to be professionally active! 😁) but I have let go a bit with all the distractions of the last 12 months and it's time to take control. Mostly diet related (cutting out crisis, for example) but I've upped my exercise levels too. Feel better already.
